Review by Ann, April 12, 2012

Had to use Ripplecom for several years, as where we live could not get anything else. Constantly down, spent hours waiting to speak to Customer service, whenever there were problems you could be guaranteed not to get anyone to answer.
Blamed my router at one stage, bought a new one, still a problem. The only thing that ever worked properly was the billing, money debited from account every month on time.
Engineers were terrible and did not care whenever they came out, would have to check that they fixed the problem, often not working again after they left
Often down for days on end, and if went down on Friday, you could be guaranteed would be Monday or Tuesday before they even start looking at problem
Really frustrating
Worse thing was they decided to decommission broadband in our area, got a months notice by letter and was left high and dry !!!

with amacom/ripple now nearly 5 years as couldn’t get any provider in our estate and i am so looking to june when my subscription is up as bye bye ripplecom as thank god we can get more internet providers at last…moving to Nova and don’t know why i didn’t know about them years ago…..Ripplecom has bad customer service/internet not working most days and when u try to ring and complain attitude by some of the customer care a disgrace and you could be waiting up to half hour to an hour on the phone trying to get through…when it was Amacom they had great engineers and customer service ( Maire ) but went all down hill when Ripplecom took over…and now they are capping usage and bumping up prices…wont be renewing with them come June and will be glad to see the back of them…bad service all round…so keep away fro them people if u can…

Have had Ripplecom for 2 years now, I have the voice and 8Mb broadband service. I dont understand the negative reviews – this service is fantastic. We have 10 IP devices – 2 games consoles, 4 smart phones, 2 IPods and 2 PC’s and we use VOIP, game, stream and surf every day. Speedtest is always 4-5Mb and reguarly goes over 7.5Mb (havent seen 8Mb yet but have had 7.9 on a number of occasions). I have had 1 outage in 2 years.
In our estate you can get Eircom next gen and Digiweb wireless as well as Ripplecom. My kids say they are the envy of their friends because of the advantage they get in gaming!! I have to wonder about the reviews on this site, my friend works for a wireless ISP in Galway and he tells me that lots of the reviews placed on boards.ie are placed by well known Wireless ISP operators who are just trying to knock the competition. I have to question the reviews on this page – sounds like the same thing to me

Review by Patrick Redmond, March 9, 2012

You can not get an answer from their call centre. Only give a complaint number under duress. Non technical staff are rude, unhelpfull and useless.

Actual connection is rubbish. intermittant and unreliable. if it was a cheap service I might understand this.

How can comreg stand by and let this company continue to have a licence. How can the minsiter of communications stand back and let these idiots rip us off in this manner.

No stars, because they dont desrve any

Ripplecom used to be good, when they were Omnitel. Very relieable, fast speeds. Now that they are Ripplecomm: frequent outages, high contention, lots of packet loss, often usable for gaming, unable to stream HD, barely able to stream SD on Netflix or Sky, it can buffer every 10 minutes. Supposed to be 8 down 1 up, can often be 0.5 and 0.05 m Uload, which is ususable.

You can email them and email them and email them and never receive a response. You can spend half an hour ringing them and then they will cut you off, again and again.

When they do fix a problem it will only be a temporary fix and you will have no broadband again.

Prices have just gone up, downloads are now capped. Ripplecom are going backwards and rapidly downhill. Downloads haven’t increased in the four years I have been with them, so much for progress.

Avoid them like the plague and make lots of use of your bargepole!!

Trying to make this review as fair as possible. Had been a rather satisified customer back in the Amocom days with having only 2 service issues within the past 5 years. These were dealt with in a good efficient manner by a bloke called Jeremy and his side-kick Dave. These guys were professional, knowledgable and extremely helpful, as was the girl (Máire) their receptionist. I had been getting my full 2M allowance and never had any billing issues. Amocom was one of those companies that you could almost forget who your ISP was as it was rock solid. I mean like, 2 temperory break downs in 5 years. All this changed though when they merged with Rip Off Com. Big mistake Amocom! Our local, friendly & helpful ISP had disappeared and were not coming back. Kinda like been evicted from heaven and deported to hell. Ripplecom have had more monthly breakdowns than what Amocom had in 5 years. My so called 2M speeds were supposed to be increased but got slower if anything. The 90% reliablity had dropped to 9% as my connection would drop every night for a few minutes. Oh, and yes, they regularly fecked up my billing and even took more on 2 occasions. They even cut me off, disconnected my broadband, without even informing me. I thought it was just another breakdown for the first few days. And to top all this off, just got a letter saying they were now capping their download allowance to a measly 20GB pm.

Time to move on and forget all about Rip off com.

Was instantly attracted to Nova Networks, them being the best ISP in the country at the moment. They had coverage in my area too and their prices were soooo attractive. They even advertised extremly high speeds. Were these possible?? A quick call to Ann-Marie had me re-assurred and my order was placed.A great sales woman! She even threw in a free router for my needs. She either liked me of felt sorry for me. Within a few days, David had been and I was up and running. This guy went out of his way to please me with the install. Hats off! Did a quick speed test and to my amazement, a full 8M download speed and a generous 8Gb daily allowance. 8 x 30 days = 240Gb compared to Ripplecom’s 20Gb. Come on.

If you , like me, were unhappy with Ripplecom’s service, I could not recommend Nova Networks enough to anyone. Service, quality, reliability and value for money, all from a friendly local business.

Time to move with the times Ripplecom, you got too many big ideas and got too big, too fast and forgot about us little guys.

Hope this review helps someone.

Ripplecom are a joke – just been informed they are increasing the prices by 25% and capping usage to a measly 20Gb per month – and charging a whopping €1 for every 1Gb after you exceed 20Gb. Stay clear of them! Crap service and now very expensive!!! If I could leave a no star rating I would!

When Ripplecom took over Ice Broadband the service improved within a couple of months to something just about tolerable. Customer support were generally helpful and were willing to spend time to sort out any issue. However, in the last few months they have reverted back to the same low quality service and non existant support as Ice Broadband. Can barely load a google page. Every time I ring customer support I’m waiting forever and eventually have to leave a message. They never return a call. The only time they rang me back was when I pretended to be a new customer looking to sign up. Unfortunately they are the only service provider in my area (Athy) that offer a ‘land line bundle’. To summarize: Extremely poor service and bad customer support.

Martin, Athy.

The only way to get thierry attention is to log a complaint with Comreg. Comreg are not particularly helpful, but at least RipOffCom will actually do something about the bad service. In our area they carried out upgrade works to back haul links and the service has been stable for a few months now. Also the more complaints that go into Comreg about them the better

EMail Comreg with details of your failed communications attempts with RipOffCom for best course of action!!!

ripplecom….where do i start, constant outages, nonexistent customer service , paying for 8mb, only getting 3/4mb at best , a pisspoor outfit , i’d be gone long ago only no other bb provider in the area which these people know and take the **** knowing so …

Review by John Sheehy, December 13, 2011

absolute shocking customer service, that’s if you eventually get through to them after days of trying. they do not respond to messages / mails etc, a shocking service if anything goes wrong, had been ok until outages started but customer service is non existant, impossible to comprehend how this company thinks it will survive in the long run, only with them coz i can’t get anyone else at the moment but hopefully that will change shortly. they told me it takes 30 days to cancel my contract even though my connection is down for the last 5 days and counting! wake up ripplecom

RIPPLECOM – In other words “RIP-OFF customers”
Complete crap service.
Complete crap system. Down so often its a joke.
Will not answer the phone.
Will not reply back to customers when they leave a message.
Problem is, I’m stuck with the wasters because I cannot get anyone else.
Message to the Government and COMREG. Where is all the competition ye were talking about??

By the standards of any company providing any service or product… From widgets to cars or anything. Ripplecom is the single worst company I have ever dealt with. Engineers are of poor standard. General network is significantly oversubscribed and badly designed with very regular failures.

The accounts team are awesome though. They make sure your money is in the ripplecom account on time every month

STAY AWAY!!!! Unprofessional, disrespectful business with a BAD product and run by cowboys!!!

Had ice broadband for a year or so before Ripplecom took over, It wasn’t great but I was able to get some good use for it, speed usually 1.5m. When Ripplecom took over it became a complete joke. Speed completely dropped out. 0.2 – 0.4m

Customer service sucks, the only quick way to get through is ring sales dept (they will answer straight away!) and tell them to put you through to tech support.
When you do get through the tech support guys are either poorly trained or complete idiots.. I’ve had three completely different reasons to why my service was crap in the space of two days, these guys just didn’t have a clue and were just making up stories to try and get me off the line..

I was delighted when Eircom came to my area so I could tell Ripplecom where to stick their **** poor service..

Unreal. Ripplecom have to have the worst customer service ethos, i have ever come across in any company, let alone a service provider. Outages are common place and i dont think their engineers are up to scratch either.

I have been with Ice Broadband for two years as a business customer. I joined them as there was no one else in my area to provide broadband. My service stopped working three weeks ago and I have rang Ice Broadband at least 100 times (not exaggerating) and no one ever answers the phone. I have left a message on their voicemail system each time. I have been giving these clowns €80 a month for 2 years now for this service and I dont understand why they are prepared to loss this business as I now have giving up with them and plan to cancel straight away. My advise is DO NOT JOIN ICE BROADBAND.

Have been with ICE since September 2005 as they were the only option at the time for BB. Initial service was 1MB/1MB. They upgraded their service to 3MB/1MB abou 18 months later. On 2 occasions I have had very serious problems with speeds. It took a mail to the MD to get that sorted on the first occasion and that was after about a month of fruitless calls to their Customer service. The service has deteriorated very badly since mid December and no amount of calls or emails to their Customer Service has improved anything. When the service was working it was fine, but the unreliability has finally cracked me up and the Customer Service is virtually non existant. I am moving to DigiWeb.
I’m sorry to see a business that could provide an alternative (especially in more inaccesible and remote areas) decline simply due to poor service and poorer technical support.

i feel bad now coz it seems like everybody that has ice is ganging up on them. everybody see the stars rating thingy above? there should be another star for “joke” its the only way Ice would get a five star rating. im the same as a lot of people here. i just cant get anything else. but for those of you who dont use your internet for gaming, vodafone are offering an amazing deal. 3 down and .78 upload. capped at 40 free landline connection meaning no need for eircom and this is topped up with 200 mins talk per month to any vodafone mobiles. thats pretty good i think. well, in comparison to ICE its awesome. ive tried ask ICE when my contract was up and they wont even answer me. i can never get through if i ring them (even after being on hold for (seriously) 87 mins). ive got my eye on UPC chorus-ntl net. its the way forward for anybody who uses the net a lot. check them out. 15 download and 1.5 upload capped at 70, through fiberoptic with free router, free cordless house phone, phone calls free to 21 different counteries and no need for eircom either. 32 euro per month. thats the bizz. better than frozen, i mean ICE. the great pretendes.

I’ve been with ice broadband now for 2 years.
I live in a remote area of co. laois
We currently are not getting broadband because the transmitter is broken since last sunday in athy and i got a text message to say it will not be working till xmas eve which is a joke.
But in general, i’ve tested my speed at a average of 2.5mb of a 3mb line
i use it for xboxlive but the latency is quite bad.
We can’t get any other provider because of signal obstructions.
if i had a choice i would be with bt or chorus\ntl

Overall: No idea what’s going on; their speed and service has collapsed and their website gives no information as to what’s happening. I wouldn’t recommend ICE; too expensive and their products do not perform as advertised.

Performance: I have never received the advertised speed. At best, I received speeds of between 0.5 – 1.5Mb. On very rare occasions; 6 times in the first year and 4 times in my second year, speed was close to 3.0Mb for a fortnight. As of a week ago performance has collapsed to 0.3Mb/0.05Mb.

Reliability: I have always been able to connect to the web at any time but it has been let down by the performance.

Customer service: I had no issues with their customer service. In each case, they were quick to respond and my problem would be resolved for a time.

Value: Not worth it. Too expensive in comparison to offerings from other providers. Only worth it if you have no alternative provider… and really really must have broadband.

Pathetic service from start to finish with little or no support whatsoever.
Consistently poor speeds and ridiculous ping times.

Customer support was non-existent at times with only one technician manning the support lines plus wait times of 45 minutes on hold just so that the technician could tell you there was nothing they could do for you.
On a few occasions voice mail was left on after 6 o’clock meaning there was no technical support AT ALL.

Companies like this shouldn’t be allowed to trade as they are incapable of providing a service, even a mediocre service.

Don’t subscribe to this service unless you like to moan or want to be featured on a consumer TV show.
Worse that dial-up and I’m not exaggerating by making this remark.

AVOID.

Do not go near them. First day speed was 2.8mb now averages about 190kb on the same speedtest. Phone service is appalling. Customer service, if you can get through is clueless, technicians are awol, and there is no management to speak to. There was one manager I got through to once who promised a refund but funny enough no refund ever emerged.
No phone line for the last few weeks, probably haven’t paid their bill, so the message tells me.

Ice Broadband’s service is totally unreliable. We live in a rural area so we have no other option. I am constantly phoning their customer service to no avail – that’s when their phone works. When their engineers call out they blame the trees between our radio mast and their mast. Our radio mast is so high already it is ridiculous. I am still waiting for an even higher mast…. Sometimes we get close enough to 3MB download which is great and sometimes we don’t get anywhere near that especially in the evenings. My big problem at the moment is upload speeds. I have just spent 2 hours tonight trying to send an email with a 1.5MB attachment – it’s not going anywhere… Right now my Download Speed is 950kb – should be 3MB, Upload Speed is 70kb – should be 1MB. This is disastrous. DON’T choose Ice Broadband if you have any other choice, which unfortunately I don’t.

When we ring to complain we’re left on hold for 30/40 mins before hanging up as no-one answers and IF we get through they never call back. We stay with ICE as it’s the only internet connection we can get as the creche on our estate is higher than the houses and blocks the signal for Digiweb.

I recently had the misfortune of trying out Ice broadband I signed up for phone and internet just over 49 euro a month. They guy who came out to install my broadband managed to break some wedding gifts by knocking them off a shelf while drilling, he also left the side gate open which I had asked him to close due to the gale force winds which he failed to do and as a reusult it smashed my gate and then to top it off he knocked out my sky which I had to get someone else to fix. They promised a wireless router would follow in next few days that was almost 3 months ago I have already been charged three months in advance for a service which I cannot use unless I sit on the floor with my laptop plugeded into router. I tried to contact Ice 6 times to complain was told they would call me back, in end I had to contact comreg. Their excuse is that they are only chargeing me for broadband at 37 euro but I did not ask for broadband i asked for phone and broadband or nothing I recently tried to connect to Ntl phone, broadband and TV but they could only supply TV in my area so iI was given option to cancel as they could not provide service I asked for which is way it should be, if I walked into a shop and asked for milk and was handed bread and told like it or lump it I’m still chargeing you and trebble the price at that??? I would not recommend ICE to anybody. I am in the information technology sector and will be spreading the word about ICE.

They are thieves, they do not provide a service…. dont touch them with a barge pole. Dial up is better….

Is there any where that they can be reported for this level of disgraceful theivery.

Anyone who works for them must be so embarassed going in in the morning…

I would rate them a ‘-5′ if there was an option. a complete joke, customer service is ignorant and sometimes even rude and arrogant. Speed? – there is no speed
sometimes i have to use dial up to check my emails
AVOID AT ALL COSTS

When it’s good, it’s ok. The package prices are a little on the steep side, but not terrible. Latency is never good, but that’s common with WISPs.

When it’s bad, it’s worse than useless. For about half of my time with them, speeds were sub-dialup, with poor ping times and serious packet loss. Waiting 5 minutes to load a web page was not unusual.

Expect 20 minutes on hold to speak to customer service (when their phone lines actually work), who can’t actually tell you anything – they have a list of set excuses.
They NEVER replied to an email, unless I put ComReg on the CC list.

Finally, their solicitors have threatened to sue me for defamation when I publicly complained about the level of service.

Avoid at all costs.

Better than Eircom/Irish broadband?? I think not. In October, my fastest download speed was 1500kps – That was at 2 a.m. In November – 500Kps again around the same time. In December I never got a download speed of greater than 100Kps for the entire month! That was a 3Mb connection by the way Complaining to ICE, will just get you the speil that they are aware of the problem and are planning to fix it next month – This is stated every month. Also their contention ratio is way too high 36:1 is a joke, as that only guarantees dial-up modem speeds. Everyone in the town is waiting for the exchange to be upgraded so we can have alternative providers. As soon as it is Ice will lose the majority of its business. We had landline broadband when we lived nearer Limerick and we never had these sort of speeds.

Even if i had problems with the connectivity provided from ICE broadband , no one can negate they are better than Eircom and Irish Broadband. Maybe just second to NTL. I had to leave ICE because now i am leaving in Dublin city center and they are not providing service in Dublin city … WHY?

Poor service completely undependable, speed varies drastically, customer services don’t seem to have a clue about whats going on and assume that everyone else is as much in the dark as they are.

I have had nothing but trouble with Ice since the beginning. We are in a rural area with lousy signal for the mobile providers, so this is our only option. The VOIP is completely unreliable and has yet to date to pass a speed test. I have NEVER in over a year of service received the upload or download speeds promised.

Customer service is a complete joke. I ring every week and ask for a manager and every week I am promised a ring back. This has been going on for months, no one ever rings.

In terms of reliability it tends to go down every Sunday night, usually for an hour or two, but sometimes for a day or two or even more. There are never any credits offered for the downtime and the customer service reps have absolutely no empowerment and can’t help in any way. As stated above, management never rings back.

Ice Broadband is an absolute disgrace and a joke. I would not recommend them to my worst enemy. In case it sounds like I’m a complete moaner, I suggest you look at the Boards.ie thread to see that I am one of hundreds experiencing these problems.
