According to http://www.3ireland.ie/broadband/, 3 Broadband offer some of the cheapest packages around by offering mobile broadband packages rather than fixed line / modem setups but how is the service?
Easily the most disgusting shower of liars and incompetents I have ever dealt with. Have no interest in anything other than stealing as much as they can from their miserable customers. How are they allowed to carry on thieving and defrauding their customers, to takeover other ISP’s and expand? Why did they get the rural broadband scheme contract? Why was their performance looked at by the government? How is a complaint made? A friend was recently given the address of the CEO by customer service after her top-up failed to register and she lost 35 euro. “Nothing can be done” is what the liars on the customer service said. Why do people work for them?
Why am I locked into these contracts without any redress? Why should I allow these thieves free access to my bank account? Why are Irish people just rolling over and taking it?
Write letters, complain, be a great big pain in the arse. Get this situation changed.
If I could rate this ISP with negative ‘stars’, I would. Absolutely abysmal service and reliability. It’s 2017 and they still don’t offer unlimited broadband. How f***ed up is that? In an age where everything is becoming more internet-orientated, they aren’t doing themselves a whole lot of favours. I, personally, am a very heavy internet user and play a lot of online video games meaning I frequently find myself short of data each month. I pay for my broadband so I can use it. I shouldn’t have to limit my internet use because they think my data plan is “enough for anybody”. They should not be allowed to provide broadband to the general public. Customer service is no different. Extremely unhelpful. Overpriced with a Stone Aged way of thinking business plan. Avoid these crooks like the plague. Seriously. Any other company would be better for one reason; even if the service is absolute crap, you will more than likely be able to get unlimited data at the very least.
Really bad company, no customer service, responses I received where lie after lie, they charged me for a service they did not provide , my broadband router was unplugged and they still billed me saying I was using it, when it had no power and no signal? Sent them letters that they signed for then they denied receiving them, just a joke stay away from them, crooks cowboys and thieves and they pass the but to their customers and do not take responsibility for their poor service or rather lack of it, crap doesn’t even start to sum up this company and the stress they have caused is unforgivable.
These guys are absolute crooks.
They tried charging me 1000 EUR for over usage in a one month period despite no change in usage habits and are not able to tell me how it was used.
Run a mile from them would be my advice.
Don’t even consider them. The staff will lie to you about your entitlements to make a sale. The head office don’t care how patchy your service is. You will be lucky to get 1 hundredth of what they advertise the network being, and that’s still above what they consider the minimal acceptable level. Their minimal acceptable level is 0.4Mbps, while they advertise it as being nearly 400 times better than that. The staff in their stores will tell you you have 14 days to cool off. That is a lie. You will be stuck in the contract as soon as it’s signed.
Seriously, avoid at all costs.
Disgraceful-ABSOLUTELY AVOID THESE COWBOYS
Took 3 4G Broadband Contract in store was told there was 4G in my area in Kildare.
Got home and realised that it was less than satisfactory.
1.2-4.5mb at best and varies and drops all the time.
Called tech support and usual settings change and told works on mast in area and to wait for few days. Took his word and thought it may improve.
I soon realised speeds were worse and decided to return to store.
I soon realised i had no 14 day cooling off period as informed straight away on the phone to customer support. But was told in store i had 14 days!
I was told i couldn’t return the device and to wait and they would open a case and check speeds and such. I did this went home called tech support and still same and speeds of 2-4 mbps,he said they considered it acceptable even if it was 0.4mbps, i informed him it was not acceptable to me! He said he could do nothing more.
I knew where this was all leading and saw the time that would be wasted and hassle that would ensue.
I called the next day and eventually was told they would not cancel the contract (only 7 days in now), so i said that this was a formal complaint and asked them the resolution they had ,they said they could do no more.
I said i wanted to cancel and was cancelling DD and was contesting any penalty fees. They said they were putting me on to cancellations and that a fee of over €700 would result in my cancellation.
I said to cancel as keeping the product was me accepting the poor service and i considered the product misleading and not fit for purpose.
I had to live chat to support to get an email address for complaints which didnt work and i got a postal address. I registered posted the device and my letter of complaint to head office.
And here i am now, i will go to the small claims court and contest any charges.
Treated badly nobody wants to listen to my complaints with bad signal service. Under no question would my contract be cancelled and i know i would have been strung along with poor or no broadband.
I read all the posts below and i loved
“Three is the devil of the broadband world”
Hi thank you .comrec.ie can not do any thing apparently there are no rules and regulations for broadband providers.they can charge what ever they like for data used outside the data you ordered. In my case 53 euro/gb normal price is 1.6 euro/gb that is 33 times the normal price.say if you buy 10 un for 100 euro and you are short and you use a bit more as I gave you and than I sent you a bill for 3300 euro you still think that this is normal ?The provider does not have to warn you with a text to you phone or by email It is a pity that we fight for one Europe but no one can make proper regulations for one Europe ,only time can get this done .
Coverage is non-existant. Keep away.
This is horrible “unlimited” broadband i went on a movie watching spree on Netflix and i have to pay them 280 euro then they say I shoulda checked how much broadband I had left on the site and I’m like YOU SAID >>UNLIMITED BROADBAND <<. And heck it wasn't even that fast (2 loading screens mid movie and when watching movies you cant use wifi on other devices because it is slow as *****)just dont touch this one (also it blocks porn)
ABSOLUTE DISGRACE. Do not go near this provider. Last night I was charged 75 euro for exceeding my allowance by 1.5 gigs, without any prior notifications. Customer support ? Unqualified rude Indians reading from a text manual. I’ve been with these ******** for 3 years, obeying their crap. Unfortunately I was stupid enough to sign a 18 month contract, so I’m stuck.
There seems to be something fishy going on with 3 Broadband. Got my monthly bill yesterday and, like one of the previous reviewers, on top of my monthly charge I was billed an extra 35 Euro for overspending my 15GB usage. I must add that I didn’t opt to sign up for Three but since 02 were taken over by this crowd I’m currently stuck with them. Anyway, I was totally gob smacked to find out that I had allegedly “overspent” my allowance. And according to the Indian adviser I got on to my “overspending” happened within one week! I haven’t changed my internet habits recently and only use it for occasional research purposes and for staying in touch with friends via social media so how could i have run up such an extra amount! I was told by the “adviser” that I have to keep an eye on my usage from now on by checking it on the Three website. WTF? I believe that I’ve been scammed and feel very frustrated about the lack of accountability for this service provider. And today they sent me a text asking me to rate my “experience” with their customer service!!! Stay away from these people is all I can say. Wish I known about this scam sooner.
On 11th July, 2015, I registered with this gang in their shop in Mullingar Co Westmeath for usage in my home in Kinnegad, Co. Westmeath where it worked fine – better than Vodafone. I took my mobile device to Kilkenny when I went to stay with my mother there and it wouldn’t work at all. On contacting India about why it wasn’t working I was eventually told a mast in the Kilkenny area wasn’t working and they suggested I call them back in a “few days”!!! I am paying for this service!!!!!! Vodafone, when it worked, worked anywhere I took it. Anyway, on to the bigger problem. Allegedly, I used up 15GB plus an extra 35 euros worth of their (The ‘Three’ gang) service before being cut off totally in a time period of approximately 3 weeks. When I realised on August 4, 2015 that I could not log on to the internet I called their number 1913 to be again (as in Kilkenny) connected to India. It was then I was informed that I had used up my allocated 15GB plus the extra allowance of whatever it is but which costs me 35 euros, of which I was totally unaware. The scrutinising of their Terms and Conditions was suggested as this underhand carry on is outlined there allegedly. To cut a very long story short – multiple calls to them, same story over and over and over again, a very negative and disgusting reaction from the principle in the shop in Mullingar and then on to a computer shop in Mullingar where I took my laptop to have it wiped clean to get rid of Three’s cookies which were blocking me from connecting with any other network (after I had re-established a service from Vodafone). Informed in the computer shop in Mullingar that Three are notorious for this kind of behaviour/service/shenanigans and that I should either go to the guards or at least to a Citizens Information outlet to inform them of my experience with Three and to involve a solicitor to get them to give me information as to how I had used up 15GB plus the 35 euros of extra allowance (unknown to me) as it was practically impossible to have used that much in the time period. It was such a relief to find that this man took my experience seriously enough to suggest the invoking of such authorities as the guards, the Citizens Information Bureau and a solicitor. According to him, Three are notorious for such behaviour and he strongly advised me against having my laptop wiped clean as that would negate my challenge against Three as the information about the sites I had accessed in the time of my usage of Three’s broadband would be lost. However, I had sadly, listened to one of their robotic staff in India (they are the same in Ireland by the way!), to wipe my browsing history in an effort to clear the virus or trojan or whatever was introduced to my laptop via Three which prevented me from accessing any website via Internet Explorer even though I had a service paid for and working from Vodafone. So, here I am, only able to access the internet via Google Chrome as they (Three) have fuc***ed up my ability to use Internet Explorer to get into my Yahoo e-mail account or any other site. This is Saturday and believe me, guess what I will be doing first thing Monday morning – yes, posting a letter about this to my solicitor and visiting a Citizens Information Bureau and if necessary, I shall indeed take the matter to the guards. They cannot and will not treat me like this nor hold me to their 18 month contract as I will not use them again no matter how desperate I might get for an internet service. ‘Three’ are horrible, nasty, underhand, devious and rotten to the core.
I have called 3 a few dozen times, since they have given us that much trouble, and I have yet to be satisfied with a single call.
Friends don’t let friends use 3!
If you are not using 3, keep it that way, or regret it like I did. If you are using 3, do not renew your contract and get off as soon as possible.
Warning: 3 took over O2 in Ireland, so the service there will drop as well.
Firstly, 3 Broadband are by far the very worst ISP I have encountered both here in Ireland and in the UK. I cancelled my contract with 3 broadband last month and only on doing that did I find that my monthly tariff had been increased by €5 without informing me. However, I terminated due to their abysmal service, attitude, quality of connection and extremely variable connection speed, where they state that 0.4Mb connection speed is acceptable. Not to me it’s not, when some of the time they give you 2.00 to 3.00Mb
The good news is I have moved to WestNet. Fabulous service. Fabulous people. Fabulous broadband. You can’t get it everywhere but check it out
When is a top up not a top up?
I Purchased a modem and €25 euros top up on Saturday 20-6-15 from the Three Shop in Galway SC. I was told that was getting 7.5 GB or one Month.
I didn’t get what I paid for, after less than three days all of the credit on the account was gone.
Their telephone queries say the money is gone and that I now have to buy more credit, seems I had to do something else as well as paying them, yes we did register online.
I complained in the shop today, I was put on to their telephone customer service, very lame responses from both, I have registered my complaint with them online this afternoon.
I was misled and cheated.
Seems I didn’t get 7.5 GB at all and the usage was charged at some premium rate!
Will let ye know if I get any satisfaction from their complaints Dept.
I am not holding my breath.
Over the last few years I have had a data usage of 4 – 9 Gb per month.
In February I signed up for a wifi device from Three which had a 15 Gb allowance. I don’t download stuff or use games – just emails, some research browsing and maintain my business website.
After ten days the service was withdrawn and I was told that I had exceeded the allowance so I should telephone the payments number to arrange to buy another 20 Gb for the rest of the month at €58 per Gb.
I was not going to pay €1160 for twenty days internet access so I returned the device within the fourteen days allowed and Three have been ringing me ever since.
The generally arrogant Indians who ring want me to pay increasing amounts.
I assume its just a scam.
I have since heard many similar stories from people who received huge and unjustifiable bills after O2 was taken over.
Utter shit, at times slower than dial up, customer service crap and hard to get hold of.After being with these gougers for 3 years obeying all of their usage limits this month I went over the limit by 1.5 gigs it cost me €75.00 extra. I hope this company goes belly up so it leaves the market open for a decent ISP provider
this is the biggest load of rubbish, I have ever come acrross. aim glad they decided to spens millions to buy out the o2 ompany, so when everymodu leaves them , they will loose EVERYTHING! three have been desasterious since back in 2009 and 6years on there are still desasterious.
move to meteor 4g service 4g free for life!
m0ve to emobil
move to vodafone
to everthing except 3, 3 is rude, pakistan customercare people, do not belive in quality, they offer nothing good. no service, nothing nothing nothing
Live on Kerry Head near Ballyheigue. The service dropped to virtually nothing just after they doubled my bill. Disgusting service…absolute pile of shit. Don’t waste your money with these ******* scum. The worst money grabbing piles of shit I have ever known. Hope they go bust and lose everything. DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS TOTAL PILE OF SHIT.
Wont stay connected for any length of time ….******* THIEVES…the usual Indian call centre ********…no jobs for the Irish people just a handful of greedy little pigs. Total shit 0 out of 100.
Found these reviews while checking if anyone else was having issues with latency for gaming online. I’ve only had these issues about 4 days now so I was surprised to see all these bad reviews. My internet speed isn’t the greatest (~1Mb during peak and 5Mb+ off-peak) but I’m not on any contract. I pay 20 euros a month for all you can eat data(seriously I’ve had the thing 3 months and downloaded well over 1TB) so I can’t complain too much. I live in rural Cork and as far as I know I do not live near any mast. Alot of you people have fallen victim to the use of Mb vs. MB so let me straighten this out for you all. A Mb is a Mega-bit and a MB is a MegaByte. There is a difference. a MB is 8 times bigger than a Mb. So broadband sellers use this to their advantage advertising speeds of up to 7Mb which in fact is a dowload speed of 875kb per second(7Mb/8=0.875MB). 1024kbs = 1MB. They know the average joe doesn’t know this and will presume its Megabytes they are on about when in actual fact its Mega-bits. Just something to look out for next time you buy broadband
Ah yes 3 – alternative name – MONEY GRABBING LIEING CHEATING TRAMPS. Living in NBA in rural Offaly. They promised we would have a reasonable level of service and God knows we are not hard to please, but, we got nothing-not a meg..Youtube..two days to load a video..service falls over at least 40 times a day and can stay down for 20, 30 minutes at a time. They would go to hell and back, blame modems, PC’s, laptops, tablets, phones whatever but they will not admit their service is substandard. I’m an Engineer and eventually, when I did get the engineering dept of three over a barrel (caught them out on one lie after another) they refereed me to some ***** in their “Executive Office”.. Well I spoke to said ***** and he was the most arrogant man I have ever came across. I told him I wanted to speak to his boss and was told that I would have to write to them to make an appointment…. Starting to boil now… Anyway Mr ***** refused to give me his name or email address… Now these people are not interested in providing you with a service, they are only interested in taking your money.
Bag a shite. Non existent service. I bought a 12 month contract in May, A wireless modem for on the go internet. The best I can get from it is 4.1 mbps which lasted all of 10 seconds. Average is 0.24 mbps. Technician says my modem is broken. I disagree, it’s their service that doesn’t work. I’ve been to several locations around the town, (Tralee) including right near the mast and can only get between 0.24 and 0.1 mbps. Took it to Killarney and got 2.6, which is still not great, but proves it’s not the modem.Returned the modem to the shop for repair as requested. Was given a dongle, speed with that is 0.16. Tearing my hair out right now. I will be looking to have my contract closed on the grounds of non service. I don’t want to give any stars but there is no option for that STAY AWAY FROM THREE.
Here’s What I Think About 3 Broadband:
WORSE THAN EIRCOM
SHOULD GO TO HELL
SO, IF YOU WANT TO LIVE A NORMAL LIFE, SWICH TO ANY THING (BUT) 3
“THREE IS THE DEVIL OF THE BROADBAND WORLD”
total rubbish waste of money hate this provider avoid I have been with them a few years my average speed is about 0.24 mbs even youtube pauses as soon as my contract is up im moving elsewhere avoid avoid avoid
Shockingly poor, they should be shut down. I was with them for a few years, started out with 2.6 MB dowload speed then over 3 years went down to less than .5mb, and from last Oct 2013 was averaging 0.1mb. I complained several times. It was clearly at their end, I’ve since changed to Meteor and am getting around 4mb at much less than the price I was paying “Three” (which was €39.57 monthly)
I wrote to cancel in January 2014 stating failure by them to deliver service, have had automated voicemail messages asking me to call them and a threatening letter, basically ignoring my cancellation and stating I owe them a figure which is growing (I always paid up to date by DD and have since cancelled). They also state I will have a county court judgement against my name from them, bullying tactics
The minimum speed that consumers availing of the scheme are supposed to receive is 2.3Mbps.
“A clause in the National Broadband contract allows the department of Communication to penalise the operators of the National Broadband Scheme, 3 Ireland.
The National Broadband Scheme contract guarantees service levels and imposes a service credit regime on ‘3’, with significant financial consequences in the event that minimum specification service levels are not met,” a spokesperson said. ”
I hope the regulator reads “Rate my ISP” and take action against them without delay
3 broadband is the WORST ISP IN IRELAND!!!!!There customer service
is Terriable. I live 2km from a big town and I get 7kbps. I pay 30 euro a month and I only have a 60gb cap. When I first got 3 speed was brillant now I can’t watch youtube or even look at emails.DO NOT GET 3 BROADBAND!!!!!!!
Hi there, if I could just spare one person from going through what Ive endured with 3.ie broadband then this review was worth it!! I am out of contract with 3 since last year and when I don’t have broadband they fob you off with call backs from engineers(which never happen). So my husbands job is from home and entails a pc for communication. He’s lost one too many jobs from 3s none existent broadband. Ive sent atleast 6 emails in the last 4 days and made 3 long phone calls which are so frustrating with the accent/language barrier. Im forced to shop for another network provider and 3.ie just keeps emailing to say that next month they will generate my last bill for this month!!!!! Hello……I have NO SERVICE!!!! Isnt this fraud? I rate them ———-10 (minus 10) for everything. Its so stressing that these crooks are allowed treat people like this. PLEASE take what Ive wrote as gospel-don’t be caught like me. Thank you.
This is the first review of anything I have ever written online … I felt I had to register here and warn people thinking of choosing Three for broadband or phone. Unfortunately, I live in an area where I have to rely on the disgrace that is the NBS (national broadband scheme). This means that Three are my only option. Over the last 4 years I have not had one single day’s broadband connection … there have been visits from Three “engineers”, there have been lies, there have been hours of phone calls to Three’s (so called!) customer services and tech support, there have promises of call-backs that have never come, and there have been yet more lies. Three have since admitted to me that the minimum spec they are obliged to provide under the NBS is 3.6Mbps at a contention ratio of 18:1. THIS IS SLOWER THAN DIAL UP!!!!! I’ve been told that if they can provide this speed they are fulfilling the terms of the NBS contract and will do nothing. Three are a disgusting, nasty, unethical absolute joke of a company, and the NBS is a national disgrace. I am about to cancel my NBS contract … nothing is better than the “service” Three provide. I will never, ever, ever deal with Three again. If you have any choice please avoid avoid avoid!!
Over the last year I’ve been a customer of Three Ireland (3 Broadband) and it has been the worst Internet Service Provider I have ever experienced in the 15 years I have used ISPs in Ireland. Frequent outages, slow connections, poor network quality of service. I am based in Dublin 2 which you might think would have a decent network infrastructure but no.
Combined with their poor customer service, lack of follow up and ongoing issue I would recommend you steer well clear of them if you are looking to choose an ISP.
How the hell did 3g get the NBS!!! Why aren’t the government sorting them out…. Silly question!!
Their whole set up is utter rubbish. Shame I couldn’t leave minus stars!! Whatever I say here wouldn’t come close to how bad they are.
Just trust me and if you are on the Cork / Limerick borders steer well clear of this lot. Whenever there are connection or speed issues, (daily), they just drop the promised speed further and list everything bar their own cheap and nasty setup for problems.
If you think ‘Oh, but it’s cheaper, then remember if you buy something and it doesn’t work then it’s not cheap, it’s a rip off.
Three have been pretty consistent during my time with them and by consistent I mean consistently bad. My average connections speeds are between 0.5 and 1mb and numerous dropouts, but three customer support consider anything over 0.4 mb acceptable connection speed for rural areas so don’t expect them to do anything about improving it if you’re a rural user not on the NBS. Customer service(NBS customers get a minimum of 3mb if they don’t then they can complain to their local TD), if I could give a negative star for that I would, technical support don’t talk to customer support who never read the customer notes so you end up trying to explain everything done so far to several support people who barely speak English and can only read from a script. I even went to the comreg site that lists the masts and found the closest ones to me so I could specifically ask is there a problem with mast number KD0013 etc and the answer I always (rather too quickly in my opinion) that no that mast was fine.
When I was coming to the end of my first contract the service speeds plummeted and I was conned by customer support into buying a new modem which of course locked me in for another year, I didn’t fall for that this year so they offered me a penalty free exit from my contract, which btw ended 3 months ago so basically I got the two fingers from three support.
So please, unless you have no other alternatives (like me), stay as far away from this organisation as you can but if you do decide to sign up then don’t expect anything more than 1mb from three broadband, forget customer support they are only able to advise you to do things you most likely already have done anyway. Technical supports isn’t much better but at least they do sometimes hit the reset switch on a transmitter remotely.
Three’s only redeeming feature is its cheap. so you get what you pay for, but its only cheap because they get a large subsidy from the government for the National Broadband Scheme. if you do have problems however it’s better to log onto their boards.ie site to report them as at least then you have a written record of what was said. http://www.boards.ie/ttforum/1367
Three NBS scheme is rubbish
No support just a litany of prescribed replies when contact support
I thought they had to provide alternative atellite where poor reception.
Speeds of less than 0.3
Have invested in meteor dongle speeds of 2-3 Mbps.
About to cancel Three
God help us if they get control of O2
Three is the worst broadband i have ever come across. it’s a f***ing joke The Download speed is 0.3mbs & the upload is 0.1mbs & In the evening it can go as low as 0.0mbs or 0.1mbs, The Customer Support is a joke as there all f***king Indian & cant speak English. Thanks a lot Irish Government For Giving a f*ck about the Rural Area! if you are thinking of buying this Three broadband as its cheap, You are spending your money on something you can only use once a f***king week
I have been a consistent critic of 3 mobile broadband for about 2 years as it was an appallingly bad service during this time. When I first got it it was decent enough and we could watch rteplayer in real time, this lasted for about a year then it collapsed and we could only use it for emails or single page internet usage (no youtube or RTEplayer possible in the evenings after 18:00) The reception was always good(there is an aerial visible from our sitting room) but the contention was so bad that we had speeds as low as 0.3 mb/s most of the time after 18:00. Dealing with 3 was pointless and ComReg was totally useless.
However, to be fair, I have to correct my rating now as the service has improved dramatically and it is now possible to watch youtube in realtime most of the time.
Three very good during the hrs of 1am to 4pm but during the evening hrs after work it is bad .
20.25mbs peak 0.3mbps evening galaxys4
cheshire .will 4g resolve this issue we will see .
Absolute fools to deal with and service is extremely poor.
Canceled my account giving 1 months notice and paid in full. They keep ringing me since looking for payments on the account as they say it was never canceled even though they sent a courier to pick up my boaster which is procedure when you cancel your NBS account.
The main problem is the representatives cannot speak or understand english and have a bit of arrogance along with that!
Three deserve the worst possible ratings.
Package: “All you can eat data” sim only 20 Euro for 30 days.
Setup: rooted android with PC tethered via USB cable.
Signal: 4 Bars ( H ) (HSDPA ) ( Aprox 1.2 km from cell tower with direct line of sight)
Scam would be too kind a description for this package.
From Midnight to 9am fair level of service. up to 250kB/s download on (torrents)
From 9am to 5pm poor up to 50-150kB/s download on (torrents)
From 5pm to midnight terrible, took 5 min to load the homepage of the three.ie website.
NBS Minimum level of service 2.3 Mbs @ contention of 18:1
= 2.3 * 1024 / 8 * 18 = 16.3 kB/s ( about 3 x old telephone line modem speed )
Contacted support: “hellooo my friend… how can i be helping you…”
Support reported: Minimum level of service for handset is .2 Mbs
= .2 * 1024 / 8 * 18 = 1.42 kB/s ( about 1/3 of old telephone line modem speed )
Will be returning SIM and looking for a full refund.
Analysis: Go else where if you need broadband.
Agree with most comments here. I can only get 3 broadband in my ‘rural’ area. Used to be bearable, but lately has been getting steadily worse. I lost reception completely for 2 days due to some Three ‘upgrade’. Reception is now worse than ever. I can tolerate .5 mbps speed but number of dropouts has been increasing daily, sometimes as bad as every 10 mins. A lousy service unless you live next to a mast. The government have all this spin about high tech Ireland. If you’re in a rural area, relying on 3g, this is a complete joke.
3 Broadband is the worst broadband service I have received. Fair enough it offers its service at a cheap rate but it is not reforming to the minimum required standards for mobile broadband under the NBS (National Broadband Scheme). I would point your attention to the following link http://www.dcenr.gov.ie/Communications/Communications+Development/National+Broadband+Scheme/NBS+FAQs.htm
The information in this article states that since October 2012 minimum download speed (at cell edge) should be 2.3 Mbps. The only time I have received this speed was when I contacted technical support (as most of you know it the indian guys they put you on to….they are clearly reading from a script). They seemed to have boosted the signal for about 2 days. After these 2 days the connection was back to constantly dropping and being extremely slow. I am looking elsewhere for a better service and when I find it I will be getting rid of 3. I would not recommend that anyone buy into this service.
3 broadband is rubbish.but i have no choice in my area.just did a speestest 50 kbps
technically dial up.keeps disconnecting rubbish for gaming.bad for youtube i have talk to the indians many time but they fob you off with the same crap.if i had a choice i would be gone in a shot.they dont give a crap about you as a customer so steer clear.still waiting for a better option would pay a bit more for a better service.l
Hangs randomly. Customer service, if you can decipher their accent, will tell you it’s a problem with your computer. Odd that neighbours with a different service provider have dropped connections at the same time. At least O2 admitted there was a technical problem with the mast. 3 tells me there is no problem.
I’ve had this dongle about 6 months now and in this time I’ve never seen it go over 0.5 mb/s ( So much for the promised 2 mb/s! ). Internet in my region is awful, and when it’s fast this is much faster than any wired internet I’ve ever had despite it’s awful speed though it’s rarely fast. I’m on 40 GB a month and as a PC gamer/heavy user I’ve come close to this limit though I’ve never gone over it. The dongle came with a free booster due to living in a rural area, which helps the speed slightly I suppose.
The dongle is pretty much unusable during the day, talking 5-30 kb/s. Which makes it impossible to do all but the most basic internet tasks, even with the booster. Between midnight and 9 am the speed jumps right up, about 200-500 kb/s ( Still slow compared to other areas, but I can live with it. ). Meaning the only time I can actually used the thing for anything is in the dead of night and even then it can decide to disconnect cosntantly for no reason.
Overall, nowhere near the promised speed and even though it’s pretty decent when it’s fast ( For this area ) most of the time it’s basicly unusable.
They throttle your broadband despite what they say (The staff in store are instructed to lie to you). I barely get 1 meg during the day.
It’s crap – Really poor during the day but gets much better after midnight. Which is pathetic because during the day is when I want to use it. I have this “broadband” if you can call it that as part of the NBS. The NBS promise is that a minimum of 2 meg download speed is available at all times. 2 meg? I’m lucky to get 1. Unfortunately I’m stuck with Three as nobody else provides broadband to my area. Thank you to the Irish government for not giving a shite about rural areas.
WELL IM GIVING “”"NO”"” STARS…..AND THATS TOO HIGH A RATING FOR THIS PATHETIC SHOWER……….DO NOT GO NEAR THEM…….I THINK THEY ARE COWBOYS
NOW IM SENDING THIS TO HUTCHINSON……HAH…….PROBABLY COWBOYS TOO…
IM OUTTA HERE…..WAS TOLD CANT GIVE A “O”……SO NEXT WORST THING……FOR 3……DO THEY CARE???
Before i begin, my review is for 3 Broadband using my mobile phone as the ‘dongle’ connected to my laptop. Its called ‘tethering’ your phone. This is a great way of getting cheap broadband for people who are on a really tight budget. The only catch is that you will have to buy a ’3′ mobile phone that is capable of being used for ‘tethering’. I bought the Nokia 302 from 3 on PrePay for €109 in 2012. This phone is now for sale on their website for €89. As a PrePay customer i top up by €20 each month. This €20 gives me free 3 to 3 calls and umlimited texts to any network. At weekends i have unlimited calls to ALL irish networks and landlines. The best part about this deal is that i have UNLIMITED Broadband. i mean absolutely unlimited, no download cap whatsoever, and all this for €20 per month prepay, there is NO contract.
This set up will not suit everybody, but if you are on a tight budget it really is a very good option. Before you buy you should check the coverage for 3 in your area. The only problem is that you can only use this set up on one laptop or home computer at a time and the phone has to be connected to the laptop using a usb cable. It can’t be shared by 2 computers at the same time. But on the plus side, when you do have this phone connected to the laptop you can still make and receive phone calls, and you can still send and receive text messages, and surf the web at the same time. The Nokia comes with a nice piece of software, so that when you connect it to the laptop, the phone menu appears on the laptop screen and you can read and send your text messages from this screen without even touching the phone.
I find the broadband speed good during the day, (I’m in west Donegal), but like all mobile broadband it will slow down after 6 or 7pm in the evening. But then again for €20 per month and no contract and an unlimited download cap, im quite happy to put up with that.
If i could leave a zero or minus rating i would. Don’t even think about getting 3 mobile broadband. It is rubbish mine keeps dropping connection several times a day which is terrible if you download stuff. They throttle the service constantly and there indian customer service centre is so frustrating to deal with. I can’t understand a word they say on the phone. Avoid at all costs. This is the cheapest service for a reason.
Waste of time most of the time.Never get more than 0.8mbs when i check the speed online.Customer service cant understand me and i cant understand them because they are all Indian and havent a clue what to do with most techinical queries.Cant wait to be out of contract next month so i can change provider.I get faster speeds on my mobile phone!!!!! All i can say is avoid. The download limit is tempting but you will never reach it as its so slow.Went to stream a 40min video clip, took 2 hours of buffering to get to 30mins!!!!!
I decided to get THREE here in our house in rural Nth. Co. Dub because DSL is not an option and everything else has performed dismally. The Indian man from THREE found our house after 15 mins of me describing where it is! He ASSURED me that we’d get downloads of AT LEAST 7MB, so I went for it. In the end I got an average PING of 200+, an average D/L of 0.21 and U/L of 0.31. What made it worse is I nearly had to sell my soul to get the bloody contract cancelled…”A D/L of up to 0.5Mbps is acceptable in our book. Had to threaten going to ComReg to get them to cancel the contract!!!
how this company is still selling broadband is beyond me!!!!! speed riduculous, cant stream or download most days… looses signal completely several times a week for hours at a time.. broadband keeps needing to be turned on and off. customer service is beyond unacceptable, i cant understand them and they cant understand me, have been hung up on repeatedly if they dont like the call. several friends in the exact same boat!!!… As im stuck in an 18 month contract for 60Mb usage for 40.00 per month, it is unacceptable.. im currently emailing every complaint as a solicitor has advised and keeping a record. taking a chance in court if they bring it this far when i block direct debit payment …. DO NOT USE THEM!!!!!
Overall I’m happy with the service and i’ll explain why. I live in an area where standard DSL broadband is not an option for me. I live three miles from the exchange and download speed is unbelievably slow and just not acceptable in this day and age. Three broadband have a 3G mast about a mile from my house so i said i’ll give it a go and see how things work out. I went for the 60 GB package and i’m getting around 5mbps download and 2 mbps upload. I rarely if ever go over the 60 GB limit, however i would prefer if three had the option of buying add ons so you could extend your limit, or even better if they provided unlimited broadband. It’s only 34.99 per month which is great value for money. The service is fairly reliable. I have an external antenna that i connect to my Huweii router that boosts the bandwidth speed twice as much without having the antenna connected. Customer service would be three’s downfall for me. I get connected to some guy in India who reads from a script and doesn’t actually understand the issue I may be having at the time, their general advice is to reboot router and try again (like i never thought of doing that before i called..sigh) Overall, considering where i live and that DSL broadband is just not an option, I am very happy with Three.
South Cork, Carrigaline area, getting between 6 and 12 Mbps which is 3 to 5 times what any copper line Broadband could have achieved here, so I’m happy with the service, but the download cap of 60GB is just too low, so I’m toying with the idea of having another router from them to double the download… Pity bundles can’t be added on that plan. I’d happily buy more download allowance.
For people with DNS issues, it seems DHCP on this router (Huawei B683) will not allow proper distribution of IPs, so the best way is to use DHCP with manual IP, and also add DNS servers manually (192.168.1.1 – 220.127.116.11 – 18.104.22.168)
DO NOT GO WITH 3 BROADBAND!! I live in a location where the only ISP available to us. We were promised speeds of up to 20mb… Speed test after speed test shows I am only getting around 0.10mb…. And that’s on a good day, and when it isn’t constantly disconecting. And if it does disconnect, the only solution is to entirely shut down the laptop or computer. Some days it wont even connect at all, and we can be left without internet access for hours, or days at a time. The internet is down more times than it is up. Customer service is a nightmare. After ringing about 20 times, i finally get through to someone, explain the problem, and they blame my new laptop for being slow… My 2g mobile internet is faster… If i could, i would change in a heartbeat… Unless you want to spend €20 a month for one day of internet, avoid 3 broadband like the plague…
I wonder does 3 write the occasional good review itself as these are notable exceptions to the norm(and my experience), a quick glance down the stars will confirm this. One of the reviewers in Wicklow said that we Irish accept poor quality and suggested that we “Crap or get off the pot”. If, by this, he means to do something about this by contacting ComReg and complaining. I can let you know that this is a pointless exercise as I went through the process and it resulted in nothing, despite the fact that 3 is not providing what it is selling(i.e. broadband)
We went into a 3G shop and got a 30 day access to Broadband Account. Three weeks later we had used it up and was told that it couldn’t be extended for the final week as it was only a monthly contract. A few weeks later we got a letter telling us we were behind in our 18 month contract, although we have never signed a contract. Despite numerous phone calls where they told us each time it was being rectified we found ourselves getting a letter recently from a debt collection agency. They told us that there are initials on a document (contract? they couldn’t say), but they haven’t seen the contract and 3G seem reluctant to send any contract. Do the staff get commission on 18 month contracts? Looking like fraud – maybe! We will have our day in court. However, be aware of this company, they wont investigate any claims and quickly want to pass you on to someone else to collect any monies, that is not due to them.
I use 3 Broadband as a back up and I must say I get average Down speeds of 10mb and have often got speeds up to 17mb with average up speeds of 2mb +. Pings times vary from 25ms to 65ms which are good even for VOIP. The only problem is there download cap….to low. I suppose their service is location dependent. I am located in the Cobh area of Cork.
We just received our modem last Friday & figured out fairly fast that the broadband is useless for us worse that eircom which we receive 0.8 mb. So straight away on Friday evening I called them they were refusing to accept our word for this. We eventually left it till today and they are still refusing to cancel our contract. So my husband is ringing comreg & changing his current account this is such a pain. We cannot get the return address to send the modem back to them. Is there anyway of resolving this without changing account details we dont want them taking installments on the contract. We are only 4 days into the 14 returns policy this is ridiculous I wish I had seem these reviews before dealing with this crowd of crooks. I assume the government is allowing this crowd to operate something wrong here since I have read tons of negative reviews.
I do appreciate any advice?
I signed up for the 3 broadband pro contract on the 8th of April. It is advertised as suitable for heavy downloading, streaming and online gaming with a download limit of 60GB. I could not do any of these things, this is false advertising. I live about a mile outside of Sligo town and everytime I tried to go on the internet the webpage said ‘the webpage cannot be displayed, DNS error etc’. The internet just did not work on my laptop, phone and Playstation.
I tried the next morning and got a speed of .4mg but the service did not work in the afternoon or evening. The local 3 store told me to contact Comreg straight away and I lodged an official complaint with them. After 4 phone calls to their ‘customer care’ team and listening to them telling me that I had ‘good internet usage’ for viewing 2 webpages and doing 3 speed tests I told them they were a joke. They eventually cancelled my contract and I was able to get a full refund in the store a few days later. I was still within the 14 day window and it was easier for me to get the contract cancelled. Act fast, ring Comreg and keep telling 3 that the internet doesn’t work.
The customer care team were very frustrating to deal with and difficult to understand. I insisted I speak with a manager on my third call to them and I think this got my complaint dealt with faster. Best of luck to anyone trying to get this pathetic service cancelled!
im whith three for long time now is goin from bad to worst last night only 0.32mbps download really night mare i cant wait to finish my contract in 5month left i move to vodafone home broadband at less 8 mb to 24 mb
3 broadband is a ********, a total waste of money
Signed up on the promise of up to 7mb but that youll easily get above 3 mbs yada yada yada and all the bells and whistles
Barely got .39 mbs at best, in a full signal area, contacted them on third day to tell them i wasnt happy, conducted 4 speed tests while i was on to them, .71, .29, .44, .39 but apparently this was perfectly normal speeds for the service and that i couldnt cancel ( they have a 14 day cancellation policy)
This went on over few days, Told them i disagreed, they got very very hostile and aggressive (all foreigners in some far away call centre) and told me effectively tough, nothing i could do and that i was signed up now, again told them i disagreed strongly, wanted some “deactivation” code the store told me i needed to bring the equipment back
When one of the managers managers started shouting down the phone at me i had had enough and emailed their customer care copying comreg / ofcom and told them not a snowballs chance they were getting a penny out of me and that all direct debits were blocked and cancelled immediatley and that i was bringing the equipment back to the store to refund it (this was day 8) and that if it wasnt refunded i was going to remain in the store and speak to every single person that came in and warn them about their so called “service”
Got the call within 24 hours that they would take the stuff back
Do not sign up to these guys, as bad if not worse than eircom, a real joke and very hostile and aggresive when things go wrong as they surely will.
It’s difficult to see how a company could be less reliable, even if they went out of their way to be unreliable. I naively singed up for a 12-month contract. Their Web Cube sometimes connects, sometimes doesn’t, and a lot of the time doesn’t seem to bother what it’s doing. There’s about a 50% probability I will stay connected long enough to post this.
The most dreadful internet service i ever experienced and i had quite a few. no need to say any more. stay away from mobile internet, the technology doesn’t seem to be very sophisticated.
Three is totally unreliable with no support
I am in National broadband scheme with speeds of 0.2-0.3 regularly-way below the level we are supposed to have
Support is a joke to 3
I also have a 3 mobile connection in Navan that I use for my business but is is very slow and often there is no connection at all for up to 1 Hr
The service has deteriorated significantly recently and is constantly dropping out. It is nowhere near the new guaranteed minimum speeds as per letter sent out in October 2012. When you call Three you get a scripted response that often mentions repeaters and contention ratios. They rarely listen and respond to what you are actually saying. As I live in the middle of nowhere I struggle to see how contention can be an issue. Te situation with the National Broadband Scheme under Three really is quite ridiculous now and I have no other options. Why on earth is the government not enforcing a decent service from Three on the National Broadband Scheme!
3.ie does not work if it’s cold or if it snows.
This is going beyond a joke, North Lough transmitter down for a full week now due to ‘chilly weather’. Get your engineers fingers out! Using Vodafone now instead…
It’s going from bad to worse. With them now for a couple of years on the National Broadband Scheme. They gave me a booster to get a stronger signal but it’s faster without it. Support are beyond useless. They don’t seem to be techie people and can’t grasp the fact that my dongle is plugged into a router and not my PC. They insist on plugging it into the PC to do the checks and speed tests but this ends up being slower still (PC downstairs, Router upstairs to get the best signal). Slowly but surely the speed has been dropping to the point where I have now given up and will hopefully be able to get onto Nova Networks. If I could have given them minus 5 stars I would have.
In the 5 months since i signed up, only on 2 occasions has my download speed exceeded 1Mbps with the lowest of 0.12Mbps with average speed of below 0.5. I live in rural galway 5km from nearest mast with clear line of sight, i have external antenae, 298a wifi and a router, but still cannot get internet connection when i want it and too often it drops out if i do manage to get connected. After site visits from three different “engineers” and many many frustrating calls to Mumbai, i am still being ripped off (i now have 4 different case numbers which are being escalated, whatever that means). I am in NBS but feel our authorities are not doing enough to ensure 3 are keeping to their licencing agreement
3G Dreadfully slow, had difficulty understanding the technical people – very embarrassing asking someone to repeat themselves 3 times and still not understand the instructions – I am shopping around for an alternative. I would not recommend them to anyone in my area
I started using three network once they become available in Ireland. Was happy happy all these years, but in the past 2 years their services very unreliable and customer service is absolute nightmare. Their representatives in the customer service team have now idea what they talking about, just following instructions given to them.
Also some representatives can’t speak proper English and when they get stuck – they just hung up ( happened to me number of times). Why should I talk to some “paki” that can’t speak English, spend my time explaining my issue and then get disconnected cos he can’t understand. I pay for services in Ireland, so I want to hear Irish representatives, or any other representative whose first speaking language is English.
Continuous problems every month, always charged for full month but hardly ever had it. To give me wi fi it takes 3 devises, now one is faulty I asked for a new one, six working days ago was assured it would be here two days ago. Now told it will be three to five days so Monday is a bank holiday so it’s looking like up to Monday week at latest. Poorest service I’ve ever seen by a company. Time to come clean and admit ye are not able to provide the service needed by the people
Living in Cavan, absolutely appauling signal, the dongle does not work at all. I get better internet by sharing the connectivity of my 02 iphone. Even in my apartment in Dublin the signal is extremely poor. The customer service personnel also leave a lot to be desired. The Government should reconsider who they award the rural broadband contract to.
i’ve being with three for a good few years, not too bad to start but getting worse and worse.
download at the mo is 0.23mbps but earlier was 0.05
promised it would be fixed but all lies. rathew co wicklow the area.
would not recommend, have to stick with them for the time being until better alternative comes along.
Absolute shite. On a good night i get on average 0.53. My friend had the same problems and reneged on his contract due to bad speeds and horrid customer support. It has been 2 years since he left and still they spam send his bill. I do NOT recommend this crowd, bunch of con artists.
PS. would have gave 0 stars if there was an option to.
Avoid at all costs. As soon as everything is peachy, they are reasonably ok – if something goes wrong, you get a serious case of customer service hell level5.
Every request, every question is just being answered with copy/paste parts from their book. Zero flexibility, zero understanding. In 3o years of dealing with different providers, this has been the worst experience in my life. Response time even in urgent cases is always at least 24 hours, so if you have to rely on something, you are stuck every single time
i have phone and internet dongle with 3 the phone signal ok internet is good on the phone . as for the internet dongle might as well throw it in the bin what a waste of money. good points only 5 months to go on my contract
Wow is all I can say!, I’m living in Milltown, Dublin 6, usual speed for the last year was 4 – 5mps, since yesterday its doubled, noticed late last night that it was 11.5mps using speedtest.net, tried it this morning at around 11am and it was 12mps, just tested now (5pm) and its 10.3mps, absolutely fantastic for mobile broadband, hope it stays this way.
3 network?? Initially when I took a contract out with them in Dec 2011 the download speed was adequate and regular but as the year 2012 progressed the speed decreased and in November became erratic sometimes making it impossible to upload anything and then finally it just did not work at all. The customer service (now thats a mis representation) did not help the technical back up was Cr@p (they seem unable to grasp that Linux is the third most popular OS in the world yet they say they do not support it. So in the end as it was close to the end of my contract I told them to end it as I had to get a Sim from another supplier just to remain online. I told them that I should not have to pay full price for the last Month as the service was so bad. Their response was to say I had service as I had had 15GB download (out of a 60GB contract)
I responded that I would normally have used more and the fact I had had that amount Download was not an indication of quality of service. They now refuse to officially terminate my contract (even though I am not using it and have asked them to stop ,the sim went into the bin) And the continue to bill me which I refuse to pay and ring every day despite me telling them I will not communicate with them from their hidden number Indian call centres and want Email and Mail only. My advice steer well clear of them they provide a bad service and act like gangsters when wanting money they are not entitled too.
Do not even bother with these guys. Worst network provider i’ve ever had! I’m currently stuck using the Huawei E5 and the max speed i’m getting off it is 200kbps, that’s 0.2 of a MB. It’s beyond disgraceful. I’ve tried going into their shop to fix the problem and each time i tried they told me the same thing, “You have to call up customers support and report the problem” and then you’re stuck waiting for half an hour only to be told them can’t help you or you get cut off the line. They are absolute garbage.
PLEASE do not give this crowd of jokers any money the service is atrocious. I am lucky that I am now out of contract with them (popping of champagne corks) as I would have got better speeds and a clearer signal strength by using two empty bean cans with twine attached them. Keep away from these bunch of clowns and trust me and the other 95 % on here giving them bad ratings keep away from them they really are bad.
bunch of … dont want to curse. I would give no stars but I can’t..
My broadband is rather none existant most of the times. I only check emails, FB and watch movies online.
The worst speed is in the evening/night.. I fight and fight with them over the performance. lack of reception but what can you expect from Indian customer service? they will ban you from ringing them when you dare to use word “bloody” as they classify it as offensive. If I could I would change, but I can’t.. no other provider has the brains to come to my little town.
Stay AWAY if you can.
Comreg isn’t very helpful here, so I wouldn’t be so optimistic in using their help.
I’m glad that I DIDN’T find this site before getting three.ie Mi Fi. If I had seen the reviews here, I would never have bought it and I’m delighted that I did because my experience has been overwhelmingly positive.
By way of background: had a not so great, at best okay experience with O2 for a few years so I decided to switch. I use a Mac and I had heard that the latest operating system (10.8) was having connection issues with dongles plus I wanted to use an iPad, so I decided to get a Mi Fi. I needed 15gb and Three.ie had the best price for that on Mi-Fi.
Buying the device was a bit of a pain, the shop was understaffed and some of the processing of stuff like bank accounts seemed to take longer than necessary. However, the sales staff were very friendly and stayed past closing to make sure that everything was working okay for me.
Once I got it, I plugged it in and it worked…(wtf, that never happens, really weird).
The download speed was literally 8 to 10 times what I was getting IN PRACTICE with my previous provider. Superb. One time, it stopped working and I called customer support, got an instant answer, simple, clear and totally my own fault (/blush), but they were very nice about it.
Perhaps coverage is better in my area than others (I’m in SCD), but I have no serious quibbles with this service. My accounts with both O2 and Eircom offered the same speeds but DIDN’T PROVIDE THEM in practice. This one does. The Mi Fi at least is very easy to set up and works perfectly with Mac.
3 Broadband was the best solution for me in countryside. I got kind a good speed and so on, while it came to problems – 10 GB went missing in one night, and Customer Service wasn’t able to help me in any way just repeating I have used them and explaining that antivirus also uses data(10 GB in one night ha ha ha). So, service itself isn’t too bad, but when it comes to Customer service…………… Hope no one will come to that.
I tried to do this without putting ANY stars in because I think that one star for 3 is an over rating. These guys are a bunch of nincompoops, wallies & eejits!! You pay for 8mbps and get 2mbps IF you’re lucky. My max signal that I get is 2 bar but I have received 3 bar at 3h30 am but then only ONCE for about 3 minutes in the last 4 years. I was told yesterday that I can get the new WIFI at the ‘unbeatable’ offer of €15 for ONE gig per month!! I can get 40 gig for €35-00
Moved house last August – no service there, absolutely rubbish although their website says there is! Have told 3 I want out of this contract, 10 months into an 18 month contract. Was told there will be a penalty free which they can shove where the sun don’t shine – not paying another penny for something that DOES NOT WORK. STAY AWAY FROM 3 Broadband. Can’t wait to get on the phone and ‘talk’ to them again.
unbelievably bad service..when i got it first i was getting 3 to 4 megs uring the day but after 6 went to about 0.8 to 1 meg…over the past month i have been getting 1 meg during the day and anything between .2 to .4 after 6….absolute joke…no connectivity for past two days, when i rang and complained it magically shot up to 1.5 meg for about an hour and disappeared again…the worst internet service in ireland…do not sign a contract
I really don’t know where all the poor reviews are coming from. I currently have mobile broadband accounts with all the operators (Vodafone, O2, Meteor and 3). 3 have been the best consistently, over the last number of weeks I have been testing speeds between Vodafone and 3 using 2 iPhone 5 handsets, with 3 I have been getting upto 8Mb/s downloads whereas Vodafone on their DC-HSPA+ network I have been getting max speeds of 2.5Mb/s. geographically this has been in cork, Galway, Mullingar, Waterford, Kilkenny, limerick, Dublin, Italy, Austria, UK. Some tests were in urban areas and some in rural, I live in a rural area and 3 have become my main provider equalling the service provided by the DSL providers.
Latency is normally best on 3 averaging around 50ms. I have tested the service using a variety of cellular devices (iPad, iPhone, USB dongles, Cellular routers) and have found 3 to be consistently the best. Their customer service does suck, but then that applies to most operators. Network outages seem to very rare (I monitor a number of connections using a network management tool and have been keeping a close eye on uptime).
As they only have a 2100 MHz network, steely rake or reinforced concrete structures can impede the service, this is beyond their control(laws of physics and whatnot). If you have this problem, put your cellular device in a better position.
I am currently typing this on an iPad with a 3Sim and the speed test is showing 60ms with 3.4Mb/s download and 2.5Mb/s download. This is in a rural setting near Mullingar.
Any issues that people are having can generally be rectified, maybe not by 3s support.
Mad bills, India call centre, and a dreadful service. Steer clear!
Have just been on the phone for i hour explaining for the millionth time that no i don’t want to pay for broadband i did’nt have. Network went down here on 1st nov and has not come back since. I phoned every morning and every evening and was always told it’ll definitely be back up in morning /evening. Their customer care dept really should be renamed customer we DON’T care dept.. I am furious what a waste of time. You get passed from one dept to next and have to explain whole story all over again. Pure torture. I am really annoyed that i let them annoy me so much, if you understand what i mean. Grrh.
Three Broadband has the worst customer service I have EVER experienced. When trying to cancel and unwanted contract (1 month rolling contract), I was kept on the phone for an hour one day and hounded into accepting a 24 month contract. The next day I rang up to cancel that one and was passed between three different operatives (that must be why they call the “three”) and spent another hour on the phone convincing them that I actually wanted to cancel, not change my contract. All this at a cost of some £10.00 to me because their customer service line is NOT FREE.
Their coverage is passable, signal strength poor and speed is well below average. Value for money is very poor, costing £15.99 per month for an allowance of only 5 GB. Ping speed is awful and judder is poor, meaning that the quality of connection on the whole is extremely poor.
I would never deal with them again, even if the service was free. The worst thing about them is value for money followed closely by the worst customer service you can imagine. If it were possible, I would give them NO STARS because, even if their services are excellent, the way I was badgered for wanting to cancel is unforgivable.
Living in Dublin 6. I use the tethering option on my Samsung Galaxy to make my phone a wifi hotspot and log onto it on my mac and PS3, using speedtest I usually get between 3.5 and 4.5mbs (5.4 once) download and around 1.5 upload. I have unlimited usage as part of my package and have used it to watch Netflix at HD quality without problems, the only downside is reliability its generally ok but sometimes I can’t get a signal for about a half an hour, if the reliability was 100 % I’d give it 4 stars overall, in general I’d recommend it for Dublin 6 region.

OMG, why didn’t I find this blog when I researched mobile broadband? I have put real time an effort into making sure I don’t get screwed and then WHAM!, I get the Web cube for a whopping 30.49 p/m and download speeds up to 700 kB. The upload speed, surprisingly, is over 1 MB. This is beyond unbelievable.
And the funny thing is that they say the network in your area is either congested or there is poor coverage where you are. It’s never their fault. Three have some alpha ***** on them.
Please please please, whatever you do, DONOT sign up to these cowboys…. their boadband, even through NBS is shocking,
they hav confirmed they hav had poblems with masts since june/july but nothing is done about this.
They have confirmed in witing that even though they are aware of the issues, they will not povide credit for lack/non existant service.
Their customer service is nothing short of pathetic, and compises of lies, lies oh and some more lies thrown in… they will then try to twist everything to coverup their lies, nothing is ever done, false engineer reports, breaches of data potection legislation, incorrect invoicing, bottom line is no service, lies and lies by their staff and no accountability for their lies.
Please , stay well away from their dishonest staff and failed service.
Painfully slow. Don’t buy it!
Worst network in Ireland!
I am lucky to get 0.5 Mbit/s, my usual speeds are about 0.2 Mbit/s.
They do nothing about improving their network, most of the time they just ignore ignore your complaints. They simply DO NOT CARE about their customers.
Getting 3′s internet will probably be the worst choice in your life, you wont be able to load webpages properly, play multiplier games or watch any kinds of videos. The only way to get anywhere close to 1 Mbit/s is to stay up to 3am.
The positive comments on this website are probably faked by three’s employees.
I mean look at their ratings on speedtest.net, they have THE LOWEST one. in Ireland and possibly in Europe (1.9 out of 5.0).
They simply are not able to prove internet service.
Back on 1st August I suggested if you have problems with 3″Broadband” that you should contact ComReg and register a complaint with them. I did this and now I suggest that you don’t actually bother with this option. I got an answer yesterday saying that they had done their bit by opening up channels of communication between the customer(me) and 3. They said that they noted there had been “an outcome” which consisted of 3 telling me that they were sorry that I wasn’t satisfied with their service and I could go to another ISP if I liked. 3 also said that they were continuously upgrading their service.
So don’t waste your time with the ComReg option. There isn’t really a solution except forget about it. Try another ISP but I suspect they’re all as bad. At this stage I think Mobile Broadband is an oxymoron.
Thank Goodness, you’re not a fake-rater, Bent. Hahahahaha
This has been a life changing service for me! My brother and I could never play games online but now we can Watch pirate films and play games at the same time with no lag and flawless connection! If I could, I’d give every person who works for 3 a giant hug!
Just want everyone to know I bought the 18 month 15.98 per month dongle stick, i thought i was getting a good deal and expected it to be super fast, but i am wrong, it sucks, worse than the vodaphone i had before, i even live at a high location on a hilltop without any obstruction around the aerial, in one of the major top 10 cities, and the signal’s still crap, that doesn’t say much about 3, it must be even worse in small towns and rural! No I wouldn’t recommend them at all. I can hardly open more than 3 tabs simultaneously without being cut off all the time, and having to reconnect! very very annoying!
Geeze you people, STOP complaining and just give it back, from October 2012, 3 are committed to providing 2.3 MBPS , if they cannot do it and you live in a NBS area you will have to pay a LOT more to get a better service , if you live in a city be a student and get the 10E mobile broadband from o2 with 15GB per month.
We Irish are WAY too palcid, we groan and complain and do do nothing, PUT THE GLOVES ON AND FIGHT,
the way our country is being run is terrible but the same thing, we just complain.
WOOW, I have read through this and we need to wise up. Find a way to tweak the broadband speed up to 2.3 MBS or give the thing back, 3 give this speed as a guarantee. The problem with the Irish is that we give off and compalin but we dont do anything, that is why our Government pay themselves SOOOO much, we just complain.
Before you give it back though, is there a provider that can give you the service and the download amounts for the same price because under the NBS you are entitled to 40Gb download for 20E per month and unless your a student that can avail of the o2 mobile with 15gb for 10E there is NOWONE else offering the price.
Simple S***T or getoff de pot
3i say “The speed of the data modem depends on a number of factors like your proximity to the cell site, structure of your building, relevant weather conditions, the topography of the area you live in /use the service in and the congestion level.” I didn’t complain about the comms (Aok) I complained about the download speed. I was monitoring the ports in and out and contention was not a factor. The blockage is occurring in 3i distribution or, if you like, NON-DISTRIBUTION.
They have sent me a “your opinion matters” survey. Ha Ha. How Khafkeskian.
A complete waste of time using the Dongle. Comms are ok but the download speed on short bursts measures about 20 kb/s. Last night trying to download 90mb/s the first 5 Mb/s took one hour and the next 85 Mb/s were forecast as 12.5 hours..There seems to a complete mis-statement by 3 i of their minimium speed and contention numbers. Perhaps the Minister (TD) would be of some use. The Indian help desk simply wanted to know my address and date of birth when I complained today. After all I had given them the mobile number. Surely they should have been able to work from that info.
i have to correct myself, as i did a review earlier this year in which i wrote, the transmission rates during the day were quite mediocre. it occurs now more often, that they are even then complete crap, too.
e.g. just right now, in the middle of the day, using speedtest.net, i’m getting 0.24Mbps download and 0.07Mbps upload and this is by far not for the first time. the connection is now so slow, that it’s nearly not there at all. is this a joke or what? it’s neither good for voip, nor for online gaming nor for streaming films. for reading and writing emails and reading the papers the internet access at the library would have been good enough!
if they haven’t got the capacity, they shouldn’t sell so many contracts. i wouldn’t even bother with calling the customer service, as this apparently costs a lot of nerves and generally seems a waste of time.
i know, it’s the cheap option, but still i pay money for a service, which is too often entirely unusable. i must admit that, being a notorious cheapskate according to my general financial situation, of course i took the 18-month-option. that means, i’ll be with them, patiently waiting, for one more year… enough time to look for an appropriate alternative. i’d rather pay up a little bit, than pay anything for a grossly useless service.
Having signed up for an 18mth contract, I experienced pretty much the same problem as a lot of people. Namely, during the trial period you get a great signal and thereafter the service is completely rubbish. If you try ringing three customer service you get put through to the other side of the world, where its not so much a case of the person on the other side of the phone not understanding english but not understanding the meaning behind what you are trying to say or maybe not wanting to understand your concern. Originally I signed up with Carphone warehouse and I was promissed the earth. But what I found odd was that you only have 7days as opposed to the 14days which you should be allowed, is that legal? I could have kicked up as I was misled about the coverage in my area but I didn’t want the individual to get in trouble, silly me hey? Three network and Carphone Warehouse nil points..
Previously I had my service from one of the other big suppliers for the same price and the service was good and the customer service reps Irish. You know what? I’ll be going back to them sharpish when my contract is up..
Completely crap. If you are thinking of signing up with them, DON’T!!! They are a total joke. You would be better off with dial-up.
i love the way the service sucks then they ask is there any reason as to why this payment was delayed,if i list the reasons i would be here all day lol(and how dare they ask in the first place),they are no good no personality money grabbing little robots who waffle on the same tripe every time you speak to them ,they give lame excuses as to why you get connection problems, each rep says something different and as for rude (i only wish i could respond in my natural tone, then they would know what rude is lol)they treat you like a child.the gov needs to get a real provider in and get rid of these gansters,02 are the same, best service i ever had was chorus cable broadband but i move around so i needed a portable modem,oh well here’s to the future and what kind of new scamming companies pop up hehe
I have definitely had my share of problems with three; having constructed a small satellite dish from kitchenware, spent hours on customer care to India, and trying every square inch of my house for reception. The top speed DSL in my locale is 0.40Mbps and Vodafone’s 3g network was about 2.3Mbps, 3 offered four times the data cap of Vodafone and an average speed of 1.5Mbps (with peaks of 5.5Mbps after 12am). I do play xbox live a lot on this connection and have no problem getting open Nat and ~100ms ping. Which are enough for me to mop the floor with virtually everyone. I am aprrox. 5km from the nearest mast.
‘Somebody must be paying you two guys, you’re out of step with all the others. You don’t even give names’
Grow up buster! What is your problem? Where I am the system works: live with it.
I’m retired & wanted mobile broadband so I could use it either in Dublin or in West Clare where I now spend most of my time. About 18 months ago a very nice guy in their shop in Ennis said that they had coverage in the Quilty area so I signed up (none of the other service providers had coverage there). In Dublin I’m c500 metres from their mast & in Clare its 9.5Km away & not line of sight, there’s a hill in the way. I use a B260a connected to an external directional antenna.I had some problems initially & found that dealing with their customer support in India was a nightmare but at least I found out where the nearest mast was & so could point my antenna in the right direction & speeds improved considerably. During the day speeds are ok, on a couple of occasions I have got over 5 megs upload & over 2 megs download but usually between 1 & 3 megs download. However in the evening speeds often fall to about .5 – .7 megs download which is not broadband & is a pain in the ***. Funnily in Dublin I usually get slower speeds although there I’m only 500 metres or so from the mast. Congestion obviously. Reading the other reviews I must be one of the lucky ones. Apart from the very pleasant & helpful guy in the Three shop in Ennis their support staff in India vary from slightly helpful to a total waste of time & it is almost impossible to understand their version of the English language. After 36 years I am changing my home insurance provider to an Irish company as the previous company has outsourced their customer support to India & would do the same with my mobile broadband if there was an alternative.
Somebody must be paying you two guys, you’re out of step with all the others. You don’t even give names.
I live in an NBS area in north Westmeath. No eircom, no UPC no nutting. Unless you go for satellite or one of the radio link cowboys. Wonderful! It works. I’m 1Km from the mast and get 3-5Mbs day in day out. I use a B260A on a 10m pole with a directional antenna. I started with the stick and it was a so-so connection. The B260 + antenna gives a good, stable connection. Nto a patch on fixed line but we don’t have the option being 11km from the exchange.
For €19 per month its a gift. No NBS no internet.
The real downside is the Indian call centre. I’ve only had to use it once and they were a complete waste of script monkey space.
Are you sitting comfortably? A positive review for Three! I’ve quit landline broadband (0.4Mb/s and daily dropouts). The constant excuse? “You’re too far from the exchange, you’re lucky to have any connection at all”. ‘Scuse me? I’m on the outskirts of Cork City!
A Three dongle in a weatherproof enclosure, linked to a wireless router is giving me reliable 2Mb/s download, and 1Mb/s uploads. Okay, there was a bit of tweaking to get there, but the difference between 0.4 and 2 Mb is startling. Still pleased 2 months in. May upgrade to 60GB allowance for €30.
Yes I know, 2Mb is no great shakes for the city folks.
Customer service a total joke , even when you can understand them.Ran me aroud in circles blaming my laptop etc
I realise that I’m an exception, but I have used 3 broadband via a mifi dongle for the past 18 months with virtually no problems. I’m in a remote area of West Cork so there isn’t a congestion problem and had one annoying week when the service was unavailable for three working days (8.00 – 18.00) due I was informed to an upgrade, but other than that, I’ve been getting over 99% availability and decent speeds.
Ringing the support department in India was a pain in the backside, but I’ve only had to do it once!
“Don’t forget 1 star = THE WORST, leaving all one stars gives a lower ranking than zero stars”
I am far too angry to leave a review. Do not sign up with these utter muppets.
It is not broadband and a lot of the time it wouldn’t even measure up to dial up. 97 kbps this evening down and 571 kbps up. really unreliable and not there when you need it. not providing a national broadband scheme, surely they are in breach of their licence.
The “Man in Blackrock” must live in the most priviliged part of the country. The vast bulk of the reviews on this site reflect my experiences with 3 Mobile “Broadband”. When I use it during the day I get at best in Dublin 3 Mb/s in Tipperary sometimes 1.5 to 2 Mb/s in Wexford 1 to 1.5 Mb/s. At night all of this goes out the window and speeds come close to 0.05 to 0.1 Mb/s. These are similiar to the old dial-up speeds we thought we had said goodbye to. I was attracted to the “up to 7 Mb/s” ads from 3 Mobile assuming(wrongly) that the speeds would be close to this figure. I notice they don’t advertise speeds now. Surprise, surprise. They are contracted (by the government) to supply minimum speeds of 1.5 Mb/s at all times. The government needs to remove the contract from these people and re-tender for acceptable mobile broadband.
I have to give them one star as I’m not allowed to give none.
Worst ISP ever, Doesnt work 9/10 of the time
I’ve had 3 mobile broadband via a home modem (a Huawei B260a) for about six months now. From day one it was three to four times faster than ADSL and I’m four miles across the fields from 3′s mast. I have an external antenna on a 10metre high pole, so that helps. ADSL was never going to get any faster for me than 1.7Mb/s, because of the same distance from the exchange – it had maxxed out.
Occasionally, the 3 service goes slow and I reboot the router – this happened every day or two for a week then rectified itself; sometimes it occurs again, but a quick reboot cures that.
The weather does affect the signal, but only in the direst conditions and I can compare it to a similar Vodafone data link I had some years ago, using the same mast and antenna, when the service was dire most of the time – so 3 is a vast improvement on that, as well as on Eircom.
Very infrequently, like about twice, the service has died completely for an hour or two – I don’t know what caused that, but it came back and worked fine for weeks thereafter.
In short, I suppose I’m lucky in my level of service received, going by other reports, but I’ve learned to accept vagaries of service as it’s not a perfect system and I’m in the middle of nowhere.
Uptime for the past six months has been 99.999% – and I always have an ‘on’ connection, dowloading stuff or browsing.
Really, I’ve got no complaints – it’s been fine, on balance.
And cheap – did I mention cheap? €30/month for 60GBytes – on which I use Skype and get incoming VoIP calls via my modem (although callers pay mobile rates to dial this number). I can’t make outgoing calls on it, simply because 3 haven’t enabled that facility in Ireland.
By taking this service and dumping Eircom, I’m quids in.
completely useless (dowload rates of approx 0.5MB) after 9pm, sometimes earlier on a regular basis. one can hardly call that broadband. they’re never ever near the once promised 7MB. throughout the day i receive an average of 2.5MB, which is quite mediocre. a ping under 100 is a fairly rare occasion. they should’ve told me, i couldn’t use the service properly at night and i would’ve thought twice about it. now i’m stuck with them until the end of 2014. well, they’re cheap and by now, i know why. it’s because they provide crappy service. if you haven’t signed up to them yet: stay away! btw: it’s annoying, not to have a zero-star rating solution.
I’m annoyed I have to give them one star.
The level of service delivered by Broadband providers in Ireland is completely unregulated.
A petition has started by me to bring Three.ie to account over the bad quality service they are providing to paying customers. Please sign it and pass the word on.
I tried cancel mine within the 14 day period was told €230 cancellation fee. She told me the reason speeds where slow was cause of congestion aka too many people using the service @ same time. That alone is cause for anyone to cancel there contract. Its simple there two sides to a contract they must adhere to there side of the contract too which is provide the service. No matter how long your into your service if they cant provide you with the service then its a breech of your contract. I record all my phone calls with them I have one guy tell me the weather affects the broadband speed two mins later he denied saying it. I have all there excuses recorded same shit mast problem and congestion. Cant wait ti get back on phone with them tomorrow as cancellation team was finished for the day when I rang.
After reading most reviews here and feeling the same as everyone else i went digging myself and i have found this maybe it will of those those ina contract it wont get you out of it but may ease the pain .( I will be putting this into affect myself today and will try leave another review on how i get on)
ok so as we are all bound by terms and conditions so are three and if you go here http://shop.three.ie/terms/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/NBS_smallprint.pdf threes terms and conditions for the national boardband scheme. It states on page 24 —- Service Rebates for failure to meet commitments outlined in Tables 1 to 4 (inclusive) of paragraph 2 of this SLA will
be assessed by 3 on a quarterly basis and, if applicable, automatically paid within 60 Working Days, to the affected
Customer in the form of a Service Rebate against their installation or fixed monthly Charge, as outlined in Table 6 —
TABLE 6 SAYS ON TOP —–Service Performance – Minimum specification as per
Table 1 or Table 2 (as applicable)
TABLE ONE SAYS–Minimum download speed – minimum speed in Mbps that files are
downloaded by a Customer from the Internet at 3’s ISP.
It says three has 5 working days to try fix this problem first — Service Affecting Fault 5 Working Days
I dont get 1.6Mps so i will be using this against them. This will take time as all rebates are done on quarterly basis. So ring complain stay calm allow 5 working days and if not fixed ring again stay calm and so on and state theyre own terms and conditions back to them (which i have posted link above for ) REMEMBER ALWAYS STAY CALM ON THE PHONE
There are a few other terms and conditions on that too ie Service Availability 98.5% Calendar year,Installation Time etc. you will have to read yourself which may help you too
Hope this helps some of you I will try leave another review ina week or so to update ye bye have fun
Hello people, i did get a call back from a very nice girl from the deparment of communication, she couldnt condem the NBS , or the fool of a minister who gave them the contract ,she said she would’nt diagree with what i said about the crap service and she was aware of the complaints about Mumbai customer service!, (fair play to all that have complained to Dublin)unfortunately they have a contract and the cotract states a speed of .5 of a meg must be provided, now only an Irish politican would agree to that, im sorry to say that as an Irishman! .Essentially the goverment gave 3 the licence to put masts all over Ireland and the only benifit is to 3 and their mobile service, i dont think anything can be done unless somebody highlights the issue to the EU who as far as im aware have contributed to the NBS so we (should) get a broadband service… i have cancelled my service as i no longer “need a car that travels at bicyle speed”!!..i hope everybody else on here gets some reprieve from these vultures! thiochaigh ar broadband………..
For 3 brroadband, i want to give zero rating. I really not happy about their service in hongkong. They made an appointment to install the broadband but non of their technician came to my house and even never call me. After 2 days later they call me again and gave me an appointment to install but they never came and neither call me. I was so frostated. I phoned to the customer service but they always transfer to the english department and never pick up call. They told me that i have not given them fixed appointment time. What a false statement from them. It was them who decided the appointment for installation, i surprised when i heard about it. Hardly, i was possible to have chat in the chat messanger, they have given me an appointment. If this time they didnot fixe it then i will cancel the contract and never ever look back again to this company.
This is a disgrace of a service , as everyone who has used three broadband knows by now , rubbish speeds and awful customer service . There should be an option on the ratings where you can leave zero stars , and performance would absolutely get a duck egg.
Hi Guys and Girls, I have been in an ongoing opinion difference with 3 Mobile as regards what is an acceptable average for download speed. When I got the modem first(in 2010) it worked acceptably for about a year. However in the last year it has been unusable after 18:00 for anything other than reading emails and low demand google queries. My latency and download speeds are in keeping with all of the previous contributors. The customer service people have been polite but do say that 0.5Mbps is an acceptable average download speed.
I have referred my complaint to ComReg and to be fair to them, I got an immediate reply from a lady who informed me how to make an official complaint. This I have done and will keep you all posted. I suggest that you also make an official complaint to 3 mobile and when you are not satisfied with the answer then officially complain to ComReg. I would also suggest folks that there is little to be gained from hysteria and foul language even though your blood pressure does soar when speaking to the customer service in India. I got polite responses to my reasoned arguments. I still rate all of the items for review as one star as nothing has been achieved in terms of Performance, Reliability, Customer service or value for money because the system, at present, is not fit for purpose.
I concur with most of the complaints above. Over the past week my PIng has been as high as 551 Download has averaged .24 and Upload .026. They are a hopeless outfit and their service is a reflection of the civil servants who awarded a National Contract to them. How can we organise and get these people hounded out of the country ? Could we get somebody in the media to take up our grievances ?
Stay away from the national broadband
And in 2010 the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) defined “Basic Broadband” as data transmission speeds of at least 4 Mbit/s downstream (from the Internet to the user’s computer) and 1 Mbit/s upstream (from the user’s computer to the Internet). The trend is to raise the threshold of the broadband definition as higher data rate services become available.
In 2001 UMTS TDD 3G wireless broadband was capable of 16Mbps download speed.
Need I say more?
Hello people, i spent this week trying to get somebody in the dept of communications to confirm that 3 only have to provide speeds of .5meg, guess what? nobody has called me back! even after leaving three messages!! pardon the pun! Now if this is what the deparment are calling customer service its no wonder 3 are pulling the p***. I think we all need to call the department to complain, just think how many people are just putting up with this crap service, by the way did europe help pay for this maybe thats the next step, complain to them, all i want is to be able to surf the web with out having groundhog moments! my 18 month contract is nearly up i think im just going to become a hermit! after 18mnts of dealing with this crowd i think i have the mental state for it.
“3 is delighted to have won the NBS tender – it’s great news for 3 and for rural Ireland. We’ll be rolling out our first class broadband network bringing internet services to thousands of homes and businesses across the country.”
Here it is folks have a look for yourself on the above link
Min (at cell edge) Max (at cell centre) Download Speed
200kbps 1.8Mbps Upload Speed
This states a minimum of 1.2 Mbps at cell edge and a max of 5 Mbps at cell centre.
Hands up anyone who always gets a minimum of 1.2. I thought so, only our brothers and sisters in the UK. It’s plain to see that 3 Mobile is not providing what it was contracted to provide to the Irish people by our government and it’s time the contract was removed from them and given to someone who can provide the service. It’s obviously possible as they can do it in UK. But then the UK government wouldn’t let them away with what they provide us.
I wonder what their second class broadband is like?
I tried to leave no stars but that wasn’t possible so they get one star for all items, they don’t deserve it.
I wish to concur with the others except Chris 23 July below, the service is as bad as he says but I have to say that they are very polite when they tell you that an average of 0.5 Mbps is acceptable. This is unbelievable. When I went for the system 2 years ago I was led to believe from their advertising that speeds of up to 7 Mbps was what to expect. I can’t find any of the ads from that time but they now claim that they never advertised that I would receive up to 7 Mbps only that the MODEM was capable of this speed. At best it’s misleading advertising at worst it’s downright lying. I’m out of this contract as soon as I can get out. It’s impossible to view any kind of video like a 1 minute youtube without 6 or 7 stops for 10 second breathers. It’s just about acceptable for email as long as there’s no attachments. This crowd were given the government contract for countrywide broadband, did anyone question what they were offering or capable of. It should be taken off their hands and people should be refunded 93% of their subscriptions as 7% is as close as they get to the mythical 7Mbps.
Speed non existant this evening, .5 down and .02 up, ping of 85ms? Called customer service and the guy told me the average speed is .5 mbs and they dont refer complaints to their technical service team unless the speed is below .5mbs down, he also told me download speed does not matter?? , he further informed me that 3 have only to provide .5mbs with their contract with the goverment , now somebody tell me why would the goverment would even bother with a nbs if all that was guaranteed was .5mbs!! …ONLY IN Ireland!!
I live in a broadband enabled area (Eircom) but due to a split line, I am forced to use Three. During the day broadband speeds are often very good (2mbps download and up to 1mbps download. After 6pm and during school holidays speeds are very slow though. At times, service disappears for days on end. Three customer services are appalling, with agents going through a non flexible script. As soon as an alternative becomes available (almost certainly this year for many parts of Ireland) Three will be gone from my life! (and many other peoples’)
I live in north Galway and after first having the nightmare service from airwire i was delighted with 3, but alas it didnt last and now the service is at dial up speeds with ping values in the 100′s, gaming used to be ok last year but has gradually gone downhill ,3 are obliged by their goverment contract to increase the speed this autum but the system seems to be overloaded and the increase wil do nothing i fear to improve the speeds. I contacted the goverment department once and seemed to get somebody who was working from home and seemed uninterested in my complaint! I have no other options for internet providers as i live in the deep country and eircom has no more lines where i live and id be so far from there servers it wouldnt work for gaming or videos anyways. Why do we have a third world wireless internet service in Ireland? PLEASE UPC COME DOWN THE COUNTRY , I DREAM OF 20 MEGS!!
Very difficult to give any stars to 3 at all. Their customer service is appalling – negative scores are more appropriate – I have never come across anything like them. They do not understand the word ‘dialogue’ – ie that you listen actively and respond. They do NOT listen. I object to being bullied – and that is what this company does.
I enquired about, then ordered the 3 wireless system and waited, and waited, and waited for it to arrive. Having been told it was coming, then that they couldn’t find me on the system (despite me still being a paying customer on the old system!) so I cancelled. Immediately, ie within 24hrs they sent out a dongle – but I’d already arranged for one from O2 by then (and believe me O2 was much faster).
3 then took my money, threatened me with debt collectors. After three phone calls where they told me the version of events they were placing their ‘rights’ on I refused to speak to them or answer the phone to them again. I emailed them, gave them the facts in writing, (keep a record of all telephone calls, length of calls, who you spoke to and their attitude and the result of the call) include all details. I told them that any attempt to telephone me would be classed as intimidation. All communication was to be by email (fine if it’s working but otherwise insist on a letter). They began to back off and said they would ‘let me out of the contract’. Due to illness I was not able to follow it up to get my money back, but they did stop hassling me.
I am quite happy to send the emails I wrote to them to anyone who might like to adjust them to suit themselves – ask via this review page.
Using words such as ‘intimidation’ and false advertising, the fact that they state they record the telephone calls – ask for a transcript or copy of the recording so you also have a copy of your transcript giving them 21 days to provide them – you are entitled to it – Freedom of Information Act. Put this request on paper, until they have responded by giving you what you requested (which they won’t) After the 21 days, repeat your request in writing, with a copy of your previous email. Express your ‘disappointment’!!!!! and state that you are not able to take the matter further until they have provided you with the information you need in order to take legal advice!
Maybe 3 customers and ex 3 customers need to contact the Consumer Agency and force some sort of class action against this company whose only aim appears to be to con people out of money for a service they provide if you happen to ‘hit lucky’ because of where you live, but otherwise you, the paying client who is not receiving what you are paying for, is treated rudely, inconsiderately and is threatened with a years contract. DO NOT accept their bullying tactics. If necessary, close and re-open your Bank Account to stop the Direct Debit and use the terminology above – they will push you a little but will back off as no Judge would listen to them if they have not dealt with your reasonable requests. Just keep your cool and play them at their own game!
I live about two miles outside Kilcock Co.Kildare.When I got 3 about two years ago,I was absolutely thrilled with it.
I was getting between .5MB and on occasion 1.5MB
For €20 I was delighted.
I was recommending them to anyone that would listen.
I could not get O2 or Vodafone signal and Eircom phone lines were outdated.
About a year ago I upgraded to their 7MB Dongle.I got 2MB connection for about two months. Then slowly it went down hill.I am now lucky to get .2mb (yes that is point 2).
Mostly it so slow that it is not worth the effort. It can take up to a minute to load my Facebook page,in fact sometimes it takes so long I just give up.
My reception signal is always very good,I always have internet even if it is very slow.so I reckon it is a contention ratio problem,in my area.
i believe the new phone lines in my area have been commissioned by Eircom,so happy days await.i need to check when my contract expires though.
A final screenshot. Limerick city 20/07/12
Worst customer service I have ever experienced in my 36 years, complemented by an terrible BB service.
I signed a contract with 3 for 12 months, this was up in march….I moved house & I stopped using it BECAUSE IT WAS DISGRACEFUL in May. I phoned 3 & told them it was too slow, and they continued on to say well what do you expect when more people join every day!! Needless to say THEY REFUSED to cancel, they said they would continue to send bills every month & there wasn’t a thing I could do. they said I was under contract for another 12 mths, I told the woman I had the ppwk to prove it was up since March & she changed her tune saying it was for another 6 mths!!!!
I have never in my life dealt wih such arrogant people, they talk over you, make you out to be stupid & harass you ringing you umpteen times a day trying to bully you into paying for something you dont owe.
Their next trick in the bag was good old STUBBS GAZETTE…..again like n irish version of 3! anyway, have spoken to my solicitor now & will be wiping the smirk off their faces, they can get away with this!!
My experience is the same as most of the other reviews. The service deteriorates from passable during the day ( 1-2 Mbps Download 0.5 Mbps upload) to practically unusable at night (0.4 and 0.1 resp.). It is completely impossible to watch a youtube video or RTEplayer from about 18:00 on. The best speed I have ever achieved was a one-off 4Mbps and then a couple of 3 Mbps download speeds(I check it also when it appears to be working ok). The mythical “up to 7 Mbps” is aspirational rather than real. Having service staff based in India ensures that they have no idea what you are talking about and that you only ever phone them once as your blood pressure rises proportionately with the time spent listening to them talking rubbish. I also feel that I would like to give no stars with the possible exception of the pleasant girl in Liffey Valley who couldn’t help me but suggested I phone Mumbai.
Ok second time writing this review, I lost connection, AGAIN!!!, They cant fix it because I cannot stay online long enough for them to rate my connection!!!!!!!!!!, DO NOT SIGN A CONTRACT. They promise lots but deliver nothing, so far I have had this for 4 weeks and have not had a good signal, not even in Cork City. The limerick countryside is equally as bad, and they are hopeless at support.
Really lousy service, makes the old days of dial up look fast. So lame. There should be a no star option.
Poor, poor, poor. What can I say in 3′s favour? NOTHING. Mediocre speeds during the day and when the evening comes the system just bogs down under the demand. Watching a page load is like swimming through treacle. Customer service, is a joke, struggle to get anywhere with them.
Just done a speedtest.
I only rated them one star for each because I couldn’t rate lower.
Agree, agree, agree. Absolutely horrendous!!! So slow it’s almost depressing!
I live in south Mayo, and I would concur with the worst sentiments that have been expressed by others. Things were not too bad until I decided to leave them (3) and my wife decided to start a contract in her own name. This was last March. We found ourselves dealing with their Indian staff, who exasperated us beyond believe. Someone said previously, that when they smell a sale, they seem to work with extreme efficiency. That is what happened in our case.
Finally my wife’s contract was initiated, but worse then followed. Since that time our service has deteriorated considerable. My wife needs to use skpe, as she has family in Asia. Now that service is almost non existent. Two technicians have come to our home, and installed an aerial. They both allege that the signal issue and the transfer of our accounts, is purely coincidental. I find that difficult to accept. In any case the last technician who called the other evening, assured us that our signal strength was excellent. He was only gone a half hour when our internet closed down completely. Paradoxically, when we moved away from the booster to another part of the house, we got a service of sorts. The entire thing defies logic. At the moment my wife no longer has the skype facility, except for at most two minutes. I believe that those people are pulling the wool over our eyes, and enjoying a a large remmuneration from the government. The latter is pretending everything is rosy in the garden. We are living in a very unfair and often dishonest society.
3 Customer service kill all positive emotions, and lock doors behind you if you will would like back in future.I had problems with broadband network, and got cancel my agreement for this reason. They told me,I will still have pay money for one month ahead, becouse I had tell them about cancelation 30 days ago! Them network is poor quality, and I should pay if I want to go ? Never,Never again ! This is my second bad experience with them, some years ago I had problem with mobile network, this time defently last one.Guys, them customer service is somewhere in mountains of unknown country,no english at all ! I got lieve some stars on rating, but I did not want do that at all ! I will remember this company like nightmare.
There is no other broadband provider in my area (North Leitrim) so i have to put up with three if i want to access the internet and I don’t have a land line, not that i want dial up.
I have had three prepay for about 3 years, and at first very poor signal then it got better, well to one bar which is from 100ms to 4000ms average about 400ms on the ping test. I find if you do a ping test the speed picks up a bit ? or it dose for me.
customer services…. lol waste of time if the signal has gone which happens. the last time i phoned i spoke to a manager and could not understand his accent (European accent), he then spoke sarcastically slow for me.
and as the service was off for 5 days I wanted those days added back to my 30 days that i paid for after being passed around they credited my account with €4.
it’s €35 for 20gb for 30 days, if you top up online with laser you can top up by 10, 20 ,30,40 euros then you buy your add on (internet allowance) so i have to top up by €40 for a €35 add on, when i complained, they said they offer a €5 top up, and they do but you have to go to a shop to buy it, I’m 10 miles from a shop and I don’t have transport. I just think three could be so much better than it is. Our government paid three to give us rural people broadband.
I am surprised after reading the reviews here. I live in kent and the service here is good most of the times. Recently there was a network issue but the Indian lad was frank enough to admit that and whats more, he also waived off my bill. I spoke with a manager and trust me he was rude and din`t allow me to speak, so felt my voice was not heard. I feel the agent level staff is much better and know what they are doing or talking about
Three is a good service and my friends and family have used this service. I feel sorry for those who are experiencing bad service but I got good customer service and my issue was fixed immediately by an Indian woman
The three broadband mast is 1 mile directly behind my house, there are no obsticles what so ever between me and it(except air) and i cannot download a 3 min youtube clip.I have even tried it outside on top of a teleporter and its still muck.Complete and utter shower of c__ts.Just cancelled my direct debit, each s__t f__k_rs!
Anyone genuiely thinking that 3 are going to provide you with high speed broadband STOP RIGHT NOW,
I have been on there case for the past 3 years regarding poor speeds,at this moment in time I reckon I have spoken with half the population of India,(AKA) 3′s customer support team. Now initially the speeds wer’nt too bad but they have rapidly deteriorated in the past two years. When you try to cancel the service they threaten you with solicitors etc, spare yourself a lot of bother and cancel your direct debit to them. Its a complete disgrace that the government are standing by and letting this happen. If 0 were an option above this is what I would rate it.They are a complete and utter disgrace
three is the worst service ever, had no signal so rang INDIA and was told to point the dongle out on my balcony facing east to to regain signal.id say their having some laugh over there. had no signal for four days and was promised a free month after much persistance but the money was still taken out of account, when i rang and told i was promised a month free i was called a liar and no such promise was given!!!! ********
I’ve had issue after issue with my 3G broadband ever since its been connected. I have the booster box they supplied for all its worth.. did a speed test the other night ping speed was 1063 upload and download speed hardly registered… for the last few months i’ve been posting my results on my facebook page i told them this when i rang this evening, i wonder if it’ll put a rocket up someones ***, probably not… they are contracted to supply a level of service and they are’t even close, its time one of our over paid TD’s did his job and sorted this out cus its a joke…. one star is two too many… pure shite
STAY AWAY FROM 3 MOBILE INTERNET!!!!
Their customer services is a joke when you call and tell them you have speeds of 0.03. They call you a liar, even though you have screen shots from different intervals during the day. The internet was great for a few weeks and then BAM! Couldn’t use it anymore. They tell me its my faults its not working or its my computers fault. The best one was that all 5 devices in my home were all faulty at the same time.
My biggest regret in life was going with 3 for their internet. Mind you, there mobile phone service is just as bad. No stars. AVOID!
Well i don’t know if i feel better that i am not alone in my madness. Three is the worst service ever, broadband that’s a laugh, dial up would be quicker and yes i went through that back a few years ago with good old eircom. A lead from my laptop to the very top of the window and 99% of the time youtube is as enjoyable as looking at a image. I thought i was losing the plot with my conspiracy theory about cutting the signal strength after the first couple of weeks but after reading the other posts here, maybe not. Now back to deciding whether to move the modem again or killing myself araghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
Has anybody else noticed that you get a half decent service for the trial period when you get a new dongle ? . Then when its too late to cancel you lose the will to live with the slow speeds and other issues ? . Maybe I am just being cynical , but three makes you that way no matter how optimistic you are .
I was paying Eircom heavily for ISDN and switched to 3 broadband about a year ago. I live in Co Clare with an old phone exchange down the road, and ISDN at best gave me 0.5mb speed. When the installer from 3 plugged me in (with a Huawei box) and found an place upstairs where I got a signal, speeds reached 5mb- happy days (well that’s the average internet speed in Kenya, I believe!).
Those speeds lasted about 3 weeks, and since then the speed is mostly around 0.5mb, very bad indeed. Unfortunately there is no alternative where I am.
Although I don’t use the internet much, I frequently get the webpage from 3 that says I’ve used up my credit and need to top up. Really strange, and the excess fees are extortionate, so I’ve requested an upgrade from 15G to 60G.
We probably need a decent mobile mast near my village, hopefully not prevented by do-gooders putting cardboard signs everywhere saying “NO TO MOBILE PHONE MAST”- so that plus the crap 3 broadband doesn’t help.
Three are an absolute disgrace. The regulator needs to deal with the. I have had similar issues as many reported here. No signal no service, cannot access the internet, and when I can it takes forever to load a page like even the Three homepage. Thee technical support have very limited knowledge and will tell you the most obvious stuff. The main issue is that their coverage is extremely poor but they will not own up to this. Comreg please sort this crowd out. Nobody here should have to deal with an Indian call centre who cannot resolve connection issues. They told me the mast in my area was being upgraded – this ws going on for months. Please log complaints about them with comreg. If I could give a zero rating I would. Stay away from this crowd of imposters.
Exact same issue..but we have no other choice here in west Kerry…I ring them about every 3 days since December.so so so sick of it!
Stay away from 3,i always had a problem with speed, coverage and customer services. They do not help the customer at all. Its the worst broadband out there.
I was signed up with 3 for 3 years and they are a bunch of money grabbing beeps! They overcharged me several times so I signed up with 02 instead! Now I have received yet another bill saying I owe another E60 because even though I told customer care I did NOT want to renew my contract, they are now saying I rang the wrong department on 3!!! This is bull, they are trying to ***** me for whatever they can! They say I am still their customer even though I stopped direct debit and rang their customer care the month my contract was up! The coverage is not very good and they don’rt seem to care when you cannot get coverage for days! They are so rude to deal with and you cannot understand their broken english ! PLEASE PEOPLE STAY AWAY FROM 3 AS IT ONLY CAUSES STRESS EVEN WHEN YOU ARE A LOYAL CUSTOMER!!!!!!!!! Karen
When you have no choice for an ISP, you have to stick with this useless shower of B******S, slow speed, limited access, speak to people who can’t understand you and you can’t understand them, there would be a better connection in Timbucktoo.
Not going to bother ringing customer service because of slow speeds, it seems everyone has the same problem. I did a Magnet Speed test. I waited for 20 mins, the download test was still being prepared, and there’s a ping of 2996ms. High is bad with the ping speed aparently, so I’m gonna hope it picks up with upgrades to their system. Fingers crossed it gets better!
bought a b260a router from 3 last week..30 euro a month for 60gb.. i stuck it up in the attic where the signal is best.. speeds are ranging from.7mb at worst to 3.5mb… i find it fairly good at the minute considering digiweb couldnt pick up a signal here.. bit nervous looking at all the previous comments though.. but so far, its good..eircom and upc arent in my area yet either so i have limited choice
I have been with 3 for about 4 years and have just discovered this site – wish I had seen it before.
I joined 3 via Carphone Warehouse and have been thru’ 3 sets of dongles from the E220, E5830 and now the E585. As I too live in rural Ireland, I accepted that the service would be poor but not THAT slow. I was getting kbs and did not realise that 1mb or higher was available, till I went to my sons place in London. Whoa, like S**t off a shovel.
I have been thru’ the gamut of Customer “dis”Service, Tech Support and the usual Call Centre robots.
I finally cracked and cancelled my Direct Debit after verbally giving them 30 days notice. The calls have now started but we just leave them dangling online till they hang up. I am awaiting the next steps – they claim they have a call recording stating that I agreed to extend for a further 18 mths contract when they sent me the “upgrade” E585. I intend to ask for a copy of that recording to send to Com Reg.
The company Hutchison Whampoa own Hutchison 3G Ireland Limited, PO Box 333, Dublin 2, Ireland, and are the overall owners and from the number of complaints I have read, we really should be thinking of a class action against them.
If any legal firm were to take on a no win, no fee case, I would be willing to sign up.
Absolute shower of c****s,stay away from them. rang a few days due to lack of signal, was asked to take modem into garden to check signal, like a fool I went out and checked signal around garden, I then asked why as I would not be able to power the modem anywhere in the garden, the idiot could not answer my question. I finally got a signal and was online for less than 15 mins before I lost signal again. I rang them again a was asked how I know I have no signal….well firstly mt computer wont connect, secondly our 2 smart phones say there is no signal and thirdly my mi-fi says “NO SIGNAL”….man in Mumbi asked if i am sure, you could probably hear me shout in the next county.
A few days later same thing, woman says she would check coverage in my area, 2 mins later she came back and said she could not find my area on the map…..I asked where she was looking…turns out she was looking for my house name not the area that I live in…when she finally fond me on the map she said I should have no problem as there is a full signal….20 mins later after many tests/reconfigerations/resets and being on hold for 5 mins she said there was a problem and it would be escalated to there tech division and would hear via sms onwhat is happening……..3 days later and getting a very very sasmodic service I still have not heard a word from them.
When I paid my latest bill I was quized as to why I paid 1 day late by a very aggresive woman, when I explained why she was not in any way supportive and was told in no uncertain terms if I was late again it would affect my credit raiting.
I even rang the Irish number for 3 and was told I would get a call back within 3 days 4 months later still waiting for this call.
I now have a direct phone number for the office of communications so will be ringing them in future.
so in my advice keep away from this company at all costs.
If I could give a minus raiting for this company I would its just a scam to make money as I cannot even watch a streamed football match.
Got this 3 Mobile broadband over a year ago. Used to get about 2 mb/s download (supposed to be up to 7) could watch RTEplayer and youtube. In last 6 months have never gone over 1 mb/s in the evenings mostly below 0.5. Can’t see RTEplayer or youtube without incessant stops. Just about good enough to read emails. Did manage a once-off value of 4 mb/s (This was a best ever, and I do check it when it’s working ok) that afternoon I managed to watch a full youtube without stops. This is not good enough. I will change to another supplier soon.
If I could leave no stars I would for all categories. Another thing is their “service” centre is in Mumbai and the guys there have no idea what I’m talking about(or pretend not to). They asked me what part of the country I was in and I told them “it’s mobile broadband” and it’s poor anywhere I try it, in the car, on a bus , in a train, in dublin house and in wexford house.
I can see everybody are disappointed with this crappy service,so am I!it was working not too bad in our last apartment (there were no land line), but we moved just around the corner, and there’s little signal or no at all! Avoid! Going to cancel next week…
Same trouble in the UK with 3 broadband, last few days nothing,on for a couple of hours at 04.00 then off for the rest of the day.As an alternative buy a dongle and sim from “ABROADBAND” online from Austrian telecom,no kidding, only pay when you use it at 56 cents per MB worldwide, picks up the strongest signal and locks onto that, never expires, only need to use it once a year then you don’t pay the 10 Euro yearly charge, basically use it pay, don’t use it don’t pay.Seemples!!
Dreadful product and company to deal with. Highest speed I have achieved is 1.3 and usually attain betwwen .2 and .8
I called to cancel in 14 day cooling of period but told no as I have speed of .4. An absolute joke. I can’t believe this shower
have the govenment contract for mobile broadband. They are a nightmare to deal with. New Delhi robots. Can not believe I
am stuck with this shite for a year. Stay away
slowest stuff ever… i joined three because the 60GB data allowance. My computer is now online 24/7 30 days a month, and still can’t use the whole limit. The download speed is 8kB/s at this moment. I have an O2 internet as well for surf the web. If I make a speed test with it it’s usually give me between 500 – 700 kB/s. ALMOST 1000% SPEED DIFFERENCE!
Have the same experience as most if not all of above
How do they get away with it ????
Today I picked up 3′s E586 modem, one hour after activation I was on to their tech support. The shop assistant promised me speeds of up to 14.0mbps, I some what knew this was not possible but the product information recommended speeds up to 21.1mbps so I was hoping for around 5-7mbps which isn’t bad. After my speedtest.net results I laughed, 0.75mbps! Their costumer support told me “this was adequate for surfing” ( maybe in dream land) and then told me to “ring back in a while”
I’m returning their modem in the morning and unfortunately broadbandless for another week
Possibly the worst service I have ever used!
I got the E586 modem which from reviews is supposed to be a very good Modem.. Not with these shower of ***** at 3 .. They are such a waste of space F”*^ing useless broadband speeds , Broadband ! That’s a laugh.. And Typical of us paddy’s to let them take over the NBS .. What a Waste..
I uploaded 2 long videos to you tube which totalled 2GB, it used 20GB of my monthly allowance and took 2 days, what a waste of space these people r, i emailed them and someone in India replies who can’t answer and tells me my allowance is nearly up, i didn’t think anyone in 3 were that smart.
I got their 21 mbps dongle on the NBS . It has an easy life as it rarely has to deal with more than 1 mbps . Tonight it is down to 60kbps down and 70kbps up , and thats good for Good Friday . If you have spare time between 1am and 5am it can be OK as I once hit 7mbps at 3.30am . Unfortunately I dont have any other choice in west Kerry
Worst service ever – both broadband and customer service! Was promised up to 21mbps, on average 0.50mbps download, and 0.05 mbps upload! Phoned up within 14 days ‘cooling off period’ and have been getting the runaround trying to get the contract cancelled since. Worst customer service ever experienced. DO NOT GO NEAR!!!
totally unusable during the day, speeds drop to below dial-up speeds, and thats if i am lucky. They were looking 3hundred and sumtin euro to get outa contract.Im ****** that i didnt find this site before i joined this shower of *****.Some people are saying bout low signal strength affecting speeds, but ive got great signal and coverage but still shite speeds during the day. Then around midnight ,i get great speeds, 2-5mb,and good enough ping to play xbox live games, so needless to say i get crap nites sleep if i need to look up sumtin on the net. Stay away from this shower of ******** if you can.
I have no choice where I live in west Kerry
But if I had I would get rid of 3 broadband Tomorrow !!.last September I had 2 entire weeks of speeds between 4 and 6 mb 24 hours a day -so the technology is there …..than it went shite again few times it works well in the mornings not much good to me so since I am not home.It is an absolute joke that the government is still supporting them -after all it is more than 5 years ago that deal was done ….wish I knew anybody in the dail to help sorting this out.Customer service yes should def. be based in Ireland not in new Delhi …
I only use it as I live in countryside with no other 3G or cable service available. I despise them. A. Going to try Sat.
It is so frustrating to deal with these guys. STAY AWAY from three.ie
I would advise you not to ring them unless it is a real last resort. First up the stafff in India are just reading a script out to you, best thing you can do is just ask them to skip to the end of their script where they tell you there is a problem with the mast and that they will escalate the call to the “network team”
NBS is a joke, but the alternative where I live is a crowd that want €35 a month for 2MB, plus €135 installation, plus €99 for the router
If only eircom would upgrade all the exchanges, at least I’d have an alternative.
3 broadband so rubbish after 20 phone calls about slow speeds 0.26kb to 0.78kb was told the max speed they have to supply is 0.40kb .bad customers service bad service bad speeds BAD DONT GO NEAR THIS SHOWER
DO NOT GO NEAR THEM WITH A BARGE POLE! they are the worst internet provider in history. i could get faster speeds back in 1997 with a 33.6k modem. they won’t listen to complains, they only give you the run around, or make up some complete BS story as to why you are not getting reasonable speeds. i happen to live near a mast also, but it doesn’t matter whether i am next to it, or a few kms away, the results are the same. works during the day, but come 4.30pm it slows to a crawl and does not let up until the middle of the night. what a waste of money. STAY AWAY!!!!
Keep FAR, FAR away from these people. I work in customer service and after calling them being as polite and courteous as could be in relation to a NAT query to play on Xbox, I was told to be quiet numerous times… THEN told to search Google for an answer because they had no expertise on Port settings?
Absolute JOKE! Seriously, you’d get better service jail!!!
I highly recommend to avoid this company in a miles steps. This company provides extremely poor customer service, technical parameters are very poor and the speeds in the evening after you come back from work are not more that 20 KB/s. It happens also very often that the speeds are even lover or the services are offline. If you want to complain, it is only a waste of the time. Customer agents are OK and polite, managers are very very arogant and do not let you speak out what you have to say. In the end effect their policy is: If it is working, no matter how slow or unstable… you have nothing to complain about. If it is not working you need to give them time to resolve the issue. Well they do not give you time to pay on the other side. DO NOT OPEN A CONTRACT WITH THIS COMPANY! SPEEDS ARE EXTREMLY SLOW!!!!!
All I can say is THEY ARE SHIT. SHIT BROADBAND, SHIT CUSTOMER SERVICE. I am going to take legal action with the amount for Indian calls that I get up to 3 daily have told them to stop but no good. Their is a new law that it is unlawful for any company to make more then 5 calls in a month I get 42 a week.
do not deal with this company…..absolute worst shower of ****** on the planet!! and thats being nice to them!!! never ever ever again…..rude- ignorant- con artists………. go elsewhere for your mobile network
RUDE ARROGANT AND NASTY PEOPLE TO DEAL WITH… DO NOT GET INVOLVED WITH THIS COMPANY…POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE POOR SIGNAL DREADFUL AFTERSALES AND NO SUPPORT PACK OF MUPPETS… BE WARNED NO MATTER WHAT YOU READ OR HEAR THIS IS THE TRUTH YOU WILL BE SORRY… I could tell story after story about Three all of it bad bad bad…
I provide IT services to SMEs. I have just completed an evaluation of mobile broadband for a client in the Dublin 17 area. Three ISPs were evaluated – 3, O2 and Vodafone.
The 3 modem , a Huawei E1820 device, connected without any difficulty to the network giving a download speed estimated to be between 2Mb/s and 3Mb/s. Although much slower than hoped for – the Huawei device being capable of speeds up to 21.6Mb/s – this is a workable rate (the current Eircom landline achieves a download speed of just over 500kb/s at best). Still this is a little disappointing as the 3 cell is only a few hundred yards away.
Over the 1 month evaluation 1 network outage ocurred. 3 customer support said that the cell had experienced some problem, cause not known.
However a much more signficant problem ocurred with email delivery. Incoming email collection ceased on a regular basis. The email could be collected by switching to any other ISP. After the inbound email had been collected it was possible to collect new inbound email using the 3 network for a period of up to a few days before the problem would reoccur. As 3 support could not recognise that the problem is theirs there is no hope that the problem could be resolved. Promises to call back were never honoured.
After the 1 month trial of the 3 network had been completed an O2 device was configured for tests (see O2 section) and the 3 Huawei modem was moved back to my base in the Dublin 15 area.
I have just completed further tests on the 3 network using this device, the Huawei E1820. Network connectivity is very poor during the daytime – say 8am -> 6pm – and non-existent from 6pm to midnight. During the daytime, connection to the 3 network can usually be achieved but download speeds range from perhaps 2-3kb/s to perhaps 30kb/s. After midnight the download speed can be as much as 300kb/s.
There is certainly a big difference in performance between the two cells.
3 customer support is simply not up to the job.
I have given 3 two stars for Performance and 2 stars for Reliability because these were not the worst aspects of their offering. I have given 3 one star for each of the categories Customer Service, Value for Money and Overall Rating because I might yet come across a provider that is worse.
These are only my experiences. You may find that 3 works well in your location. Should you encounter any difficulties however you cannot expect that 3 will have the ability to resolve these in any timely or professional manner.
three nbs………….oh my God….. I had dealings with “3″ a few years ago and made a promise to myself to never deal with them again. But due to my bad memory and hope for better things I joind them for the NBS. I had O2 and it worked great but only had 15gig for the month….. 3 offered 25gig hence the temptation. BIG MISTAKE. Coverage looked good….. speed sucked! I ordered their top wifi router…. got that but also got 2 black repeated boxes that I just didnt want to be plugging in every time we neaded the internet….its just not practical or economical. Rang 3 to complain but OMG what a disaster….. IT WAS ALL MY FAULT!!!! they tried to mess me around…check this check that etc…etc…. I told them I want OUT ……no problem Sir- that will be 400euro!!!!!!WHAT!!!!! cancellation fee etc!!!!!
Luck Iam inside the 14day money back guarantee. I hope it works out and there isint a sting in the tail but Iam waiting for their courier to collect this stuff.
Take my advice EVERYONE- go to any other provider- do not use “3″…… they will take years off your life!!!! and money!!!!!
I’ve been with 3 for a couple of years. I’ve had a few arguements with their tech support regarding the speed I get. Seeing as I live on the north Donegal coast I knew that I’d struggle to get a good connection. I was with O2 before 3 – they let me out of my contract early because their service was below specs. When I went to 3, the people in the shop straight away ordered the booster for me cos of where I lived. The boosters worked great for a while – granted I came from 0.4Mbps to 0.6Mbps with O2 (and a lot slower using dialup). After a few months, whenever I turned on the boosters, my signal went to hell – back to O2 speeds. After a hell of a lot of calls to 3 (where they refunded me for days that I was below NBS speeds) they finally managed to repair the transmitters. Now I have a constant minimum speed of 1Mbps – before I started writing this I ran a test and it hit 6.16Mbps (I know, its the middle of the night!!!). But I know that if I hit low speeds during the day, all I have to do is call them, give them the speeds that are reported and they refund the days payment.
I’ve worked on tech support lines (Dell, HP, Compaq) and I know that if someone came on the line and started moaning straight away I would have been as bitchy as possible (I got paid whether I resolved their problem or not lol (but I always tried my hardest to help them)). A wee bit of courtesy always helps when you are dealing with people who spend their lives on the phone, and it makes such a difference to how they treat you – been there, bought the tshirt Try calling them and smiling while you talk – believe it or not, it translates to your voice and you’d be surprised how different they’ll treat you! Also, if you start your call with “Can you help me please……” you’ll be shocked – it’s simple psychology…..people are more likely to help you if you ask for help rather than straight away screaming
I’ve used my 3 dongle all around Ireland and found a hell of a lot of places that are better and worse than my home signal. 3 broadband is a mobile broadband service, and as such depends on the phone signal available. I live in a house that is built of granite stone with walls nearly 2 foot thick…..there are a lot of places in my house that no mobile phone will work! I’ve used the dongle in most counties in the country and have found that sometimes the signal will be non-existant but half a mile up the road I’d be able to watch streaming TV – it all depends on the signal!
And to anyone who thinks I work for 3, in the words of Bender from Futurama…..”Kiss my shiny metal ***!” lol. I’m just a user that is technically savvy and one that has worked tech support.
All in all, if you are in an area covered by UPC or Eircom I would suggest getting your broadband from either of them before signing up to a 12 or 18 month contract with 3 (unless you can get a trial from 3 – not sure if they are still doing that). Is always a good idea to research before sigining up to a contract that is a waste of time and money.
A Three Irish customer care person rang me from India today …. unknown number showed up on my mobile …. demanded money from me for 2 months even though I had cancelled direct debit as it was out of contract … put through numerous departments to follow their cancellation process .. involving providing them with the serial number of the free booster they gave because their signal is soooo crap.
I cannot believe the Irish government have paid this company for NBS broadband scheme and never checked the coverage. The service has never worked for me.
They need to provide proper broadband funding to rollout fibre to rural towns as in Northern Ireland.
Three should be told to move their customer care centre to Ireland so Irish customers can be understood and dealt with in a courteous manner … not some Indian ignoramous. Provide Irish jobs for Irish people who have paid for the rollout of the NBS scheme through their taxes.
Who in the government signed of on the final contract for this shit network.
I still dont know if I am cancelled as some muppet has to call to my house to collect the crap booster. I only hope he is not travelling from Mumbai.
Poor quality signal and brutal quality customer service avoid!!!!!!!!!!!
Only that I have to click on a star I wouldnt give them any stars for Customer service
I just got cancelled from them yesterday. To anyone thinking of joining 3 DONT!! They are the worst broadband provider and the signal is not over 1mb no matter where you go. Then after that you might aswel have no contact with them at all because the Indians who call you and demand money or to stay on the contract and renew are blatantly rude. I couldnt afford my bill and I am recently unemployed and waiting on the dole. I tried to explain I was waiting on my backpayment and I would pay as soon as I could but they wernt having any on it. I simply had no money and they told me to go get a job its not that simple in Ireland at the minute and the dole has me waiting 10 weeks now. I got a lend and payed them off just glad to have them off my back. Crowd of hateful ********.
Rubbish!!! very frustrating experience with three broadband. Slow speed and unreliable connection. Unhelpful customers service agents who went through the same steps again and again and reassured me there was no problem with the connection!!! too expensive for what you get.
I am glad to say I am no longer a customer of 3 Broadband. For the 2 years I was with them I rarely had internet that worked properly, always slow or not working at all. When problems occured their technicians advised me to get in my car and drive down the road with my laptop. Now that I have disconnected the service I am am being charged a €15 fee even though I had no broadband service what so ever for an entire 3 months. I disputed the bill with them and have been harrassed by up to 3 calls per day from different agents asking me for the “€15″. Do yourself a favour and go with UPC – excellent broadband service, fast and reasonably priced.
3 have a contract as part of the National Broadband scheme,so they are LEGALLY obliged to supply you the service, and you can request a booster which they will send you if you cant get good reception or need extra reception.
Ending soon thank god I wont be with them much longer. Biggest pile of sh*t ever. Always an Indian calling you and you cant understand them and they cant pronounce your name correctly. Service stops now and again and the Modem is useless and very easily hit and break. Didn’t want to let me leave and I got abuse from some Indian shouting her mouth out at me to get a job to pay my bill for being late on 2 Months out of an 18month contract. Dont go to THREE because they are USELESS believe me the reviews here say it all.
Only two months left on my contract thank god ill never have to deal with 3 again words can’t describe how bad a service this is.If you’re thinking to yourself surely they can’t be that bad STOP right now.A big fat 0 for 3 broadband
Three are a thieving shower of scobes.. I personally would have no problem putting the cubts behind three up against the nearest wall and shooting the lot of them. Hard to find info on just who they are though.
Luckily, I put my faith in natural justice. Therefore I take it as a given that they will suffer.
I blame the government of course who have allowed criminal corporations like three to operate under liscdnce with the full backing of the courts. (ministerial payouts, brown envelopes etc)
Three are scum.
Keep away from three to safeguard your own good health.
I think your man Andy works for three, is he for real or just stupid, Agree with Maureen they are a pack of ******** cop on people they are a waste of time and will ***** you and take the pleasure of having internet away from you. Happy christmas to all at three and may you all rot in hell you shower of *******…
This must be some sort of joke… they are aggressivse rude and do not offer any tech support. They want 150e from me for a phone that would not accept calls and a modem that i reckon was bought from the 2euro store.
What a complete load of nonsense, get stuck with three and they will make your life a living hell. Betterof not having a phone at this rate, cant wait to see how long they wait for payment from me. STAY AWAY FROM THESE SHITE BAGS AND THE SHITE THEY ARE SELLING…I have askedaround and 8 people i know have the same problems as me and have cancelled also. SPREAD THE WORD PEOPLE these bastarrds will bleed you dry and keep coming back for more.
BRUTAL CONNECTION, BRUTAL SERVICE, BRUTAL BROADBAND ,NEED I SAY MORE
After spending 10 years with Vodafone without any complaints I decided to switch to Three 6 months ago because of the All-You-Can-Eat data offer.
So far I am very happy with the service. Average download speeds I get are around 1 – 2mbps. Though they can drop to 0.5mbps and even below occasionally in the evenings. But, understanding the limitations of a mobile network, I can live with this, as the speed is usually at least enough to stream video etc (plus I’m sure the network speed / capacity will be upgraded over time). The highest speeds I get are in and around 3mbps, though I have got 7 – 8mbps at times! Upload speed averages 1 – 3mbps.
Ping ranges from 70ms – 130ms average but it can be higher at times. I have played CoD online on XBox and it is fine, but if you are a serious gamer I would suggest using a DSL or Cable connection as it can lag sometimes, especially if someone else uses the connection simultaneously (even though there could be plenty of bandwidth, it must drive up the ping or something).
I live in Limerick City, so results will obviously vary drastically depending on your location, distance from mast, contention etc. But my experience has been great so far, and the All-You-Can-Eat data is just brilliant.
I have been with three for almost 2 years now and it wasr pretty ok considering nothing else works here. But I wanted faster than 1meg for work purposes. I spoke with a young lady who works for three who informed me that she had a private guy come and install a booster ariel outside her house…..I got the guys number from her and now I sometimes hit 4.5 meg I am thrilled with the service I am getting . Only for three service in my area I’d be still in the dark ages…the guy has a website and trades under the name peter3gsolutions I asked him would I get it much faster s I only had one bar of signal on my modem..he informed me that once I have any three signal in the vacinity of my property inside or outside he could get proper broadband for me. I have to say this was the best investment I ever made.
Three ireland are the pits. I had no service for two or three weeks and kept ringing only to be told it would be fixed soon. I cancelled and stopped my direct debit. they keep sending me bills even though I have cancelled, i have told them and they say they will not send any more but they are absolutely imcompetent, as are their Indian friends at customer servce (don’t get me started), but the bills keep coming.
They rang me three times a day for at least a month, from an unknown number and expescted me to give personal details for security, what about my security, an unknown number can be anybody.
The customer service agents are incomprehensible, ignorant and some are downright rude.
DO NOT GET INTO A CONTRACT WITH THREE!!! You will be sorry if you do.
WESTNET in Mayo are brill!!
I can only agree wholeheartedly with the sentiments of all the disgruntled suckers who have been taken for a ride by the 3 chancers, Having been ripped off by Vodafone I was sold a pig in a poke by 3 who promised me the service I expected. I signed up, got the dongle in the post two days later and it hasn’t worked since. It’s worse than Vodafone (as if that were possible!). When I called 1913 I was given the usual blandishments, (Our engineers have checked the site, there was a problem with the site but it’s been fixed now, you should have a perfect signal blah, blah, blah.). They told me I might need a booster or possibly Satellite, an engineer would call to assess which. Upon investigation it turns out I’m actually in a ‘Blackspot’. No engineer has called and they’re still looking into it. Meanwhile I’m still being charged. When it comes right down to it the responsibilty lies with Pat Rabbitte, the Minister for Communications, Energy and Resources. I would strongly urge all complainants to flood his office with ‘Snailmail’ which thankfully is quite efficient. I am going to instruct my bank not to pay one cent to these crooks and if they wish to take me to court we’ll see exactly who is in breach of contract! I would give you a contact number for myself but it will undoubtly be censored. We should take a class action suit against the Government and 3. Maybe we can find a way to take these people on.
Bad Bad Bad nothing more from three other a completely shite service bad customer service and as for tech support, they told me to hang the modem out the window for a better signal…Honestly. Shower of *****. DO NOT GET STUCK WITH THIS PACK OF ROBBING ********
If only I had found this site before I made the dreadful mistake of acxcepting their broadband ‘service’ (term used advisedly). Like many in Ireland at the moment I’m trying every means possible to cut down on my bills, so in March 2010 decided I could live without my landline service and opted to go broadband instead. I stressed to staff at the Sligo 3 store I only had €40 a month available for an internet service and was recommended to take their mid-prioce service. I was alos told it was virtually impossible to exceed the data allowance and if I did, the service would cut out. A month later when my screen ‘froze’ I found out the truth about their pricing policy and that I had been well and truly duped. After complaining vociferously to the store amanager I paid what I owed (reluctantly) and returned to Eircom as I was so disgusted by what happened. I cancelled the direct debit, complained about misselling to 3′s Dublin HQ, and closed my current account as they tried to take more money from me. This was just the start as I was bombarded day and night with calls from the ‘Indian mafia’ and send further bills. This is despite of me sending letters and so on to all and sundry. In no time atall I was also getting demands from a UK debt collection agency…. On and on it went. A compalaint to Comreg was futile as all 3 did was to speak to the staff in store who said “they followed correct procedures”. No surprise there as it’s unlikely they’ll admit to scamming customers as THEY ARE PAID A COMMISSION ON EVERY SALE!! In order to end this nightmare I have now sought the help of a solicitor who is going to seek a refund and obtain an order prevent enforcement of the contract as it is null and void. As I am still getting invoices and phone calls eash and every day. My advise is go to UTV, fantastic prices, lovely english speaking staff who are friendly and sound like they really appreciate their customers. Why, oh why, did I ever leave them? After dealing with this lot you will never ever moan about Ryanair again!! Truly vile operation with no semblance of a customer service whatsoever.
the network is crap… honest. I have 3 for 6 months into an 18 months contract and i never have 3G – i can see the mobile antennas from my apartment and they say they have to check my phone settings – what bullocks. I have checked it – its simple cause its an iphone and when i switch on my Meteor BB it connects no problem, i surf away..
i should have stuck to meteor for my phone as welll.. well i will migtrate now its not worth the headache bye bye 3 u are crap !
I live in north county Cork. Was originally on O2 which was terrible and only worked upstairs in my house. 3 was an improvement when it arrived. Its not super but it is only €20 per month and it works. Of late I find it slows down on Sunday and Mondays – has anyone else found this??
The speed will fluctuate with downloads as low as .2 Mb/s up to 2.5 Mb/s – which would be good if you could get it constantly. I’ve had upload speeds of 0 to 1.3 Mb/s.
I wish it was a bit more reliable speed wise but from the reviews I’ve read on this site its pretty good for service in country areas.
Great site thanks to all for your reviews
Linda Rezacova 11.10.2011
So my husband bought the mobile broadband just yesterday,29,99E per month direct debit.so as most people wrote the speed is terrible and connection is failing all the time, we went back to shop ,they told us call the CS and get cancellation code,so few calls to costumer service and nobody are authorized to cancel. This is a joke! Would anybody know how to cancel the contract if we are still in 14 days money back guarantee? But they don’t want to here anything about it.Does anybody know which authority in Ireland to contact if they want cancel it in a few days from know.We will keep calling them but I am really worried. Thanks for any info
I signed up to 3 mobile late in 2008. I signed a direct debit to pay the 19.99 each month. Needless to say the service was crap it was slow and often frooze completely. I was very disappointed but since I had signed up for1 year I was stuck with them for the year. In late 2010 I singed up to Eircom broadband and rang 3 to tell them I was no longer using their service. The guy could hardly speak english and I found him hard to understand. He was arrogant and rude and told me that I would have to ring another mumber to cancel the service. I told him I had a years contract and that I was telling him I no longer wanted the service and I hung up. I cancelled the direct debit some time after this.
Now I am receiving bills regularly from them and the india mafia keep ringing sometimes twice a day. Its like dealing with the mafia. I recieved a bill today for over €60. I have tried to get the terms and conditions for 3 broadband on their website and its impossible.
Rating – they are worse than the mafia and dont care about their customers. The men in India are rude and agressive in their manner – rating zero Have nothing to do with these poeople or you will live to regret it.
Advice please – what should I do -to pay or not to pay.
if i could give less i would, all i am told is i have marginal coverage, sone 1 will get back to u in 24 to 48 hours, “but do the” NO NO NO but the keep charging me for nothing i just want something that works 25 to 30% of the time would be nice very unhappy 3 years on…
I live in a remote area in Co Wexford and have tried them all, 3 as mentioned customer service is appaling, I have spent many many hours wasted time with their customer service constantly being disconnected and going days without connection but when I was being asked questions like how thick the walls are to my home how many windows do I have what is in my attic am I facing the mast when I didnt even know where the mast was I thought time to deal with these people right now, don’t be fooled with the 12 month contract rubbish do as I did and tell them your contract is to supply me with broadband and by not doing that you are in breach of your contract and for that reason I will see you in court, they were not long in removing me from their so called contract, the best I think is Vodafone I have had some problems with this but nothing compared to the others it very rarely disconnects, I don’t understand here we are in 2011 struggling to recieve a broadband connection yet on the 3rd November 1957 Laika, a Russian dog, was the first animal in orbit, he died a few hours later from STRESS and OVERHEATING resulting from a failure of the temperature control system. (SORT IT OUT)…
I went with 3 Mobile Broadband in Ballymacool Wood in Letterkenny. Don’t make the same mistake as I did. It has been an absolutely terrible service and to think these guys have the national broadband rights. Am unable to connect half the time, or I keep getting disconnected and the speeds are incredibly slow. Don’t go with 3 broadband, pure crap. I’ve been on to complain to them so many times but to no avail apart from running through the same steps over and over again. They won’t escalate it to their network team as I don’t live in a “National Broadband area”. They tell you they’ll escalate it and then you don’t hear anything for a week and you phone them back and they tell you it wasn’t even escalated. A telephony company who won’t even give you a call. Says all you need to know about their customer service. Oh, and their broadband service is crap too…just in case I hadn’t mentioned that.
0 out of 5 for me on all counts
Have no other choice at the moment, other broadband servers not available in our area. Our connection is so slow . Tried talking to customer service ………….. forget that option. They tried to brain wash…………Madam I assure you I have sorted your problem. It is so stressful trying to communicate with them. I am tied into a contract for 18 months, the joy of it.
No other choice but to use 3 National Broadband Scheme, no alternative in this area, due to hills around the house and no cable Broadband. Continuous variation in speeds or breaking down. Customer Service in India will run you through the same settings changes each time you ring, even though you know this will not improve speed or stop intermittent breakdowns, after about 20 minutes you are still further on.
An hour later things improve for a few weeks, leading you to believe that the signal is increased in certain areas for a while and then you are back to square one.
How much of our money have the Government wasted on this terrible service, how much were 3 paid to provide a useless service by them.
Absolutely useless, dial up would be quicker. Constantly drops connection, and even when it is connected, I’d be quicker walking to a library to search for information rather than trying to surf while connected with 3.
00000 rating for them totally crap..please avoid signing up a contract with 3 broadband.honestly bad connection.you can only get 1mbbps for your download and it is fluctuating.I will never deal with this provider ever again.
Correction: didn’t realize that my marking the stars actually gave them a RATING!!!!
Asolutely No rating at all for this lot . . . .
Absolutely useless! Customer care is non existent, as is your connection. The singular worst transaction I ever made was paying this banana outfit for an internet connection which I NEVER received!!!! I gave them back their ‘dongle’ and told them to ‘shove it’, but only after trying every avenue available to speak to someone in their ‘customer care’ that gave a **** about the fact that I did not receive the product I paid for. Could not find any such person. In fact it was very difficult to speak with anybody at all because of their poor English. All customer care agents I spoke with had a blatantly complacant attitude, some even rude and aggressive, but absolutely never, never in the least helpful. I stopped my direct debit payments to this company after three months without service. This outfit are under the impression that they are entitled to payment for the remainder of my contract (9 months). They still bill me regularly. Avoid these MUPPETS at all costs, they are pure and utter rubbish.
I was with 3 for a year.
Every time I complained they gave me a free month (not that it made the Internet work)
At the end of the year I had complained so much that they actually sent ME a cheque for all the free credits i’d built up.
AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID
Dial up is better than ’3′ TRUST ME.
They’re script monkeys in Mumbai are really annoying.
They know nothing about anything and you’ll get a different answer on each call.
I never want to here “What kind of laptop are you using” ever again.
I don’t even use a laptop !!
Even now two years later I still hate them, but then Vodafone (their replacement) are a slimy bunch of bottom dwellers so probably no better.
I use a usb extension cable.180 cm Monster cable.I made a mini dish antenna from a sieve.I get double th average download speed of up to 4.7mb
i could not even rate this company. they are so hard to deal with. (lets just say my indian is very poor. i have been paying my bill by bank giro every month. as it turns out 3 wont accept this they are insisting i pay by direct debit. i explained to the mullingar store manager i would only pay by giro when i purchased the modem. he was only too happy with this arrangement. now 4 months on i am been persecuted by phone calls and letters demanding payments even though they have recieved my payment every month. this is a joke. in these serious times paying bills by direct debit is madness. we are trying to save money not spent it on charges to the banks who have us on our knees. i really am stressed about the level of harrasement i am getting. im a pensioner and every penny counts. my advise is DO NOT USE 3 BROADBAND. HOWEVER BAD THE SIGNAL IS THE CUSTOMER SERVICE IS THE WORST IN THE WORLD. (was going to say ireland but it in india or mumbai)
Everyone reading this do yourself a favour and stay well clear of 3 broadband it is truly terrible. 3 are by a long long way the worst isp in the country.
All I can say is wireless broadband is only for somebody whos badly stuck for broadband, who arent 100% reliable on it. Its not for high speed internet usage i.e. gaming, constent video streaming. Its for someone who wants to browse fb, maybe download afw songs nn6tting more. I would recomend people not to sign up by contrant with them, as herd aefew storys that their cu**s to get of contract with. Go pre pay I thnk is best. K maybe l6dss GB usage than pay mthly plans. But you keep ur cost monitored. And spend whatever you need. Customer service had ring them afew times over loss of signal etc. There based in india. Hard to understand sometimes helpful other times not. Oh yea they 2could sell ya your own pair shoes to ya ur wearing without ya noticing So be weary of that. Im in Offaly north part. And service in my house is grand. 3,4 hspda bars most time. Once every month or so service could be down for a day or two. Best speed is at night after midnight. during day is mostly shite. Only works fast when ur stationd near window never anywhere else in house due to wall cavitity blockn signal. Make sure to check all the Providers, Vodafone, O2, Meteor before buying. Bought meteor bb stick recently broadband in and arnd Birr area have improved massively over last few mths (June 2011 now) also i hav the E180 dongle 4 both. Great speeds fr
Them had other models speeds were shit compared. Same area an all. Hoped this helped haha.
Living in a rural part of the country here. Have no option but to go with three. They promise 7mb download but I only get 1 at best. Not good enough. Customer service is terrible for dealing with problems. One guy from Mumbai once told me his name was Seamus:-) Although I find when you want to buy something from them, they transform into a model of excellence.
Absolutely AWFUL! I don’t think I can add anything new to what has been written above, just PLEASE don’t believe anything 3 tells you to make the sale. I repeatedly called to complain I couldn’t get connected and repeatedly was told (by someone in India) that there was nothing wrong. I said “How do you know there’s nothing wrong, you’re in India! Come here and check my connection and tell me there’s nothing wrong!”
We moved here from the UK and it’s an absolute DISGRACE how ripped off Irish consumers are for broadband services across the board. €60 a month minimum from Eircom for a service that costs £20 a month in the UK! And don’t get me started on mobile phone charges! We should all RISE UP and DEMAND our broadband needs are met properly and adequately across the entire country and not pay through the nose for it! I love Ireland, I love living here, don’t get me wrong it’s not a criticism of this beautiful country but the shysters and shylocks who think they can wring every last dime out of us without providing a gold-plated service to match.
The only option in rural Westmeath where Eircom refuse to upgrade the exchange to real BB. The 3 dongle is the only option. It works: sort of. 1-2Mbs during the day and 3-5mb at night with a steady 1.5Mb upload. I don’t like it: Our Dublin office has 100Mb UPC fibre system which is no comparision..but hey..I’m out in the 18th century in the sticks.
Its not broadband as we know it Jim but a whole load better than dialup…
Just avoid the Mumbai script monkeys and their disgraceful excuse for customer service.
I have been with 3 for over 4 years and to be fair I’ve never had much of a problem until this week when broadband was shut down. I rang “customer service” in India and was told that I had used up my 15Gb and also a further €70! I don’t know how this is humanly possible.. I rarely download films and never in my 4 years with 3 have I used my 15Gb. Of course on ringing accounts I got to speak to a robot who just repeated “the SIM card shows that you downloaded this and you will have to pay”.
Is there no cap at which info is downloaded?
I have cancelled my direct debit and am contacting Consumer Advice.
Robbers wear masks.
Very poor service, you may get lucky now and again and get a decent speed but overall very poor, if it was reliable it would be quite good value, but as it stands very poor!!
3 are the worst broadband providers ever, their customer service team is a joke, you get put through to people in india/pakistan somewhere like that and the staff are cheeky, unprofessional and annoying and some of them can’t even speak proper english. The download speeds are terrible 0.52 download and 0.04 upload. i like in kilkenny in the city center so you would think this would be much better than this.
The worst internet service. I am living in the countryside but I am about 500metres away from the signal mast so you would think I would get great service. NO I DONT. Speeds of 0.05 download and 0.03 upload are not uncommon the best speed I have recorded is 0.99 download and 0.84 upload.
Customer care is a waste of time its like they are given a script to read from and just repeat this over and over. When I called to complain about my speed I was told I should call them every time I have a speed problem, am I supposed to call them everyday? and spend 15mins on hold listening to the white noise hold music?
My advice stay away from 3
i am currently on a 20euro /month (25GB allowance) plan. i have recently been sent a 55euro bill!upon closer examination, i see i have gone over my monthly limit by 683MB. i watched one film extra on my laptop and it cost me 35euros!! i rang 3 about my dongle not working 3 weeks before this bill, and the lady told me i had reached my limit and it would refresh itself on a new month in a few days. that was fine, but no mention of being 35 quid over the limit. upon ringing 3, i casually get bounced through operators 7000 miles away who don’t seem to give a ****, and respond in condescending manner. apparently its in the “fine print” that i can extend my pay limit to 40 euros, despite me not requesting it, i.e. my max bill can be 40 euros. when i asked them to explain how my bill jumped from a maximum of 40 to 55, they replied “let me make this very simple for you”. apparently its “when the computer generates the next bill” that determines my overall bill, amongst other apparently random variables that they have “no control over”. therefore i can use up my allowance very quickly and add 40euros to my bill if i do it before the next bill generates. i.e. my max bill is now 60euros, not as per small print apparently. their system lag and bill generation procedure is as late as possible to suck you in for more money. this is absolutely disgusting in my opinion. if every MB over the limit is 5cent, the value of my 25GB is a whooping 1280 euros. something is very badly wrong here. on a similar dongle on a prepay option, you would not get a single cent over the money you have prepaid! why is this any different???i asked them to reduce the limit to zero, a perfectly reasonable request, and they said that wasn’t possible. obviously because it doesn’t pay for us to be frugal. i’m absolutely livid with this.
in saying ALL that, despite living in the country, i can stream and watch a film without stopping and the connection is good. it is good value for money, if you don’t step over your limit. (believe me, lesson learned). word of advice though, just don’t bother ringing customer services. they really don’t give a shit about you or their product. who would, being 7000 miles away.
its a shocking bad service, fails to connect, takes forever to load a page, compleatly random as to wheither you have service or not. its guaranteed to go well when its money time but two minutes later its back to slug service. its just a robbery by faceless suits robbing customers and then spouting soft rubbish talk etc. just like the irish banks no come back on their version of organised crime.
I don’t use as my main broadband connection becasue I have had some reliability issues. There are few options in this area so I am reluctant totally ditch a crap Eircom FWA for mail (for which I must have reliability). 3 is good (not great) as an option for more speed (than I have on FWA) but it is still poor in comparision to towns. Living in the countryside you expect to get crap almost everything for more money to their credit at least Three don’t charge more and in my opinion are an acceptable option if not mind boggling brilliant.
3 is getting better but not yet good enough to give me total confidence. Particularly like the ability to use in UK, Italy and OZ for the same cost as home, that is brilliant and also cost effective.
On negative I got hit for a big bill once after I installed Sky Anytime which chewed mega Gigs of data in a month.
Service from India is hopeless! Mannerly but none the less hopless, its a management issue in my opinion – local support is needed or a well documented support section would be better. Dongle drops out if PC is put in Hibernate which needs resetting but unplugging and plugging in again.
Will be grand in a couple of years for now as good as most in a poor marketplace.
3 Broadband should be rebranded 3 DialUp because that’s what it is. My brother is on dial up, and his is sometimes quicker. 3 Broadband drops out frequently, and when it does work, I get a stunningly fast 0.12MB/s download, and 0.06 MB/s upload during the day. My signal is excellent at 4-5 bars HSDPA contantly, which according to 3 Broadband is the quickest data service the modem will get, at UP TO 21.6MB/s. Well they’re not lying though – 0.12MB/s is UP TO 21.6MB/s! The guy in the shop said they will be trying to get to 14MB/s by the end of the year – I’d settle for 5 or 6 MB/s if I could get it. On a 1 minute 36 second Youtube clip, it stopped four times to load more information.
However, there is an upside. the service will get approximately 3-5MB/s dowload, and about 1.2MB/s upload during the night (00:00 to 07:30), when most other people are in bed, so if you have a habit of being completely noctural, this service might just be acceptable for you. I’ve done this a few times, so I know of what I speak. If on the other hand, you like to sleep at night, it’s probably better to avoid 3 broadband altogether. If you are out and about, it might be OK for speed. I got a friend to test out the modem on his laptop in Dundrum, Dublin, and he got 2.79MB/s at 18:00 in the evening.
I too have had the Mumbai experience, but thankfully, 3 Broadband are letting me out of the contract early due to their woefully poor service.
So the moral of the story is:
3 Mobile Broadband might be just enough, if all the planets align, and the moon is just right, when you’re out and about, and you have absolutely no other choice for logging on to the net, and, you have to log on. Speed wise, even at its best during the day, it’s about 1 small step up from the speed of your smartphone (if you have one). I’ve never measured the actual speed on the phone, but it seems only slightly slower. Even then though, 3 Broadband could not be relied on to actually work, or indeed not drop out pretty frequently, and often just at that critical last step when you’re on Ebay. For home use, if you work, or want to do most things on the internet during the night, and are happy to sleep during the day, it might be just about OK to use, but this really depends on your location. My location is rough!
Pretty reliable 2.5 to 5mbs speeds for me but customer service and tech support based in mumbai are poor and ill equipped for questions beyond the basic procedures they have before them. language barrier is an issue with english been spoken poorly and turn around times for tech issues are too long and several times they have failed to call back
overall – avoid mobile broadband unless its necessary
threes mobile service is adaquate at times but it doesnt compare to fixed or fiber
The customer service would be minus multiple stars. Firstly you cannot understand a word they say and then they lie through their teeth to you.
We went over our limit by 1gb, we are on 30gb for approx 28 euro, they charged us 75 euro on top our normal package. I had no idea this was how they operated and it is nothing but a total rip off.
I would advise anybody not to use three mobile broadband, you will be sorry.
I live in Cavan there is no broadband line here and very few options for Broadband. We went with 3 because the offered much better prices than any of the competitors in the area. Big mistake.
So far we have had a lot of problems, we were double charged and have still not gotten the money they owe us back. We were told we would get a download allowance of 20GB (due to being in a national broadband area) however 3 have been giving us 15GB claiming we are not in NBS (trust me, we are). We have been throttled badly, often the down speed drops below 0.2 down and 0.05 up.
The real killer however is the horrible service, we have repeatedly called 3 to sort out these problems the call center in India is no use, they follow what the computer screen tells them to do and you will spend 40 minutes getting transferred between departments, we challenged one on why we hand been charged twice a month and he hung up on us! The people we talk to in Ireland were better for a while however they still haven’t sorted out many problems and have stopped returning our calls.
I have been with many ISPs in my life (mostly when i lived in the UK) but without a doubt 3 are the worst i’ve ever dealt with. Word of warning for anyone considering broadband, don’t make the same mistake as me, avoid 3.
I have the opposite experience to most reviews on this site. I live in rural west Cork where there is no fixed line broadband. I used to have Vodafone’s mobile broadband which was truly awful – slower than a dial up connection when it worked at all. Changed to Three in August last year and am amazed by the performance – average 5Mb/s. It’s real broadband at last. It does disconnect itself a lot if you’re not using it, but on the whole I’m very happy. Three have recently reduced the pay as you go download limit from 10 to 7.5 gigs for 25euro a month which is not cheap. The answer is to pay monthly and get 25 gig for 20 euro which I will do now that I know it works and don’t mind entering into a contract. Hope nothing goes wrong so I don’t experience the hopeless Indian customer service that others complain of!
3 are the worst company I’ve ever dealt with.
They promise speeds of 7.2Mb/sec, I get on average 0.50Mb/sec, going as low as 0.04Mb/sec very often.
They don’t listen.
They are unprofessional.
They are chancers.
Why do ComReg allow them to operate?
I have seen thousands of complaints and ComReg do nothing.
I have had problems for over 6 months and 3 have done nothing. I have a complaint in with ComReg for over one month and they are not doing their job, i.e. legally enforcing 3 to comply with the Communications Act.
Do NOT sign up to 3. If everyone makes a complaint ComReg will be forced to act. There is huge power when people stick together.
3 are an absolute disgrace, what they are doing is illegal. They don’t fulfill their side of their contract and they lure people into false and misleading contracts.
Why is this allowed to happen????
Update on stopping the 3 website from loading at connection. With connect software open, (do not connect) go to SETTINGS>ADVANCED SETTINGS> double click CONNECTIONS>highlight 3G> PROPERTIES>APPLICATIONS tab>click on IE browser>click on delete> click OK and OK and Close. Make sure to click OK both times to exit each step. Now connect and dreaded 3 homepage won’t load.
PS. I’m having the usual problems with 3 broadband tonight!
They don’t even deserve 1 star rating. Works fine sometimes during day. Terrible after 6pm. Stall, slow, drop connection, etc. etc. Have wasted more time on useless calls to customer support, what a joke. Did succeed in stopping the 3 website from loading, but after an uninstall and reinstall of the connect software(on instructions from cus. support) it’s back and the option to stop has gone from the options menu. Customer support keeps insisting it’ my computer is wrong. Now I refuse to change any settings on it, and only deal with them by e-mail. They have sent out engineers on 2 occasions, in the middle of the day of cource when all was running well. Overall it’s a scam. Have 3 months to go in contract and cant wait to tell them to F*** off. Had no other choice for broadband when I signed up but now wired broadband is available.
Three are without doubt the worst company in Ireland to deal with.first off their mobil broadband quite simply does not work in Galway, secondly when this was pointed out to them what followed can only be described as farcical.10 months of phone calls to India.having eventually given up on trying to get them to do anything we stopped paying and returned modem. What followed cN only be described as unbelievable, having agreed the matterwas settled they engaged a debt collection agency to chase “arrears”of 35 euro. They also called at what I can only assume are business hours in India.eventually after 16months they apologised kind of but refused to sedan email saying they don’t do that. I asked if the phonecall was recordedand they told me I kid you not”mind my own business”. You are a disgrace THree mobile and a
Shining example of the absolute disconnect between customers in Europe and call centres in India. You should spend less time spending money sponsoring golf tournaments here and more timeon your clients.
we are on a supposed 9.99 a month package but this month we got a bill for 34e disgraceful
You get what you pay for I suppose!! I’ve had nothing but problems from these guys. My connection was so-so…a little unreliable and pretty slow but I can deal with that!! What I can’t stand is their beyond awful Customer Care. My account was overdrawn so one of my bills didn’t go through, hence I received calls about three times a day for several days and countless letters. When I spoke to them they insisted I pay by Laser and did not seem to understand that I don’t have access to a Laser card. Then they couldn’t tell me how else I could pay and kept insisting I ask someone could I borrow a Laser card.(I had to check the website) Then I was told to pay by 3V vouchers in a 3 store..to the confusion of the 3 manager who said they were just for downloading! I eventually sent off a postal order and got calls every day for the next three weeks insisting they hadn’t got it so I had to pay an 80 euro fee. It wasn’t until I sent them a postal receipt and an email threatening legal action that they suddenly ‘found’ my payment. I continued to get another 80euro fee letter from the debt collectors so I eventually rang them and lost the rag. They never even answered my angry email with an apology.
Slow, unreliable, keeps dropping, if your in Dun Laoghaire avoid like the plague.
i live in carlow and 3 broadband does not work either in town or in tinryland ..when you cancel it (after contract expired ) they will hound you daily from a call center to try and keep you on their books..avoid this at any cost as its not worth it…
I have deliberately given 3 broadband no stars, for anything. I agree, it is a scam. It has been just horrible attempting to use the internet. I have, however, just installed eircom’s wireless broadband, and it’s a dream. Unfortunately, I still have 8 – 9 months left on my contract with 3, (18 mths), and I’m not goingto ComReg – they’re all in it together, just like the bankers, politicians and builders. But I am going to sue them for breach of contract and unfair contract terms – and I’m not going to pay them a penny more.
I agree with all the sentiments expressed about 3. I am currently in contact with Com Reg but I am beginning to believe that Com Reg’s efforts are typically public service style – “who gives a shit anyway !” A concerted effort by the disgruntled persons here should be addressed to the media to shake these people in Com Reg and expose 3 for the Shysters that they are – another UK company ripping us off, not being regulated and running away having stolen our money while being allowed to run amok by an incompetent Regulator. Do we remember Mr Neary the other Regulator who allowed our banks to do the same thing ? Will we ever learn or have the ***** to stand up and deal with these thieves and our regulators who seem to freely collude with them to defraud our decent citizens. My fn blood boils every time I hear one of those caped, tea cosy wearing Mahatmas telling me that the service in my area is fine. Thank you very much please !
Its ok, but that after they installed the external booster on the side of the house to draw the signal into the room i use the computer in. but i reckon I would be limited to just using it in the same room to get the same speeds.
25GB for €19.99 under NBS is not bad compared to other companies since they will supply you with the booster free of charge if needed. I had to go through two other self install internal boosters before they had to come out a install the external one.
I am thinking of getting another contract with them so that I will have 50GB since i tend to download allot more because of the increased speeds and I find it stupid that they can’t add it to the same number.
This service is not properly rolled out yet. It tries to find a 3 base station, when it can’t find one it latches onto an O2 one and then searches again in a few minutes dropping the connection. Speed varies between what you might expect from a 128k ISDN (but without the reliability of same) and an old 14.4k modem from the mid 90s. Deeply frustrating and they make it very difficult to get out of the contract.
All wireless internet is shit, but 3 are the least shit of them all… but still shit.
I signed up with 3 3 weeks ago, we where really happy with it, until I checked our usage 4 days ago. We had gone over our usage by 20 euro! So i was a little annoyed and talked to my house mate about it. We had both been watching shows online and had skype calls so we thought it was down to this and decided no to do that until next month that we would just be careful not to go over our usage again.
However my house mate wasn’t feeling well and decided to watch one episode of Glee from channel 4. (fair enough i though sure its only a few euro) ONE EPISODE COST US 50EURO!!!!!!!!!!!)
And she didnt even finish watching the whole thing. 50 EURO!!!!!
so we are 3 weeks into our contract and terminating it today, they can take us to court if they want there is no way that can be justified. pure robbery.
although to be fair it is fast and reliable but i live very close to dublin.
Wrote a long review but lost if when connection dropped .
Three crap ,has been for 2 years cancellin tomorrow.
DONT DARE SUBSCRIBE least you love HARDSHIP AND S**T
I used 3 Broadband when I was at college and it was ok in the city, got around 6Mbps max, but downloads were terrible but I really expected this.
Note to people intending to buy this kind of internet
IT IS NOT MEANT FOR DOWNLOADING/YOUTUBE/GAMING ETC. It’s meant for on the go internet, the companies are just pawning it off as home broadband when it really isnt. It’s meant for laptops, not home computers. (ok, maybe if you’re in the city, but then you’d have reg bb.
Anyway, it’s meant for normal browsing, and they gave me 3months free because the modem wasnt working for 3 months. So good on them, I’m still with them, my second year, since Im still a student all Im paying is a tenner a month on top of eircom 66 p/m 7mb. So 77p/m for 2 broadband services aint too shabby (thats with phone)
ANYWAY, yes, get them if you’re a student, and if you arent a student and live in the country or cant get reg bb, MOVE HOUSE BECAUSE IT’S NOT FOR YOU IF YOU WANT REGULAR BROADBAND.
AVOID 3 BROADBAND!!!
JUST SAY NO!
I live in Letterkenny, Co. Donegal. I got 3 broadband (pay monthly, €25) about a month ago. All I can say is, what a WASTE!
Its slower than dial up.
It often disconnects or just won’t do anything.
It wont even load games (facebook type stuff).
Downloading takes forever.
If it were faster and not awful in every way, it would be amazing. My phone is better than it. I was told by the guys in Currys that they have had several people in talking about how bad it is.
My friend got meteor (similar plan) and hers seems MUCH faster than mine. And it actually loads things. I’ve not heard good things about other mobile internet providers, but I think I’ll give one a go.
ANYTHING WOULD BE BETTER THAN 3!
I am living in Kilkishen Co Clare and cannot get eircom or any other broadband to work trust me have tried them all, I then got 3 wireless modem the one thats about the size of a phone stuck it to the side of the window and bingo I always get speeds of 2.6-4.7 mbps and can download an 800 mb movie in 45 mins, I cannot complain I think its really good and I can also use the wireless feature with my laptop or i phone or Xbox etc. 10 out 10
i have been in contract with 3mobile for the last eleven months only 30 days to go…there customer service agents dont understand that when you say you are cancelling your contract,,,,your telling them not asking can you leave please…the service is at best slower than dial up thats when it can stay connected for more than 3 minutes…waste your money on buying betamax tapes to play on your bluray player more chance of it working
After 1.5 years i canceled my 3 broadband and they are asking E13!! For WHAT ? Idiots … it was very slow, but i though it’s my only option. I went to O2 recently and I took student broadband for E10 and it’s much more better. Never ever with 3.
I was told my area was covered under the NBS. I thought Great! So I went out and got Three’s mobile broadband package.
I’ve had it over a week now and will be bringing it straight back. It’s an absoulte joke! THe speeds are so slow and it just keeps dropping out every few minutes (the most annoying part of this is when it connects again it keeps opening up the Three website! arrrrghh).
I cannot believe that my area is covered under the NBS, if this is supposed to be the best service I can get. I’m currently on Vodafone broadband which is not great, but compared to Three it’s streets ahead.
The only good thing about Three is the 15GB download, but I think it would probably take 3 months of downloading to get to this limit with the current speeds.
AVOID THIS PACKAGE!!!
apsaloute shite dats al i wanted 2 say
We are fortunately cancelling this service at last. Not reliable, VERY slow, very often not accessible at all. And I won’t say anything about their customer service because I would need to swear.
I’ve been using the 3 pay as you go broadband now for a couple of months. When i was testing it out, it was very good, but as soon as I signed up for it, the standard dropped dramatically. It now reconnects every 2 minutes at least. It is also extremely slow, so i can forget about downloading anything or even watching anything on rte iplayer.
The other annoying thing is that everytime it reconnects, the three website opens, so I could end up with about 50 of these pages open and I have to keep closing them. DON’T GO with three, whatever you do.
I tried out O2 last week, and it was much much better, but then that was just a trial also, so that might be just as bad if you sign up to it.
well … I’m one of the fortunate users of the Sky version of 3′s broadband. I have to say that so far it wasnt bad (obviously good looks different)
I had twice so far a complet outage of the service while the modem couldnt even connect to the satelite anymore. Since yesterday now I have the incredible speed of about 4kb/s (reminds me on the good old days 10 years ago).
I had several dealings with their customer service and must say it is behond bad (hence no rating at all). They managed to f*** up my direct debit twice and insited they actually went in for the money when clearly they didnt. I’ve been offered twice a call back from the Tech people yet havent received a single one of them (first one was about 4 weeks ago).
All in all I think the idea is good but the execution is terrible, three could be the market leader as they have the technology and money but it seems their concept is just to make a few euro now without interest in the long term customer relationship.
Sad .. really sad
Two words -Absolutely Terrible
I got this initially because I had no landline and the Three/Vodafone/O2 broadband modems were the only other option available to me other than getting a landline in. I went with threebecause they had a decent data cap and were the cheapest (turns out you get what you pay for).
I am an IT engineer and I am on call 24/7 twice a month. In short I need a reliable service. I have had to drive into work on many occasions to deal with call outs when I should have been able to take care of them from home – if the bloody broadband was working. On other occasions I’ve had to delegate high priority calls to colleagues loosing my callout fee. Broadband being down while browsing facebook is very annoying but when you need it for work and it regularly costing you money really makes your day.
I live in an urban high density area so coverage should not be an issue, I am actual shocked that this crowd was awarded the Rural broadband scheme
What have I done ……. Canceled my service, better half has cancelled hers (once our contracts expired), ordered a line in, getting ASDL.
Oh by the way using my Vodafone mobile as a modem, seems to be fine but still don’t trust mobile broadband.
They should rename their service ’3 sh**eband’! Have it nearly a year now, spent numerous phone calls with foreign people in call centres I could not understand, because the signal suddenly drops without warning. I rely on broadband for work as I work remotely and on the road, it is totally inadequate to have your broadband to go down for hours at a time. When it is working, dial up would be faster! Gave my 30 days notice to cancel today and she asked if i had a problem with it!!! PROBLEM!!!!! Too fecking right I have a problem with it!!! Also this phone call took me at least 20min to it cancelled after first being kept on hold for 15min by the Indian contact centre. I feel sorry for anyone who has to work there as they sure as hell would have to put up with some abuse from disgruntled customers who have been hoodwinked into a contract!!!! I’m nearly FREE!!!
3 Broadband service….IS A SCAM BIG TIME !!! PLEASE BE CAREFUL AND STAY AWAY FROM THEM ….EVEN IF IN YOUR AREA SPEED COULD BE BETTER….BE AWARE THAT THEY ARE STILL SCAMING AT SEVERAL THOUSANDS OF DECENT PEOPLE….SOME SOLIDARITY PLEASE….!!!!!
I was thinking strongly to switch over from Lastmile broadband to 3 because of the money. Now I am seriously tinking not to go for it. I live in the west, rural (Sligo). any suggestions any one?
a ******* joke….stay well clear of these unreliable cowboys!!
just finished with 3 after a year of trouble with their mobile broadband ‘service’.Appalling is the only word that I can use to describe it. The worst customer service…ever!I had my wifes and my mobile phone on contract with them also and cancelled that with them too in protest. When I called to let them know I was cancelling they asked why.I explained the many reasons and was met with silence on the line. I would also advise to turn down any offer of not charging you for x amount of time, its a fob off, they still charge you.AVOID AT ALL COSTS..
dont know how alot of people on this are having all this trouble with the 3 service im using it now for the past year it hasnt been great but they upgraded the network in my area so im getting speeds of 150kb/s which isnt bad compared to eircoms starter internet can only get 107kb/s pnly annoying thing is that the customer services are based in india!! overall its grand to use for wireless 3G !!dont know why ur all expecting a very fast service this is the best your gona get !!
if i could have given no stars it wouldn’t justify my annoyance with 3. crap is the best word i could use to describe it. extremely slow, and dont even get me started on the evening times when obviously the internet is used most often… 20 mins just for a page to upload and this is only the beginning, 2hrs to reload and send an email!!!!!!!! its ridiculous. and customer service, they don’t understand English and i cant understand Indian either. they changed or upgraded the service as they called it mths ago, but its been unbelievably slow since then, but try ringing anyone…its a no-go area!! if i could break the contract, it would make my day!!
Three’s mobile broadband service at the moment the only choice available to me!
There is days when download speeds are over 1.50mbps (e220)
but then there’s others when you get .60 mbps (e220)
My upload is always at .06 mbps! which I may add as very annoying for uploading photos etc ..
There monthly data allowance is the best 15gb part about the isp. And the fact its €19.99 a month
I had there e220 modem until a few days ago now! Now i have a e1550
Speed’s have deteriorated ever since the purchase. Never hit 1.50mbps yet but on the last modem it was frequent enough! This modem isn’t even on there website ( thanks carphone warehouse )
For reliability… well i have Internet everyday .. What i really mean by this is that threes coverage is quite good.. but what speed you get is a different story unfortunately.
Customer service…pff… Its not near Ireland.. off in timbuktu!
i don’t wanna seem like an auld crab continuously giving out about three but its the experience I’m having with them.. It may be just where i live… i don’t know!
even though the nbs plan covered my area so far no improvements have been made but we’ll see !
As i said before they value for me is the 15gb allowance .. and the fact its €19.99 a month
i needn’t go into it all thats been said before
but i’ll add that they charged me 25 for a replacement modem that I didn’t receive after many hr long chats with indians called billy and jack, they usually took an hour or so and it just went round in circles, so when i didn’t get the modem I didn’t have the energy to contact them again
best thing to be said is that they’re cheap if ur mvin round a bit and u can download up to 10 Gbs, don’t go over tho or they’ll get ya
all in all best avoided
I am with 3 over 6 months now. I live in rural Donegal and find the service quite good. It may not be the fastest but it is my only option apart from Eircom dial up.
I bought their new “7.2mbps” modem and instantly regretted it. Took it back for a refund the next day after clocking the speed at 36KBPS. Customer service was awful, no apology and I’m still getting bills from them. AVOID THREE BROADBAND AT ALL COSTS.
Have been good for me in rural Cork county (even customer service)… Until something happened to the base station, a week ago. No explanation, no timeframe for ongoing works at the base station. There is no mentioning of that on the website at all. Thinkin of early termination…
Really slow but its kinda fast
three ireland is a scam,
their is nobody working for the company in dublin,
the call centre is based in india,
and dont know when the service is on or off,
all the tell you is its been fixed, they are a scam, go to comreg and get your contract broke as they sign it not you, so with out your signature its worth nothing
dont sign up to 3 ireland, its a scam to take your money
I’m using 3 broadband in Tralee, and it’s the worst I’ve ever had, slower than dial-up most of the time. The connection randomly breaks, and takes hours or days to turn back on again.
The price (20 euro) might be appealing to many, but you get what you pay for. I haven’t tried ringing customer service (based in India, apparently), but everyone else says it’s awful, so I won’t bother.
The worst broadband in Ireland.
STAY AWAY FROM 3
this is worst than the old dial-up conections…i really don’t know how they are getting away with calling it broadband…it worked ok for the 2 week trial than it just dropped to very very low speeds. it use to take me literally almost 5 minutes just to acces my e-mail account, and when i rang the customer service the answer was invariably the same: technical difficulties in the area…at some point i was told that i am not in a 3G area but in a 2,5G area…these people will tell anything to get you off the phone. also i found the customer support people to be rude.
i cancelled the service after 1 year and i was told i must give them 30 days notice to do that (and of course they want to charge you for those)…altogether IT WAS A VERY BAD EXPERIENCE. STAY AWAY FROM 3.
I moved to 3 from O2 thinking that their service couldn’t be any worse, how wrong i was!!! (Sidenote: to get out of a 12 month contract with O2 or 3, first of all complain to your ISP by email a couple of times and then complain to COMREG and ask for their help, tell them how bad the service is, ComREG in turn will contact the ISP on your behalf which should result in the ISP terminating your 12/18 month contract). Anyway back to 3, service is apalling, connection drops so frequently that i have got to the stage of actually banging my fist on my computer monitor (it helps – you should try it!). Bad and all as O2 was it would not disconnect as often as 3 does. i live in the Letterkenny area and i am quite near the 3 mast on mountain top so i have a very strong broadband signal, 5 bars most of the time, but this does not seem to help things at all. As for their customer service, its bad, really really bad. Its very hard to get help from a customer service rep when they can hardly speak English. Why they were awarded the broadband contract for Ireland is beyond me. And a customer service centre based in India!! WHAT THE HELL!!! When i purchased my 3 contract in Letterkenny, i asked to test it in their shop, and would you believe it, they dont actually have broadband access in the shop!!!! This should set off ALARM BELLS for anybody thinking of purchasing 3 broadband. I mean if 3 broadband was as good as they say, they why the hell dont they have a display model in their OWN shop!! Oh yeah the TRIAL PERIOD: i read “Deputyjk’s” review below and i have to agree with you. For some suspicious reason the trial period was flawless, speeds were fantastic, connection was great, it rarely dropped!! However its only after the trial period experies that problems (major problems) arise!! Coincidence? I don’t think so!!! (I had the exact same experience with O2) . I thought it was just me until i read “Deputyjk’s” review. Long story short, O2 is bad but 3 is just apalling!!
this ISP is a disgrace. not only do they not provide the service they promise, they also treat your request for cancellation (after the mandatory contract has already been served) as an act of insanity. Long story short, they did not cancel my contract when i asked them to, they reversed the decision on my behalf (how nice of them). It was only after a series of screams and shouts and the use of the word “ComReg” that they backed off and cancelled the account for me without trying to charge me. I have seen posts on various sites around the country with people experiencing the exct same problem. They know full well that what they are doing is illegal. Yet they still continue to operate.
Stay well away!!!
I’d also like to congratulate Luke (the reviewer below me) for his mediocre and transparent attempt at astroturfing. Your bosses at Three must be very proud.
Overall I find them good enough better than O2 and Vodafone. Other posts here give me the impression that they seem to be the Customers who just like to complicate things. Its slow sometimes but like all broadband wireless on fixed it all depends how many are online and the weather conditions.
3 OK service ,Good value for money, Excellent Customer Care.
02 Well it looks good on paper their performance is a disaster. Hidden cost too if your not careful
Vodafone Pure Dirt OVERPRICED but what else is vodafone famed for.
The best speed I got was 3.3mbps my adverage is 2.5 sometimes higher sometimes lower.
Very poor service, drops like a stone frequently. Software difficult to use let alone understand. Topping up procedure seems easy ut in fact is a farce. How our Government awarded this shower the award to distribute broadband to those parts of the country without broadband is beyond me! Also why have a call & tecnical centre in India. SAys a lot about the crap service. To be fair when broadband is available -on the train its notbad but a total fiasco at home. Thank God I only have top up service. O2 by the way is crap in East Meath as well. Thumbs for Vodaphone although they are miserable with their 5gb per month.
SHocking performance. Impossibly slow and unreliable. Hence I got a download optimizer. I ran over my download limit and the software despite having a display labeled current usage did not show me my usage until I’d run up 50Eur extra. When I queried why I’d not been alerted to my usage and why I was being charged without first being told about my usage they refused to comment adequately except to say that the software doesn’t automatically update! 3G it is not, despite calling itself that. If the modem makes a 3g connection it almost immediately drops it and the only way to get any connection is on the hdma connection. When I asked what the contention ratio was on this service before buying it they couldn’t tell me, said I’d have to call the premium cost technical help line. I should have seen the warning signs. The modem software bundled with the package is unreliable and the call center is terrible. When I complained and asked to terminate my contract they insisted I pay up the total contract years costs in advance, which was about 10months at 20Eur a month so I’m still with them for another few months.
Absolutely awful, after 18months I have finally lost it and I am thinking very much about changing. Where to start..well as in other reviews the speed is terrible, it constantly disconnects, rarely do you get a decent service, the call centre is a joke and what is even funnier is that they rang telling of how they are going to upgrade the service to 7mb from 3mb for free and you get a free phone if you want that will only cost €20 a month extra…notice something wrong with that!!! thinking of ntl ,I have heard of some problems but to be honest my old dial-up was quicker than this…Avoid for the sake of your wallet and mental health!!!
very bad download(0.8M on good day) and upload speed. Keeps disconnecting. There customer service is very bad….stay well clear of these, you can’t break your one year contract either. If I could give zero stars I would.
Me again. Spoke too soon about 500kbits…
for the last 2 weeks, it has dropped to < 50kbits on the download.
Switching to O2 to see if they are any better.
Shockingly Awful. Had a 14 day trial in whick speed was ok at 600 – 700 kbs. As soon at trial was up speeds droped to 30 – 40 kbs, if you could connect. Despite several calls to call center in India!!!!!!!!! no change. Just fobbed of by customer service saying “technical difficulties today”. If I said I had a problem since last week “technical difficulties all week”
Bought the O2 modem this week and much better service. 1 – 2 Mbs. Thats 50 times faster! I called three to cancel and I am locked into giving 30 days notice (have it 16 months) even though I cant connect at all. I couldnt connect for the past 2 weeks. I asked how can you hold me to the contract while three are in breach of contract by not providing the service. This did no good as you are just dealing with an idiot in India who is reading form a script.
Three are the worst company I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with. I am refusing to pay the rental for the next 30 days as I cant connect anyway but three said I have to and will be billing me anyway. Looking forward to the debt collectors now!!!!!
What a company!!!
