Absolutely useless service. I was promised 1mb speeds but I might as well have not had the service at all as it was so bad that I wasted most of my time waiting for web pages to load. In the evenings you can forget about trying to go online. It slows down to a crawl and dial up would be just as fast. The customer service reps. have no clue at all. And they are not to slow to threaten you with all sorts of letters if you tell them that you will not pay if the service is not up to scratch. In short I would advise anyone interested in subscribing with clearwire to give them a wide berth and try someone else. F.Y.I. I was subscribed in Maynooth, Kildare.

have clearwire, is great, would never go back to Irish Broadband, good speeds and good ping times.
The speed I subscribed to is their 2Meg connection.
I did a speed test and noticed that I get roughly between 2M and 2.4M at different times during the day.
I subscribed to Clearwire after seeing this poll. The speeds are what they are advertised as. I am going to try it out for a bit longer to see what the story is.

When the guy first came to our home to help set up the system he kept avoiding my questions and focused his attention to my father who is old and has no idea about internet or how it works. Of course he stressed how inexpensive it would be, and yes that may be the case it is inexpensive but it also takes way longer than he showed us it would to get online and everyone that calls us says that no one at home is picking up their calls. Oh, I forgot to mention that in the 3rd week of the first month I was with them (while I was on holiday) I received a letter from their debt collection agency saying that I would be in real trouble if I didn’t pay that first month. So they are quick with threatening their customers…
My download speed: 0.2 Mb/S
My upload speed: 0.06 Mb/S
ping (the quickest): 151 ms (to a server in Dublin)
And I live around the corner of one of their masts
Final note: I run a call centre myself; if I would get word that any of my agents was as rude to a customer like some of the agents of Clearwire have been to me (one even insinuated that, since I was a foreigner, I didn’t have a clue about how things here in Ireland work! If this is the way CS works in Ireland, I pity the Irish…), he/she would get at least a warning or even could get fired.

Clearwire is no doubt the worst ISP in Ireland. You can’t do anything with it and I missed out on a couple of great opportunities simply because the connection is either too slow or breaks down (happens on average 5 times each day). I live in Dublin 1 and I would’ve gotten NTL but NTL/UPC doesn’t cover the North Side of the City Centre of the capital of Ireland (!!!). I needed some Inet solution pretty quick as I need it for my work, so I couldn’t wait for 4 weeks to get a phoneline and then get a Smart or Magnet connection, so Clearwire seemed feasible as they promise to send you the modem the next day. This was indeed the case, but it didn’t work. Then followed what I would call “the helpdesk episode” in my Clearwire adventure. The modem didn’t work: all lights were burning on the modem and I checked if the pipeline from my computer to the modem was ok too. It was. And you can be sure I checked everything thoroughly; I have been working in IT and with Internet for nearly 20 years now. So there was connection from my pc to the modem and from the mast to the modem, yet I didn’t have Internet. So one can say that somewere between those two there was sth wrong. The modem. So I called the helpdesk. It took me two weeks of calling and CONSTANTLY hearing thing varying from either the helpdesk agent insinuating I’m an ignorant idiot with no clue of IT or simply: “they’ve changed sth here, just reboot the modem and it will work” or “nah, I don’t think the problem is on our side. You say you have two different OS’es on your computer? Don’t you think there may be some conflicts there?” No, there are no conflicts – ever heard of dualboot? And why has it always been working and NOT with Clearwire? Anyway, after two weeks of spending about 40 Euros in callcredit I finally got an decent agent on the phone who actually called me back like he promised (I’ve been promised a callback for about 6 times until then, but none of the agents bothered to call me back when I was at home). This agent was good: he didn’t go through all the standard tests that I’ve done about 250 times before; he just said that he wanted to test one more thing before he could send me a replacement modem. He called me back as promised and I received the new modem the next day. Only thing was that I was going on hols that next day and I informed his colleagues of this. So the new modem sat there for two weeks, but finally two days after I returned I got my new modem, one month to the day after I subscribed fo the service.
The horror doesn’t stop there. Oh, the modem worked, but guess what the first thing was that I saw once connected? Right: “your service has been disconnected due to an outstanding bill.” Well, I didn’t receive any service from them the first month, so I wasn’t going to pay for that month. So I called again. I informed them of everything and they said: you will get a refund, but you have to pay first. Needing Internet, I paid the next day and then I found I got a refund of FOUR Euros. They said the first month was only for one Euro, so they couldn’t give me a full month back. Although this meant that I didn’t get the introduction offer (after all, I got no service whatsoever the first month), I agreed with this. For Heaven’s sake, get this thing working so I can finally start working again.
Yet even then the horror wasn’t finished. A few days later I got a call from Clearwire saying that they accidentally took the 183 cancellation fine from my bank a/c. But they would put it back into my a/c; it would take 10 working days to do so. Hm. 10 days? It only took a few seconds to take it out…But ok, they admitted their fault and they would send it back. A few weeks later I checked my bank a/c and the 183 Euros were NOT sent back. So I called again. They informed me that they had put it into my Internet a/c and wouldn’t have to pay for the next few months. Hey, but that’s not what the guy told me on the phone! Yeah, well, if I wanted it into my bank a/c I would have to file for it and it would take 3 to 4 weeks. So, in other words, they decided that I would stay with them for a while and decided as well to charge me upfront for half a year…
I’ve been having this “broadband” connection for over half a year now and the dial-up connection I had in my home country some 12 years ago was quicker than this one. ISDN was even much quicker than this crap. Summarizing: they deliver standard dial-up speeds and sell it as broadband, their helpdesk is a joke (I only give one star for the guy who really wanted to help me) and I feel that they deliberately cut me off at times from my connection, causing me to miss out on great opportunities. I have now ordered a phone line from Eircom and as soon as I have that, I will order ADSL from either Smart or Magnet. Had such a connection before and I had no probs with that. Since the cancellation fine with Clearwire is just about as much as the amount I would pay if I would continue the “service” until my year-contract expires, I will remain subscribed until the contract is over and quit it as soon as it is. It makes financially no difference whatsoever. I definitively DON’T recomment Clearwire. Just wait for the two to four weeks it takes you to get a decent ADSL connection – it’s just as expensive as Clearwire, but you get so much more bandwidth so de facto it’s cheaper.
Sorry for the long story, guys, I just had this on my chest for such a long time before I found this site, I just had to get rid of it…Thanks.

useless the slowest internet i ever had i cant even do anything on it. im just im paying money to have to the modem in my house thats all
I live in the Dublin city centre and I pay € 39.50 monthly for the connection but unfortunately the speed I get is not as promised 2.5 MB but 0.2 MB Download and 0.06 upload. Although to be fair clearwire has a great customer service I recently broke my modem and called the customer service and I got a brand new modem two days later exactly on time.
If had never come across such a terrible ISP for such an enormous price. Dial-up connection will get 5 stars for me comparing to this piece of crap. I ordered eircom phone line activation for free ( Worth : €128 ) and I’ll be getting the Smart Telecom 7 MB package.
AVOID AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE !!!!!!

Very annoyed with Clearwire right now. They’ve been taking €49.95 out of my account ever month since I setup with them in 2005. Their prices for my package dropped to €39.95 over a year ago, but guess what, they kept charging me at the higher rate. Seemingly it’s MY fault for not coming back to them about it! That’s rich considering the stopped emailing m invoices a year after I setup with them. If anybody out there has been a customer for a while – CHECK THEIR NEW PRICES. Or more to somebody else.

Clearwire is providing me miserable bandwidth albeit at a fairly low cost. Sometimes BW is meeting their 6MB/s and most of the time it is not. Their business practices are suspect in that they do not freely tell the customer what the issue is and then the problem is magically fixed.
Their customer service personnel are nice on the phone, but the communications about the solutions provided are downright horrible.
I have had Clearwire for 3 years now. I live in Dublin 1. The lights on the modem have always been 5 (max) and the speed has always been 2-2.5 Mbps (Im paying for 2) so im getting value for money here. I had other providers but they were pretty bad. overall – clearwire 10/10. Thanks

We got this before the advent of mobile broadband and at the time was the quickest route to internet connection. It is not the cheapest option. In over two years of use there has been only one time when there hasn’t been a service and that was for an eight-hour period. It is generally reliable. I use it for research mostly, basically viewing pages online. I don’t know how it would be for online gaming etc. I have used it to watch youtube videos and it was fine. It’s also useful in that it is mobile – as long as the place you’re going to has clearwire coverage.

This is worse than 56k dial up. They lock you into a contract too!!!
Iworked for best buy and i sold this product to at least 200 or so people and made clear wire ALOT of money, and i was treated like dirt,
First off my modem quit working and for 3 months i was using my neighbors unsecured wireless without knowing. when they moved away i had no more internet so i called clear wire and they told me the last packet was sent over three months ago.. most likely due to failing hard ware. so i brought up a claim trying to get a credit for the 3 months i had paid for.. the dude on the phone had basically called me a liar and stated i was trying to fraud the company with a loop hole. he said he would send me a new modem. i agreed.
a week later i called clear wire wondering where the modem was and a lady said i had declined the modem and low and behold my account was charged AGAIN!! i began to get furious… and on top of that she said my claim was denied due to the fact i didn’t know my modem wasn’t working even they had proof of the last packet that was transmitted.. so i requested a new modem again…(I canceled my debit card after this phone call) another week went by and i had still not received a new modem… i then started receiving a call a day from clear wire trying to get money out of me. i finally raised all hell and was put on hold for 45 min and a nice gentleman by the name of Billy in Las Vegas helped me by sending me a new modem and crediting my account… All in All it was very stressful and if it weren’t for Billy I’d have turned them into the better business bureau.

I am not as disappointed in the Broadband provided by Clearwire as the previous 6 individuals who posted a review. I live in Drogheda. I have had Clearwire for over one year now. Installation was provided the day after I ordered it, and didn’t require any drilling either inside or out. It’s just a Modem that needs to have a line of sight with the base station transmitter. I have good signal strength where I live…always 5 green lights on the Modem. I am paying €39.95 per month for a 2Mbps max download speed. My main issue with Clearwire is, however, how slow downloading Mp3’s or YouTube videos becomes at peak times i.e say 4pm- 8pm (I think the kids downloading stuff after school may explain this, but it is frustrating). Early in the morning or late at night is no problem, I will often achieve the max. speed.
To sum up: I find the service reliable and only once did it fail for most of one day. I would have to recommend them personally, but the reviews of others should also be considered. Good luck.

Shocking company. Some of the worst broadband (and I use that word advisedly) experiences I have ever had. I live in South Dublin City (hardly the middle of nowhere) and the quality of the signal was apalling. I have switched over to Chorus NTL and now it is all fine. Finally, the worst thing in a litany of horrible experiences was that they kept charging me for months after I asked them to disconnect. Terrible, terrible experience. Do yourself a favour and don’t have anything to do with this company.

I’m living in Dublin 9 and find the signal varies from poor (2 bars) to moderate (3 bars). The supplied box was withdrawn due to it being faulty and we had to wait a month to receive the replacement box… customer service is pretty poor too (1 bar). Will be looking into alternative broadband provider as 12 month contract ends soon.

I’ve used Clearwire in Dublin 2 for a year or so. It’s ok, though perhaps a bit pricier than other wireless providers.
Sometimes it can be agonisingly slow, but generally it’s fine. There can be an appreciable lag on some VOIP conversations, that I am fairly sure is caused by Clearwire. Aiming the directional unit carefully usually achieves 4 out of 5 bars or reception, though I have a feeling that degrades in when it is rainy. Opening the window gives a performance boost.
The Max Planck Institute For Software Systems has a ‘Test your broadband’ Java tool that easily gives some comparable figures for the device’s performance: http://loki08.mpi-sws.mpg.de/bb/bb.php
* Downstream Bandwidth: 489 Kbps * Downstream Queue: 194 ms
* Upstream Bandwidth: 60 Kbps * Upstream Queue: 50 ms
It’d be interesting to know what performance other wireless providers give…
Clearwire was our only option in the middle of Waterford City. Easy to setup, fairly reliable and fast enough at the time. The modem had to be positioned “just so” to get a good signal.
They can’t be beaten on ease though. You order the box and it arrives the next day. You unpack it, give it power and you are online. This is very different from fixed-line operators and even another wireless broadband we tried. If you need broadband quickly then Clearwire do it well.
Unfortunately after we moved and had cancelled our Clearwire account we found they were still charging us. For several months they ignored our calls, emails and letters until eventually they stopped the debit order. We never got refunded.
Used to have Clearwire and they were the cause of all grey hairs. It hardly ever worked and when it did it was slow. Eventually i had to stack it on top of books on my window sill to get a signal. Support would be funny if it wasn’t so bad. I once rang to tell them that the service was slow(again) and was told it wasn’t, that in fact my ‘broad’ band was working perfectly. I assured them that it was slow, but they just diddn’t believe me???? Pigeons send mail quicker than these guys.

THE WORST INTERNET IN IRELAND
Clearwire Review by J.K., November 13, 2009
I live in the Dublin city centre and I pay € 39.50 monthly for the connection but unfortunately the speed I get is not as promised 2.5 MB but 0.2 MB Download and 0.06 upload. Although to be fair clearwire has a great customer service I recently broke my modem and called the customer service and I got a brand new modem two days later exactly on time.

I have the 2.5 MB package for €40 a month. The speed is , well see it yourself http://www.speedtest.net/result/599602456.png

I am eager to dump this and try another provider

Clearwire Review by Kris, March 18, 2009

Sorry I didn’t rate them….! Here goes.
Clearwire Review by Michael Kelly, January 29, 2009

The Max Planck Institute For Software Systems has a ‘Test your broadband’ Java tool that easily gives some comparable figures for the device’s performance:
http://loki08.mpi-sws.mpg.de/bb/bb.php
* Downstream Bandwidth: 489 Kbps * Downstream Queue: 194 ms
* Upstream Bandwidth: 60 Kbps * Upstream Queue: 50 ms
It’d be interesting to know what performance other wireless providers give…
Clearwire Review by Paul M. Watson, October 29, 2008
Clearwire Review by Conor, October 29, 2008
Used to have Clearwire and they were the cause of all grey hairs. It hardly ever worked and when it did it was slow. Eventually i had to stack it on top of books on my window sill to get a signal. Support would be funny if it wasn’t so bad. I once rang to tell them that the service was slow(again) and was told it wasn’t, that in fact my ‘broad’ band was working perfectly. I assured them that it was slow, but they just diddn’t believe me???? Pigeons send mail quicker than these guys.
