They are a joke signal does not carry throughout the house. Speed is about equal to dial up connection. Im with them over one year and will be leaving as soon as i can get another decent provider
Review by tom, January 20, 2012
I have same story as “Review by Brian, December 6, 2011″ when 200Gb a month downloaded data caused speed to be reduced to 300kbps. They also added me to some special heavy users list and will be monitoring closely. I talked to 20min to dumb Indian guy who could tell at all what “fair usage” is so i have no clue how far i can push next month… Can i open 5 pages at same time or it will crash all network? 200gb month is very far fair usage unless Imagine network has sensitive hardware and limitations at data center end. Bad provided, looking for a change.

I have been using Imagine WiMax for 9 months on their 7Mb package. In that time I have often got over 7Mb — often 10Mb download speed which I am very happy with. The ping is not fantastic at around 100ms but it has not caused me any issues. I have had only two problems since having it installed and in both cases Customer Service had it fixed in no time. I watch a fair bit of TV streamed from the net and I have never had a download warning.
Most reviews of this service rates it as very poor — my experience has been very different and so far I am happy with the service provided.

Download speed: 4 bytes/second
Ping: 1250ms
Upload speed: 1 byte/second
I am paying for a seven meg connection and apparently where I live I am getting a “strong” signal also…….

If you are in the North also, stay well clear of Imagine. Total rubbish as it just doesn’t work!. Every time I contact the customer services, it’s the same old excuse… We are having problems with the transmitter… Heard it once to often now!
Contract cancelled from January!!!
Review by Brian, December 6, 2011
My download speed was limited due to “heavy usage” according to WiMax staff. But what “heavy usage” means-they could’t answer this question.
I phoned them several times and the last time we did over 60 min talk and got me no where.I asked for better package as I have 7Mb????????????? at the moment, that I am prepared to pay more and even switch to business package as long as is UNLIMITED and they said it’s not available in Leixlip.
I tried in several different ways to buy better package with no luck!
I am going with UPC, for a 10 euro extra will get genuine 50Mb as a few of my friends have it and never get “Warning Messages”- at least you know you have 500GB limit which you will hardly exceed. And even if you do, you won’t get limited for the rest of the month.I know that for sure as my neighbor is tracking his downloads regularly and even goes up to 570-600 GB a month.
Oh, when I complained about speed(even browsing the net) they told me I should consider upgrading my PC.I was laughing for 10 min, told them I have the latest Macbook Pro and she cut me off!

STAY AWAY FROM WIMAX! Many of the postings here say that their download speed is crap and they get “fair usage warnings”. This is because the minute you get one of these messages they throttle your Internet for the rest of that month! Mine is 100mbps right now …… They sell you “unlimited” download. They do not tell you what the download limit is, just about “fair usage”. But, hold on? I thought this was “unlimited”? They sell you lies. I am told this download limit is as low a 35GB. So, the gamers who recently posted that they were happy with WIMAX – you sure have a surprise in store for you! Play away for the first week or two, bacause after that you are screwed!

I cannot express how pissed off I am with wimax service. I live in Co Kildare, I ordered 8mb broadband and it usually takes about 15 secs to display google, you tube – unusable, skype – unusable. I switched from Eircom, which I was always very pleased with, except the price. Now I ended up with wasted 150 euro installation fee (theres no installation). If I had the time I would drag them bastards to court. Guess I’ll just stop paying and dump the router. BEWARE!!!

THIS WAS MY POSTING OCTOBER 2011.
I would like to check if anybody is having difficulties with IMAGINE and there debiting of accounts. I normally am billed on 19 day each month. I was surprised when I was debited on the normal day and two days later they charged me again. I have emailed them twice as of today and telephoned on two occasions. They told me they only became aware of it when customers told them. I would have thought they would have notice too much money in their account. I am still waiting for them to an appropriate response. Anyone else have problems like this and what was the outcome. Advice welcome.
THE OUTCOME AFTER TEN DAYS WAS A REFUND… EMAILED CARE@IMAGINE.IE ALMOST A MONTH LATER NO APOLOGY OR ANY FORM OF WRITTEN COMMUNICATIONS. I TOLD THEM BY EMAIL IF ISSUE WAS NOT RESOLVED I WOULD ATTACH A TWENTY EURO ADMINISTRATION PER DAY IF ISSUE WAS NOT RESOLVED. WHEN I CONTACTED THEM BY TELEPHONE … INDIVIDUAL WORKERS WERE HELPFUL… I AM SORRY TO SAY I PERSONALLY FEEL THE ACCOUNTS DEPARTMENT ARE RUBBISH… THE ONLY WORD THAT EXPLAINS MY FRUSTRATION WITH THIS COMPANIES CUSTOMER SUPPORT.

The most terrible ISP I have ever had… ever.
Review by Ex Customer, November 11, 2011
I am, thank God, out of contract with Imagine and I am moving over to UPC. I had nothing but trouble with the phone and the clarity of voice, or lack of… and the broadband, which claimed to be 3Mb. I had faster dial up. If I was still in a contract with them, I would cancel on the grounds that their service is not up to the standards that they advertised and not up to the standards that you expect and are paying for.
The problems I had with the phone were that the voice would fade in and out and there was severe background noise. I was told that there was a compatibility issue with my Panasonic DECT phone and their equipment. When I spoke with their “tech” team they spoke with great authority about the problems associated with equipment that they had not tested (how do you test all phones on the market…no need to….we have European and ComReg standards that must be complied with in order to sell in Ireland). I listened to the “techies” and when I told them that I was a Defence Forces technician who had set up VOIP, data, Broadband (using VLAN) over satellite comms back to Ireland, from various overseas missions (in Africa with NO DOWN TIME and that YOUTUBE WORKED). I will be declining their renewal offer.

i had irish bb for 3 yrs and while it was slow {no one told me they had a out door hub}it was totally reliable last november i got a letter from imagine saying they were taking over the service and could offer me wi max so i asked for the 3mb pack with the outdoor hub but was told the service was not available for a few weeks in d15 so i waited and then was told they were not doing any outdoor work because of the snow at the time so finally in january they called me to say that the service was up and running in my area so i agreed they told me they would send out a team to install it i was not actually in at the time myself but when i came home i was appalled at the very poor effort they did at installing the outdoor hub it was literally hanging on with one screw my mum told me that two guys both foreign arrived stuck it to the wall with one screw and maybe some blue tack and pissed off i phoned imagine and complained and told them if it was not fixed asap i would report it on health and safety grounds the next day {yeah i was amazed too} a guy was out to me and when i showed it to him even he was appalled at the poor work done he however did a proper job {maybe cos he was irish}set it up for me and since then {and im a bit embarressed about saying this after reading all the posts on this}its worked fine ever since i have had no problems with it the weather does affect it but most of the time i get any where from 2 to 6 mb i do not have their phone line so can not comment on it if you live in d15 {i live in hartstown} the second guy who came out to me told me that imagine use the tower on the clonsilla road to transmit their signal so the closer you are to that and with little obstructions the signal will be better{apart from the weather} now in saying all that that has been my personnal experience with imagine it started out bad but has been fine since would i recomend imagine ? after reading all the posts i prob would not do i work for imagine ? no i work in dunnes ongar {and will prove it to anyone just phone dunnes ongar the number is in the phone book and ask for me thomas hughes }maybe im just one of the lucky ones i dont know its november now and i got 2 months left and i dont know yet whether or not i will renew im sure they will offer me some thing to stay with them but with upc and eircom offering decent deals at least i have a choice so it remains to be seen what i will do

Ordered the 7MB package last week, when I received the hub I was unable to get a connection so rang up there customer support and I have to say the rep was VERY good and supportive, with in a few minutes he got it up and running. There speeds are excellent getting 7-8Mbps tough was told the mast is only 500-600 meters away, there ping on the other hand is absolute rubbish if you’re a gamer 100ms at least but is to be expected with 4g, and there “unlimited” usage is another thing which I have a feeling they will be in touch about very soon. All an all Im very happy so fair and hope to say that way.

Mike Breathnach’s comments are interesting. I too have the 7Mb package, but not getting the same download speeds. As I write this review, it is 1:20am, currently downloading a file at a rate of 880 KB/s.
I have received three (3) ‘fair usage warnings’ – and my usage is NOWHERE the downloads of Mike Breathnach.
Can’t say I agree with his review… does Mike work for Imagine?

Yes, I do feel lucky!
I do not have Wi-max (from the preceding comments it seems that I have dodged a bullet on that score).
I do however have a broadband line connection from Imagine and overall I’m very pleased with it.
I have the 7.6MB package and over a period of two years I have averaged 5.5Mb/sec – 60ms ping. I use it quite heavily every day (frequent 3-5 GB HD downloads, etc) and have never had any problem with capping policies. As for customer services – I always got through to them first time and Imagine technical services were helpful when it came to re-configuring troublesome wireless routers etc.
I can only conclude that the Wi-max technology is being oversold when it simply isn’t up to the job.
It would be great to see an independent technical assessment of the gear that they are using. Any techies out there (or even in there!) with a bit of info on this?

Be aware of these scammers there in huge death the possibility of them disappearing is a matter of time! Its the reason they take the cash upfront i recking!! 1 in every 1000 may get a half decent service but dont be fooled that decent service would not be as good as dial up!! Fuck wimax and its shit service, customer care and network!!! The sooner the better you go bankrupt!!
I suggest we send a petition to comreg about getting this companys network removed from existence!!!

My one year contract finishes at the end of August. Got a phone call from Imagine offering perks – but only if I commit to a further one year contract… perks include 60 minutes free call to mobile (didn’t say if it was per month), also reduced/free subscription for one month.
I wonder is panic setting in at Imagine by trying to commit existing subscribers for a further year.

By far the worst provider I have ever had the misspleasure to experiance! If i could have given less then 1 star I would have. Stay far far far away from them. I would pick dial up over this! They really are that bad.
At Liam “On behalf of Clearwire: Charged for 6 months extra after getting box back. Now sueing for more. Imagine Broadband are uncontactable about the matter. They waited for 3 years before proceeding to try get more money to make sure no evidence remained of registering to send back box to them.
DO NOT THINK ABOUT ORDERING ANYTHING FROM IMAGINE BROADBAND. Their customer support is completely uncontactable both through phone and email!”
Is typical of them.

Not Good, have been having problems for months, used to have a 2MB connection with Irish Broadband and had no problems. I then up graded to 8MB with Imagine and here’s where all the trouble started. I was first told it was uncapped ie, no download limit, then received a message on my screen telling me I’d used to much!! (What?) And i was forced to curtail my usage!!! This never happened before and I wasn’t impressed. What’s the point in having a better connection that you can’t use?!? Anyway now the thing won’t let me stream a half-hour program and utube takes forever for just a little clip. I’ve done a speed test with imagine and that says i have 4MB!! I don’t believe that for a second, I then used speedtest.net and they said my connection is 2.5. Confusing stuff wonder why my old 2MB connect was better?? Am sick of this new broadband wish i could just go back to the old one

Thanks lads for the reviews. I was just on their site and decided to check em out via reviews. Shocking stuff to say the least. With UPC at the moment. Not a bad service in terms of speed but the router is kinda rubbish. Lose signal a couple of yards beyond my living room. Contracts almost up. Looking for a new provider. Any suggestions?

Worst broadband.. ever.. Was on a 7mb package not even getting up to 3mb speeds… and now €270 to cancel? haha
Review by Sarah, June 22, 2011
Literally the worst thing I have ever spent my money on.. Wimax – paying for 7mb BB and getting 0.5 at the very most. Ignored emails, smarmy responses when threats were made to leave, no intention of trying to help you. Told me that before they would even consider trying to help that i must spend a day taking at least ten speed tests on their own site at regular intervals before they would even talk to me about it. This was when I had the service less than a week. They dont even pretend to care. I cannot urge people enough to STAY AWAY FROM THIS PROVIDER. Customer service team – you are a disgrace. I am just furious that anyone could get away with providing a service this bad and get away with it.
I imagine that the only positive responses here were left by employees or something. Having asked around it appears that every customer I meet has or had the same experience.
Save yourself some money and headache and go with UPC, had them in my last place and was very happy with the speed. Also, any problem and a technician is sent right over. I’m only sorry I didn’t move into a place where this was available.

What I found about Imagine is these sales people on the phone nice as pie when selling Imagine deals. Silly me forgot thoses on the phone trying to flog Imagine deals are hoping for sales commission. If you ringing Imagine about a problems they keep you on hold. Passing you from one person to the next, who haven’t a clue about anything. Half the people on the other line can’t speak English that well. But when Imagine was lauch the amount of money they spent on advertising and promoting Imagine didn’t live up to it’s promise. But that Imagine fault. Imagine phone is that bad they have better connection in the Sahara desert. I would advice anyone not to go near this so called broadband. They take your money and don’t give two shits about their customers. They not worth rating

My router broke down, Imagine send me 2 new routher and none of them didn’t work, I returned all and than get second hand router but Imagine charge me ” 140 ” in 3 months, they say that is for routers and rent for those routers – I get second hand not new and I pay for router I dodn’t rent router…
I tryed to talk with them but they just reply I must pay them… so I instruct my bank to close acount with Imagine until I get my money back / 4 months free internet.
They charge 35 euro for 7,2 broadband and last month they send me bill by post for ” 23, 46 ” euro – I called them and asked for what is 23 euro – they replyed that is my monthly rent…..
Everybody just stay away from Imagine / Wimax or you will have only problems.

Ok networking… until there’s an issue. From there, it’s call upon call, all at your charge, never getting the same “technical support” staff twice, and every single time being asked to repeat the same stupid troubleshooting 101 tests even though you’ve been doing them every day for 15 days in a row with obviously no success.
They couldn’t find a fault on my line, and were apparently annoyed that my routers worked immediately when used in another house with a different ISP, but had suddenly ceased working with Imagine, despite getting a perfect DSL signal.
Finally, after pushing them a lot, i had them admit that no, they would never send anyone to run tests on location, despite not being able to troubleshoot remotely. And of course, a refund was out of question.
Avoid at all costs. One of those companies which *seems* fine until you happen to have one issue. Horrible customer service with no technical support whatsoever.

Not even going to rate this service.
Mother got it installed 2 months ago (she’s disabled). got lied by the rep at the imagine offices that 150 would be needed (100 security deposit & 50 activation) but would get 3 months free and was promised a 100 rebate after a while. so gave my credit card details & set up DD mandate. engineer installed service and later that evening it didn’t work for 5 days (excuse – an IDU was faulty, yet my neighbour was up and running – BS#1). repaired and then 2 days later had 100 rebated – happy days.. next day, no service. called up, they wanted the 100 back, told no, as to re-charge my CC wuld be illegal, as they had no permission. then ridiculous bills came in for service (it’s free) plus hidden extras, plus a 25 re-activation fee after it had gone down, refused payment, then they tried to bill my CC and DD at the same time, rang up fuming at them as they were not permitted to retain any CC not in the A/C holders name, got a snotty rep who told me they could do it (EH….. NO!!!!) then over the past few weeks it slowly grinded to a halt. called them up to cancel as their service is non descript and was advised i”d have to pay ANOTHER 100 eur to cancel….. told the rep in 3 days if engineer did not remove equipment i would have it removed and would bill imagine for it. took the system down today myself (Qualified IT tech) had to buy tools and a new ladder, so IMAGINE….. if you want your stuff back, you will find it where it belongs….. AT THE LOCAL DUMP NEAR MULLINGAR!!!!!!
AVOID LIKE GENITAL WARTS!!!!!!!!!

Below is the usual ‘NON REPLY – NON EXPLANATION’ from Imagine to the following question I sent by email:
Question : Can you advise, in numbers, what the ‘download capability’ is per month (this was a quote in the body of a ‘Fair Usage Warning’ received by email:
Below is the reply received today 26th April 2010 at 18:21hrs – and I am still none the wiser.
Hi Mike,
As stated in our Terms and Conditions, WiMax is an unlimited service. We do not have a cap or limit on the amount that any connected customer can download, however, it is a shared service and as such it is our responsibility to all of our customers to ensure that they have the same access to that service as any other customer.
In order to do this, we monitor the resource usage on each of our high sites, and where we identify that one or more users data traffic is negatively affecting the ability of other customers to access the network we implement our Fair Usage Policy. Initially, we issue a warning such as the one you quoted in your e-mail, and subsequently, assuming that there is no change in the usage activity and that other users are still being negatively affected by that usage activity, a rate limit is applied until the end of the calendar month, at which point the rate limit is lifted.
We do not supply an application for customers to monitor their usage, however several such applications are available for any customer to install, and we are quite happy to inform any customer that asks how much data they have downloaded to date in a given month.
If you have any further questions, please contact us on 1890 929 008. Lines are open between 09:00 and 20:00 Monday to Friday and between 10:00 and 16:00 on weekends and bank holidays.
Thank you for your valued custom.
Kind Regards
Paul

I have been an Imagine customer for many Years. I did have problems in the beginning which with the help of Com Reg was resolved after months. My internet went ok up until a few months ago and then slowed down and started dropping out and stalling. I rang Imagine support and eventually got some one who got me to run all the usual time wasting tests that do not prove or help the situation. It was suggested I ring Imagine when my internet goes down . This does not really work as Imagine support take too long to answer. If they do answer its back to testing all over again. I took to E-Mailing Imagine support. Most of my e-mails were Ignored. I contacted Com Reg again and after they got involved I got a few Calls and E-mails from Imagine. I do believe Imagine is under resorced and do not value their customers. I cannot see it surviving as an ISP with it present levl of service. I never Thought I would, but Im moving over to Eircom it seemes the logical way as Eircom own the lines ane exchanges, and thats what Imagine have informed me.

Another update on today’s review dated 31/03/11, I have today requested Imagine to clarify how much data I would be downloading if I were to stream sky news for one hour, im told I would need to contact Sky to ask them, how impractable is this, you would now need to contact any and all websites you intended streaming from to seek this information and then await their response before deciding if its going to be worth running the gauntlet and bothering to stream, if ever you needed a reason to steer clear of Imagine then here it is, this is a throw back to before dial up, at least with dial up you knew where you stood and what you limitations were, im totally frustrated at this ISP, the are so fast to pull you up on their fair usage policy but wont or cant tell you how you should adhere to it, from a customer perspective its torturous
Review by John Meade, March 31, 2011
This is an updated review from my earlier review dated 25 Feb 2011. Once again I have received another “fair usage” warning from this bunch, they told me that if I restricted my downloads to between 1am and 5am I would not have a problem, I did this and it now appears that streaming sky news is a no go. can you believe that, it appears that I cant download without restrictions “even though I signed for 7mb no download limits broadband” files, stream video, upload files, so tell me imagine, just what the hell is left for me to do with my “Broadband”, perhaps send the odd email “without any attachment of course” as that would be in breach of your Nazi like fair usage policy. What Imagine need to understand is that customers sign up for broadband SO THEY CAN USE IT. How can the customer monitor their own usage and ensure they are not effecting others users, I don’t have the technology to do this from my home PC nor should I have to, that’s your job and unless you can provide a customer with exactly what it says on the tin “unlimited no limits downloads and no catches” then you should piss off until such time as you can. If you can’t provide a service then don’t advertise it, “No download limits, no catches” Bullshit. I was told that I do have “unlimited downloads as long as I stay within their fair usage policy”. Well heres some breaking news for imagine, unlimited downloads should mean just that, unlimited, no restrictions, and no headaches for the customer. UPC fibre power will be available in my area at the end of April, then im off, I have in the past week convinced two neighbours on my road not to touch Imagine with a bargepole, that was immensely satisfying I can tell you as both were actively considering it. So after April instead of Imagine having 3 customers on my road they will have none, way to go imagine, top of the class for business acumen. I will grudgingly pay the €100 termination “fine” they will impose but will take immense satisfaction in discouraging potential Imagine customers to steer well clear. They can have they pound of flesh from me but at a cost of far more to them every time I explain to potential victims what signing up for this piss poor service will mean for them, once again you have been warned, DON’T SIGN UP FOR IMAGINE WIMAX UNLESS YOU WANT SUCH STRESS AS TO CAUSE YOU A BRAIN TUMOUR.
PS. I was advised by comreg to write a letter of complaint to Imagine outlining my issues, I did this and guess what, they didn’t even have the manners to reply, not even a polite bugger off. They just do exactly what they do over the phone, ignore the peasant customer as he’s not worth the breath, that’s their attitude, they talk over you and will not listen to a thing you say, so I say as a customer, Sod you, I’m off
Review by Mike Casey, March 30, 2011
Since signing up with Imagine’s WiMax in November 2010, I have received 3 ‘Fair Useage Warnings’.
Below is text of email received from Imagine one month after my initial enquiry. The questions my email enquiry were; 1) To put a figure on ‘Fair Usage’ 2) Put a figure on download limites, and 3) I attached a dictionary explanation of the word ‘unlimited’, as follows:
–adjective
1. not limited; unrestricted; unconfined: unlimited trade.
2. boundless; infinite; vast: the unlimited skies.
3. without any qualification or exception; unconditional.
Imagine only deal in ‘manure’ speak – DO NOT TOUCH

Hi Mike,
Thank you for your email and apologies for the delayed response. Due to the increased demand for Wimax, we have been quite busy as of late.
Just to clarify this matter, Imagine does not impose a limit on the usage of their customers. The service is an unlimited service when used within the terms of our Acceptable usage policy. The Wimax network is a shared service, meaning its resources are distributed fairly amongst all its subscribers. On occasion, the usage of some customers might be higher than that of others, and that’s fine, once this usage does not affect the connection of others. In some instances, for example in heavy downloading activity, a connection can be established for a long period of time, and can be utilising a large quantity of our network resources thus reducing the resources available to other users. In this instance, we are obliged to step in and take action, in the hope of providing a level playing field for all customers on the network. This is why we apply rate limiting to some accounts, if we identify a customer of excessively using the network resources, we will notify them of same and in time rate limit their service if activity remains unchanged. This decision is not based on download figures, but is based on our monitoring of network activity over the course of each month.
With regard to our notification screens, I apologise if you feel these are inconvenient. We find that this method of notification is the most effective for reaching the maximum amount of customers. We have tried email sending and other options in the past, but with these methods it cannot be guaranteed that these will be read. By implementing a notification screen on your browser, this provides us with a guarantee that each customer notified is aware of the current situation (be it rate limiting, planned works, etc). It is not our intention to disrupt your activity or cause any inconvenience, we just feel that this method of communication is the most effective for both ourselves and our customers.
If you have any issues or comments regarding this query, please do not hesitate to call us on 1890 929 008 or by email to wimaxsupport@imagine.ie. Phone lines are open from 9 AM to 8 PM Monday to Friday, and from 10 AM to 4 PM on weekends and bank holidays.
Thank you again for your valued custom.

Just been throttled for exceeding their “fair usage” policy – I’m on an unlimited plan (Downloaded about 65gb within 29days).Eircom in contrast has a fair usage policy of 250gb!
They wont tell me what the cap is (im guessing 60gb) and claim it is all dependant on other users in the area. Therefore by their logic I must track other users download usage and download accordingly! Not sure how I’m supposed to do that… I ain’t a mindf*ckingreader!
Unable to track my own usage online aswell – you are required to phone tech services (their normal customer service advisors dont have access to it) to find out – so yeah lots of minutes spent waiting in their queue!
STAY AWAY from this crappy MIDBAND service
Review by Biggins, March 18, 2011
Have been with Imagine’s Wimax service since June 2010. Since week two, has been a complete nightmare.
10 Months on – over 48 technical calls over desperate speeds (most of the time one meg or below – despite I being signed up to their 7 meg service) and another 20+ calls due to constant disconnections COMPLETELY by broadband and phone, I have gotten nowhere with them.
Anyone interested in reading my adventures about them can read the ongoing article on http://www.unitedpeople.ie – a site I’m trying to run but Imagine are making it from damn hard to near impossible!
1) Computers and laptops are unable to play youtube video after certain exact periods of time. In other words any random video will play but at EXACTLY 48 (for example) seconds in, it stops and freezes. before somesome says it must be the pc (no, tried it on other laptops and machines – of which I have many). tried to play the same videos through others networks and they play just fine! Go back to Imagine’s, same problems crops up again!
(2) Torrents are blocked – yes, I said blocked bespite what a spokesperson on their facebook page says different – for which is standard reply is “Please contact out techies” – and if you have read this far, you will know have proven to be untrustworthy, outright liars and haen’t a clue in a hell of a lot of cases. Anyway, back to the torrent problem. Remarkably they work when connected to others networks but when I bring the laptops home? No, Dead …well until a strange hour in the morning!! By some miracle they automatically are usable at 1.30am onwards in the morning till about 8.30am – then bang – gone again! …And yes, I’ve tried other PC’s and Laptops – same result. Checked ALL firewalls, own ports and every software setting possible. The same bizarre problem also exists when trying to download a file using Hotfile services! Blocked completely ALL day till… BANG! 1.30am in the morning and then they all remarkably work! Same downloads work fine on same computers/laptops all the time day and night when brought to others networks that are not Imagine in name!
(3) Their ping rate still is – and always is – absolutely desperate, so there goes trying to do any gaming live over an Imagine service. Their ping rates are a sad ever continuing joke amid I.T. techies.
(4) Clicking on a link or webpage, sometimes the effort to try and connect times out (tested again on other peoples networks and works fine 100% of the time) and I get nowhere. On the lucky times, I get connected eventually after two to five minutes of trying and occasionally re-clicking the link again and again till Imagine’s broadband finally allows me connection!
I’m qualified in I.T. – am an I.T. teacher, programmer, techie amid other qualificationd and decades of training, not including same amount of years hand-on and have had my own I.T. company so I know when I have heard bullcrap …and I have had nothing but bullcrap, near hundreds of excuses and tech help from some idiots who seem to think I’m just another mug they can pull the wool over as I’m on the phone to them for hours each time.
I have used some bad services in my time and have heard some miserable excuses and lies – but the crap coming from Imagine has bet them all in ALL my years – and I’m no spring-chicken.
They are one disgusting, terrible, terrible service and as soon as my contract runs out in two months, its bye bye to them and good riddance. They might at times claim to be cheap – but by god, they are not worth it!

Absoulety horrific “service”. Customer service team are a group of donkeys who havent got a clue what they’re on about, really poor speed all through the contract, complained at least 20 times and every time their excuses got more and more paper thin, ranging from, “well your pc, laptop and ps3 must all have a virus” to even as bad as “a family member like your mother might have changed the IP address” they will literally say any BS to direct you in circles to not let you cancel and insist you pay 100€ to leave, phone sounds like the person on the end of the line is in a wind tunel, sky multiroom is just not compatible with it, a call to a mobile will cause you to re-mortgage your house, just stay well well, away from them, my saving grace an wat restored a little of the massive amount of sanity they took was, when i called to cancel and they informed me i would be paying 100€ because the 12 months wasnt up, i quoted comreg and irish law in which a minimum service contract is in fact 9 full months and not 12, shut the smartass right up, then he had the cheek to offer me 3 months free, i told them where to shove is 3 months, DD is cancelled and a new, hopefully better provider is on the way!! F*CK YOU WIMAX, I HOPE YOU GO BUST AND EVERY EMPLOYEE IN THAT CUSTOMER CARE TEAM ENDS UP IN SO MUCH DEBT THEY END UP HOMELESS!!!!!!!!!!!!! YOU HAVE TAKEN 9 MONTHS OF MY LIFE AND SANITY!!!!!!!

I was with Imagine for 4ys on their 3mb home phone and broadband package, never had a problem until i upgraded to 7mb Wimax, worst decision ever. Within a week they had sent me a “warning” saying i was in breach of their “Fair Usage Policy” regarding my downloading amounts, this despite the fact that i was sold “Unlimited downloads and no catches”, then on the second week they throttled my speed down to a poxy 0.34mb, first chance i get to leave this shit service i will be gone, i advise anyone contemplating moving to Wimax to wave your arse out the window as this will provide you with a better service than this crowd of gangsters can give you, DONT SIGN UP FOR WIMAX, you have been warned.

if you want fast internet and you want a good internet service provider go with UPC even if it’s not in your town wait it out wait even 10 years at least your better of then going with Imagine Wimax your just going to suffer a whole year with it, your better off with dial up then WIMAX

AVOID THIS COMPANY….THEY ARE LIARS
This company does not deserve a rating
I cant even begin to tell you all the problems I’ve had with this excuse for a company, from the lying salesman who signed me up telling me there was no activation fee to the customer service agents pretending to be managers!! They have taken money from my account without my consent and I’m still waiting on a credit from last October…I cancelled in December and received a bill today for January!! Formal letters of complaint dont even warrant an acknowledgement with them. They are pure fraudsters and I cannot comprehend how they are still in business! Why cant it be companies like them that go out of business in the recession? Might sound harsh, but i cant wait for the day they do
I’ve seen a couple of fantastic ratings here, seems a bit of a coincidence though that they appeared after I spoke with a ‘manager’ and told him he should read it to see what a bad rep his company has (I was told that all wimax customers are happy with the service, ’cause it was sooo fantastic..) so obviously I had to prove him wrong – I firmly believe it is wimax employees trying to up the rating so I implore you to ignore them
on a final note, a word of warning (if i had read this forum before signing up it would have saved me) if you value your mental health AVOID IMAGINE AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID AVOID
Complaint currently ongoing with Comreg, ‘imagine’ they have a whole department dedicated to dealing with this shower of ******s
ive noticed a couple of others threatening to burn imagine down, I’m with ye there lads, sounds lik a plan

Received my Wimax Hub on Tuesday. Followed instructions and set it up. The Informational Youtube video kept freezing and was slower than an arthritic snail. Phoned Imagine for guidance a number of times, they were extremely helpful and very patient. I had read the reviews above and was expecting to do battle on various issues. This was not at all necessary as they could not have been more customer friendly. Eventually landed up with Jason Hawthorne, who worked out that my hub was not receiving signal from the nearest station, hence the sloth. He worked tirelessly on his side to re-boot and re-route my signal. He phoned me back, when he said he would to check consistency and could not have been more conscientious and diligent if he tried. All in all I was so impressed with both his and Wendy’s (from Tuesday evening calls) great service and “can-do” attitude, that I felt I must give credit where it is due to balance the more scathing comments about the Imagine Service.

I got the 7mb bundle. I’ll start with the good things. Don’t worry you won’t be reading this bit for long. It’s reliable, hasn’t gone off since I got it. OK that’s it.
Here’s the bad stuff. It says 7mb, I get about 1mb if I’m lucky. Youtube sucks even with low res stuff it uses loading screens every couple of seconds.
Gaming sucks because the pings are so bad. If everything is working great and there’s not many people on the bandwidth might increase but the pings still suck.
Can’t seem to download stuff from some torrent sites during the day. Works fine at night. Also just to show that it’s not my router or computer that’s at fault. At night if I’m downloading a movie I get massive speeds. Like 5 or 6 MB.
I don’t like these internet company’s, the way they seem to think that it’s OK to lie to people just because there an ISP. My advise is to stay clear.

CANCEL WHILE YOU STILL CAN
Review by Anonymous, January 13, 2011
I just rang Imagine today, as i am moving apartments. I have had Irish Broadband/Imagine DSL broadband here (D.15) for 3 years and it has been mostly perfect. This is a fixed, wired service which I trust, and has been consistent and reliable for the most part.
However, when I rang to say I was moving, – WiMax was pushed on me. In fact, apparently, there is nothing else, and my existing arrangement (fixed DSL-brilliant for 3 years) would be a problem according to the salesman. Do I detect bullshit? I have agreed to it, being a v.happy customer for 3 years with the particular package I have. But is WiMax worth it in the d.15 area or not? I have 6/7 days to cancel…

Review by Francois, December 27, 2010
Stay clear of this company.
I signed up for 1 reason only to get more speed.
Problems:
- Phone does not work – cuts out after 1 min.
- After several calls Imagine offered to send a test phone as mine was apparently non-compatible.
Phone arrived after 2 weeks and I got billed 45 Euro for this test phone.
- Phone still not working correctly – 3 weeks later Hub was replaced as it turned out to be faulty.
- Speed looks impressive – had spikes of 100MB – But and here it the catch.
go over a limit of 30 GB download and they decide to cap your speed – yes from 7 MB
+ to under 1/2 a Meg
That is 0.30 – 0.40 download speeds – This is after getting a annoying webpage babbling on about fair usage crap.
You will have unlimited downloads until you hit about 30GB then they will reduce your speed and it will only be reset the following month.
so in short, if you reach 30 GB in 2 – 3 days – bye bye speed for the remainder of the month.
I’m cancelling mine once everyone gets back to work and going back to Eircom.
Stay clear and don’t get burned like a lot of other people including myself.

Signed up for this crap when I first came to Ireland,
ordered the 7mbit WiMax, took about a week to get the stinking modem. When it was plugged in I had less than a mbit download, and 0.01 upload with speedtest .net, over 350 ping
cancelled that shit within 7 days, they charged me over 93 euros for five days of Internet.
After a month I finally got in touch with their sales team and will get a full refund after two fucking months of waiting.
NEVER GET IMAGINE, THEY SUCK AND SHOULD DIE HORRIBLY IN A FIRE.
Review by Anonymous ex Imagine Tech Support, December 2, 2010
“Imagine, an internet service”, or should that be “Imagine an internet service”
I used to work for imagine. I helped a customer get set up on my first day on phones. Now the problem is that this person uses a mac and Imagine don’t support macs. I was not told this and since I use Operating System agnostic instructions, I should be able to help anyone, regardless of whether they are using windows, OS X, Linux or even syllableOS.
But Imagine only likes windows customers. If anyone wants a good recommendation stay away from Imagine and go with UPC If anyone wants the password for the indoor hubs it’s “motorola”
And yes extreme weather conditions do affect it’s usability as it’s technically “Mobile wimax” and not “fixed wimax.” even with the fixed installations, it is still mobile wimax, as these units do not support the infinitely better fixed wimax standard. (For users in the west, check out NetWest who do provide this service)
They cannot email users on the Microsoft Network (hotmail, live and msn email addresses) because Microsoft have blocked the imagine.ie domain due to spam reasons. So if you want to have a chance at getting back an email from them, please use a different domain email address. If you want to ask for a manager, please ask for Mark or Brian. Mark is the manager who is over Brian (There are two managers called Brian, so Mark will probably be the best one to ask for.)
I would urge users of alternative operating systems such as OS X and Linux to email Motorola for device drivers to be made available and let imagine know that you are doing this as they seem unwilling to support you by emailing support@imagine.ie. There has been some success on linux with NDISwrapper however.
Incidentally, I was sacked on my first day on the phones with the excuse that “It wasn’t working out” although the minutes of this meeting were never written down and I was never given an answer other than I had become a liability and they did not have to answer any further than that. So ask about why they let go the agents that have good technical skills and good people skills. And yes, I can speak perfect english on the phone too.
I cannot give my name for obvious reasons.
But for those users who have an option, go with UPC as they are infinitely much better with support and stability. And no, I don’t work for UPC.
Review by Evelyn C, November 27, 2010
Illegally signed me up – Telesales A.hole lied through his teeth to get me through the verbal contract recording stage of the sale. Manager even acknowledged this but would still not allow me to cancel without the €100 cancelation fee. Contacted Comreg AND the European Commission, Communications Office but they could not do anything as the only ‘recorded part’ of the sale is you saying ‘yes’ lots of times!. Anyway, broadband quality is about as good as on a mobile phone, says 3MB but is actually just under 0.5MB or half a MB. Telephone cuts off regularly during noisy crackling conversations. Signal on router is almost non-existant and not only do I live only a few 100 metres from the mast, but I have an outdoor unit too to boost the signal! Yes, thats right, yet it is still like 1980′s technology even though they tell you the future is here with WiMAX!
This company should be closed down as everything about them is either illegal or very dodgy. If you value your mental health, you will avoid, avoid, avoid them.
Review by Bill Donald, November 26, 2010
…I originally posted this in the Irish Boardband section – but since they now call themselves Imagine, I’m posting my rating and opinion here too. And in the unlikely event anyone from Imagine is reading this, yes it’s my real name because people deserve to know the truth about your company…
I’ve been a Breeze (in other words a business) user for the last four years. I also switched to their VoIP service a couple of years ago – big, big mistake.
Over the years their service has declined to an unreliable farce. I live in Portobello, which is essentially Dublin city centre in broadband terms. Yet the loss of ALL service is virtually a weekly occurrence. Their tech support is staffed by brain-dead droids whose technical knowlege and ability is so dreadful that RS-232 would be a challenge for most of them. Their customer support are employed presumably on their ability to bullshit. Indeed the whole company makes Brian Cowen and the FF Party look like interllectual giants.
They really should rename themselves “Illusion” as their current name “Imagine” suggests creativity. The only creativity this bunch of smegheads has is a business model of the Irish banks – lies and incompetence. I could bore you with sob stories but you’ve read it all before.
My recommendation is to give them a very wide berth indeed.

Crock of crap. Stay clear of this company. The only positive is that the cost is low. Salesman lied to me to get me to sign up. Service not operational for 10 weeks after sign-up date, was not allowed to cancel even though paying 2 bills! Forget about downloading and even watching youtube vids – the purported and advertised 3MB speed is slower than dial-up 10 years ago. Takes 25 mins for a youtube video of 10 mins to load when choosing the video of lowest quality (both eircom at 1MB and Vodafone at 2MB allowed me to watch the highest quality videos without any lag). Thats when the bloody service works, usually it’s ”down for repair” or ”down or slow due to the weather”. Phone service is equally awful with constant crackling at best and sound of a roaring jet engine at worst. I could go on and on but won’t. Stay clear if you don’t like stress and hassle and advise everybody you care about to stay clear (if you hate them you could tell them you heard it was great)!

Its a full piece of shit!!! Stay away from this SHIT for these reasons:
1- They said lies to me from the beginning. The guy who came to me for advertising told me that if some people share this service at home, the speed would not be declined. later I found out that this is not true and when I asked customer service and mentioned this they told me that sales person has told me wrongly.
2- The quality is terrible. I got 7 meg service and have had it for more than 5 months but most of the time it is less than 1.5 mg. I collected the report from speedtest.net and can provide to whoever wants.
3- They never answered the mails or will answered after several days.
4- Whatever they promised me to do like installing external units or increasing the service was a complete lie and they never did it. I asked them for talking to some manager and they never let this happen.
5- They charged me several times with some odd items on the bill. I asked them to refund me for them and correct my bill which they never did.
6- the quality is so low that some times I can not even check my mails!!!! I have to click each link several time and refresh the page several time so that the page finally open. FORGET about dowloading and even watching videos on you tube even at the lowest quality. It will make you mad.
Summay: THIS ISP IS THE WORST EVER. LIES and SHIT service with no customer service.
If you don’t mind being F*cked like what I told you then go and sign contract with them.

Further to my review below, i’ve reached my first snag with WiMax. Nobody explained how much my first bill was likely to be. I apparently joined in the middle of the the bill cycle, so i’m charged for 1 1/2 months. No problems there. I knew there was a €50 installation fee but because i needed the outdoor box it was €99. No one said that to me. And no one told me about the €50 activation fee. What the hell is that for? Anyway, my first bill is €218… Ow.
And i had an outage yesterday evening at 4.30pm. Rang customer care who saiad they were closed for the weekend and gave me a 1530 number… Hell no! Eventually got through to someone on the customer care line, who had broken english and was no help whatsoever. Kept saying i have to wait. So i asked for a credit, and it was like i was asking for a free house! Eventually got it through to him that i wanted a manager (refused to give me one initially), and the lovely Irish manager came on and gave me the credit no questions asked!
The service is still good, but some customer care agents need more training in how to talk and english. Still satisified for now, but i will be talking to ComReg about tech support closing so early at weekends.

Spoke to two people which took twenty min to answer the phone after having to listern to that crap jingle playing while waiting. Finally someone answered the phone and couldn’t speak clear precise English to understand them. Another excuse was I’ll have to ask my manager etc. All these sales rep at Imagine haven’t a clue. I told them one more day of this and I will not be paying a cent more for such bad service. I’m looking at other broadband deals. So with no broadband all week hadn’t any phone connections etc. Go to see my solicitor about this.

Have WiiMax about a month now and can’t really complain. Was with Eircom before on 7mb off peak calls package which was cost me €62 a month. And i was lucky to get over 3mb speeds. Changed to WiiMax and getting the 7mb calls anytime package for €40.
As for Speeds, (allegedly able to get up to 7mb dl, 512k ul), wirelessly i’m getting 2.7mb to 3.2mb and 600k upload. Wired however, i’m getting up to 9mb (hasn’t gone under 7mb) and same ul. Then again, i was told i’m fairly close to their mast.
Also, at the moment WiiMax don’t allow administrator access to the hub, so any port forwarding has to be done through customer care who, honestly, i haven’t had any problems wih so far. If you get an Irish lad they’re usually straight forward and honest. But some are reading from a script.
Overall, happy so far. It’s no firbe powered UPC, but i’ve been told by the installers (who, by the way, were excellent, tidy and extremely friendly) that WiiMax will be going 24mb uncontested by next year. Here’s hoping…

Just been approached by rep for Imagine WiMax. Have 20mb cable internet from Cablevision, Dungarvan. €50 without the tv, €65 for cable + telephone. Speeds are fine. Problem if service goes down in weekend (just like everyone else). Happened twice, okay by Monday afternoon. A bit pricey but I have 3 tech children. Definitely have to give WiMax a miss until they sort out problems. Would need to know what are actual speeds. Seem to be hidden charges in the terms & conditions plus 12 month contract – activation €50, dongle €50 and outdoor hub installation €100 ??????????

If you want to stay sane do not sign up to Wimax. Lies Lies and more Lies. Nothing has worked proberly since I signed up. Worst mistake I ever made. They should be prosecuted for misinforming the public. I have spent hours on to their so called Customer Care Service who sound like robots towing the party line. For two months I was overcharged in total by E100. No refunds they held on to my money running a credit on my account it took two and a half months to clear that. I informed them that I considered that they had robbed my bank account and looked for a refund request ignored.

I now had imagine dsl broadband for over a year. am on a 7.6MB package. The speed is good never goes down below 5mb usually its around 6.5mb thought never have experienced max speed. Had a eircom broadband before that total crap was supposed to be on 7.6mb but i was barely getting 1 mb plus now that they will start reporting people who download copyrighted materials everyone should be staying away from them unless you fancy some time in jail.

what a load of crap I had to cancel the worst ever.
for a company that should well up in integrated systems WEEEEELLLLLLLL one hand really does not know what the other hand is doing there broadband is seriously flawed there customer service is flawed there and there IT it definitely flawed
don’t order if you do you might as well be ordering a non-fictional nightmare on wimax street
and if you go to cancel OMG another nightmare don’t sign there agreement without reading your stuck with it once you sign unless you can cancel within 7 days according to wimax and even at this you will find it very hard to cancel within them days
get to the point order WIMAX = NIGHTMARE

The landline with imagine is pure crapppppppppppppppppppppppppp Had no broadband or phone for three days and was still billed for it. They send stupid email when billing about there stupid Wimax singing jingle, plus enter their competition to Win 4 Electric Picnic Tickets!
Not going to even rate this shit whole ISP Imagine

OK so the speed is much slower than advertised but what about their support. We lost broadband for several hours last weekend and then Saturday it went again … and was finally back Monday at 1 pm. I asked them for their SLA and he quoted me 3 “working days” ie. tough if it goes at the weekend, you could be waiting til Thursday for it to get fixed. Note, they don’t publish an SLA anywhere in their literature.
It’s a joke that they’re endorced by Intel and Motorola – we thought this meant they had some technical knowledge, apparently it was just some financial backing.
My advice – don’t touch them with a bargepole. We can no longer use our home phone (for same reasons as everyone else) so you’re saving nothing and we never experienced outages like this with either Eircom or Perlico.
PS The “average rating” should be a median not a mean as it’s clear that Stephen Miskella’s rating is an outlier and Imagine should not get more than a minimum on anything

Just trying to get out of my contact with imagine. But no one will answer the phone. Will be on Monday stopping imagine from getting one more euro from me. I’ve have bad phone reception, very patchy and cracking all the time. I swear folks don’t ever sign up with them. They are useless bunch of crap! I’m not going to evern rate then. They dont’ deserved to be rated.

Imagine is all PR and no action. They couldn’t give a damm about their customers etc. Michelle your right there “Irish Broadband relabeled” The phone is crap and very bad reception annoyingly patchy and crackling. I wonder do Imagine ever read this and learn from comments been posted on this?

i agree with Katarzyna i ordered the wimax from them. same problem do yourself a favour don’t go near them with a bargepole as soon as you sign your Bo*****
the adds look great everything on the outside looks great but the reality is far from great i got Eircom there ok but a rip off it works at least i had NTL there ok to but need more DNS servers as i say wimax stinks and there policys stink to watch what you sign
BTW Stephen Miskella (above ) do you work for wimax
Review by James, May 28, 2010
The worst ISP in Ireland. I have it and swear it the worst thing I have ever sign up to. Most of the staff haven’t a clue when you ring then about a problem. They just pass you one from one person to the next running up a huge phone bill. One time I rang i swear i thought it was a call centre in India. Couldn’t make out what the poor guy was saying. I wonder could i get a job at wimax answering phone? saying I don’t know pass you on to our customer support. Customer support “sorry i don’t know about that” i try and put you through tecnical support and you just go round and round with them. I wouldn’t put my worst enemy through this.

I have the 7mb package with the land line. Since the beginning the speed has been terrible. It’s at an average download speed of around 2.1mb over the last few months. It should be at least 5mb when you pay for 7mb. So not great at all really. We used to have a 3mb package with a different service provider and their download speeds were much faster. So go figure!!!
Review by Stephen Miskella, April 28, 2010
I had Imagine 7.6mb through my Eircom landline for well over a year and I always got speeds up to 950kb/sec!! I would highly recommend Imagine through landline but for their new Wimax service I can not vouch for because I haven’t tried it. Landline service with Imagine though is savage!
Review by Michelle o'b, April 23, 2010
Simply Crap! This isn’t wimax. This is Irish Broadband relabeled!
I had it for 3 weeks but the speeds never got over 1.2Megs!
It wasn’t worth it

i BOUGHT IMAGINE LAST WEEK.. I HEARD IT WAS GREAT COS THEY WERE ON THE RADIO ETC ETC… WHEN I SET UP IT, THE MAX SPEED I GOT LESS THAN 78Kbps..
(Sorry for the capitals)
I called up and they said their network was too full in my area. I wanted to cancel but they gave some stupid excuse for why I cant…..?
I just gona stop paying and dump the modem …..its not worth it.
