Magnet sucks. Not as bad as Vodafone, but still pretty sucky.

I have a FTTC (Fibre to the Cabinet Service). Advertised as up to 100MB, told on installation that it was about 80. Evening service runs anywhere from 10 – 50MB download.

The service just bounces up and down a lot. With frequent, brief disconnects. I never got an explanation for any of these, just a “Yeah, I can see that happened there alright, but it’s ok now, yeah?”

Connecting media players to the media server in the house is also hit and miss. It can work fine for a while, then suddenly devices start losing sight of each other, and the only resolution is to reset the router.

I’ve pretty much given up calling customer “support”, unless one of the frequent downtimes starts to drag on. Partly, I’ve given up because they don’t care. The other reason is that it takes forever to get through to them, and as one support queue fills they route to call to random other queues (call tech support, eventually get through to billing)… all the time you’re paying for the call, cause they don’t offer a freephone number or even a landline number. You’re paying premium support for a substandard service.

So why am I with them? Because they offer a pay as you go model, and I want to be able to switch to another provider for Fibre to the Home as soon as it’s available without breaking contract.

Before someone comes up onto the stage they are doing their home work first-nobody do not exercise when already on the stage.
Magnet guys still have no clue of what does running the business means!
Upon their understanding it means nothing more but checking their bank account and dreaming of living high by doing nothing.
We were waiting for connecting us to the broadband service 10 days (!) and our patience was gone by then – we came back to our previous provider.
Customer care is terrible! They lying straight into the face that someone will call back in next 30 minutes and it last forever – they never call back!
They are using KN Networks technicians who are rude and lack even basic knowledge.
As a non Irish person I’ve got strong aftertaste of racism present during all our communications.
What a shame!
I’d recommend to avoid these guys and to chose other internet provider instead.

Really dont get negative reviews for Magnet broadband. I’m thoroughly impressed with them. I had previously been with both UPC and Sky for broadband. While they were both good, they kept trying to hike the price on me which really irked. I’ve locked into a €40 p/m, 18 month deal with Magnet. I’ll know every month what my bill is, total relief!! Magnet broadband is just as fast and as reliable as the aforementioned. Its no frills no fuss just the product and leaves you to it. No constant adverts/flyers/calls with offers. Just you and your broadband for a flat fee with no hassles. I’ve had absolutely no issues and no botheration and will stick with Magnet for life.

I’m with Magnet for about 4 years? I have moved my broadband a couple of times to different address no problem with that. I can say straight I had no major issues with this provider, there are always some delays especially in customer service, but this is a nature of a business and communication. Seeing all negative reviews for Magnet it got me thinking that maybe people are too eager and demanding? If you expect that your account, or connection issues will be resolved in 5 minutes then magnet is certainly not for you go to Sky or whatever I’m sure they fix things in 5 minutes heh. Keep it up Magnet and you’ll have your loyal customer.

Packetloss issues for nearly a year I have had about 2~3 months where the packet loss was resolved. Support ignored all communications about the issue. One of the sales team provided some credit on my account while they were fixing the problem but back to square one,
Peaks of 20% packet loss have a terrible impact on TCP performance, SIP(VOIP) is ruined by these level’s of loss.
They are best avoided due to the support team not actually caring about customers.

Magnet’s IPTV service is worse than awful. Besides random connection losses and very poor channel selection, their services also include incorrect program information and unwatchable HD channels. It’s also ridiculously overpriced and seems to be getting worse over time. Avoid at all costs!

Dealing with magnet has genuinely been one of the worst experiences of my life. Terrible service, terrible customer support. If you are thinking of getting magnet just don’t do it to yourself, it’s not worth it.
From the very beginning when it was first installed the internet did not work, it took 2 weeks and 3 men callling to the house to finally get it up and running, with me phoning their very expensive support line every single day and sending countless emails.
Even when the internet was “fixed” it regularly crashed, at least 3-4 times a night.
Our service was down for 10 days and nobody could figure out why, finally after numerous phonecalls they sent somebody to the house and it turned out someone in the office had just cancelled our account for some reason and we are yet to be compensated for the lack of service.

I feel one star is being too generous. I don’t even know where to begin, would seriously advise anyone against Magnet. I pay €41 a month for 24mb broadband. Generally I don’t mind internet not being super fast and understand that I’m not going to get the full advertised speed. I live in Dublin City and am receiving 3mbs at best these days. For some bizarre reason I’ve stayed with them for over a year. Purely out of lazyness on my behalf if I’m honest.

When we joined we received around 8-10mbs and everything was working perfectly. A few months in the line began dropping. They said the line wasn’t capable of handling the speed so brought we down to 4. All of the sudden the line wasn’t capable of handling the speed? Not that it was a fault, it was just the line.
I always try to be nice to customer service and support agents when I can because I’ve worked at it myself, but jesus christ it is difficult with this company. Completely scripted responses and if they don’t have an answer it “has to be escalated” and they’ll “send an engineer out”. The past three times I’ve rang in they’ve “sent an engineer out”. Although I have yet to see or hear from this mysterious engineer creature they speak of.

I cracked when I did a speed test and realised we were receiving 0.5mb/s rang in, support told me to reset my router. Did that and when it rebooted it would not connect to the internet. They said it must be my router and not the connection. Made absolutely no attempt to walk me through re configuring my router. Just “tested the line”. We got an old router working and the connection was still 3.5-4mb/s. Rang in again to see if there was anything I can do, serious dejavu. Nearly word for word the exact same phone call as the other times. The said he was going to provision our line from 12mbs to 15. Should wait a few hours before it kicks in. Did a speed test every hour for the next few hours. Speed had ******* dropped to 3.2. Not a noticeable difference, but somehow they managed to make the problem worse.

After over a year of calling in about this, we get a call today saying our house is 2000meters from the exchange…. Did it ******* move?! Never, ever before has anyone mentioned the distance from the exchange to us. They’ve been trying to fix our speeds and saying that shouldn’t be so slow. Now all of a sudden it’s an expected thing?

Jesus, I can not advise against these enough. I’ve been with other ISPs and had to make support calls to them and have never, ever found a place as unhelpful and clueless as this company. The support staff are horrible to deal with and the management are 20 times worse.

I’m not one to give out about little things of if things aren’t exactly as advertised. I’ve actually tried to be quite nice and helpful to the support staff but unfortunately they’ve just used that as an opportunity to **** me over.

I was stuck changing over to Magnet after Vodafone took over UTVs residential customers, and I didn’t want to stay with Vodafone.

Magnet seemed grerat at first. Decent price, quick sign up, the works. A week in, trouble started. I kept getting drops in connection every so often, which increased significantly in the evenings. Have had this going on for a month and a half now. I mainly use my internet for gaming, so constant drops are a pain.

Went through three customer service reps who were clearly just following the script and clearly not trained right. Guys weren’t sure what I was talking about half the time and there were lengthy pauses on their end. How are they supposed to do their job? I was told no less than four times that the issue was going to be fixed “soon” and that it was a “temporary issue”.

Called them this morning after a morning of d/c’s and got straight up told that the lines in Dundrum, Dublin, can’t handle fiber broadband, the d/c’s are from the line overloading and “eircom are replacing the lines”. When asked for an estimate of when this would be done the answer was “I don’t know”.

Another example of the garbage internet sold by cowboy companies in the country’s capitol, all overseen by the slackers at Eircom screwing the lot out of money and half-assing their lines. At this rate I’d be better off playing Guess Who over a piece of string and two tin cans. It’d be more reliable.

Went through a pile of providers including vodafone, sky, o2, eircom etc. who promised the moon and stars, all i was getting was between 1 and 3 mb speed. Rang up magnet and the rep told me i would get at least 11mb speed, i have it 7 months now and i couldnt be happier with the service, no drops or faults, im getting between 11.5 and 12 mb download. The router they sent was no use so im using an old one i had. I couldnt fault anything with magnet, great value for money especially when theres no cap on the downloads.

Never before have I come across an isp who cares so little about their business or their customers. The customer support does not return phone calls or follow up. Once you log a fault it’s up to you to chase them up and make them fix it. Don’t even think about logging a fault by email, you won’t get a response.

A quick summary of my experience.

- Modem delivered along with your broadband is ready letter. Of course nothing is ready.
- Text message saying your broadband is ready. Once again , no broadband.
- Next it’s Eircom’s fault , not theirs.
- Two months later, no broadband, no progress, nothing.
- Cancelled my order as they can’t even supply broadband.

I’ve recently left Eircom and joined Magnet with the ADSL2+ and unlimited phone package.
The DSL speeds are identical and consistent to Eircom once I got the DSL account info from the support line and connected with my own netgear dgnd4000 modem.
Yes the router they supply is useless, that said Eircom was the same story.
I pay the same but now I get unlimited phone calls too.
The support has been quite good so I’m surprised at some of the reviews.
I suspect a lot of the hassles are down to the cheap routers supplied by the broadband companies but I’ve come to expect it. Once you have your own kit and know how to set it up it should never be a problem anymore.
Perhaps when fibre comes along all this will be gladly forgotten history, a bit like those 56k modems!

Magnet send us a router (Technicolor) that keep crashing and loosing connection (Need to be restart, and sometimes resetted)
wouldn’t complain if the router wasn’t 5€/month.
The bandwidth is very very low 5.5Mbps on 24 Mbps Theoretical.

Customer service is nice, but tech support people aren’t qualified.

Magnet are the WORST internet provider EVER !!!!

Do not buy any of their services. The service was fine for me until it stopped working. However, then you are in trouble. Having to deal with their customer service is beyond a joke. You just waste your time and energy calling them.

They NEVER call you back, they make false claims, they contradict one another.. it’s really just not worth the hassle. I would stick with another provider.

Magnet is a bit of a two-sided sword. If things work, then there is nothing to complain about. I haven’t called them once since my service was established (took several months though…). However, if something is wrong, then it is a big pain to deal with what they call “customer service”.
My biggest complaint is the fact that there was never any follow-up. You call support and they promise either an update by email or phone, but nothing ever came back. Sometimes an employee would run a line test with the result that “everything should be working fine” when you obviously know that nothing is working fine.
If we had not been able to surf with our neighbours for a while, we’d certainly have gotten another service provider. A wait of several months for a working connection is simply not acceptable.
Once again, now that our connection is working, I have nothing to complain about.

Simply put. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. The worst company i have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. I received an email saying my service was active about 10 days after i ordered it but i was still offline. I rang customer support and told them the problem and they said they would look into it. A week later: nothing. After calling their PREMIUM PHONE NUMBER multiple times i was told that the case had be escalated to “Level 2″ and that i would be called back later that day. I rang them three days later after receiving no callback and was again told i was in the hands of “Level 2″ but i would be made a priority and should expect a call back from them. I told them i was already promised a callback and asked to be put through to Level 2 directly but apparently Level 2 dont have a phone number and i would just have to wait for them to call me. 5 Weeks and many phone calls later i still have no service. Get UPC or Stick with Eircom.

I know I’m in the minority but I have had no problems whatsoever with Magnet. I have the Swift package (basic DSL) 5Mb deal and I think U/L is 512Kb. I moved from an ISP where I got 1.7Mb D/L out of 2Mb. Switching over I got 3.8Mb out of 5. Ya it’s bad but in my location I wasn’t expecting much jump. Today I switched to the router Magnet provided (after months of Belkin) and my speed jumped to 4.5!

I’ve never seen a drop in service or any complications with XBOX or PS3. I’ve been testing the “no limit” policy they have and so far (well exceeding 100GB) speed has not dropped a bit!

For me living in the middle of nowhere (a couple miles from the exchange) Magnet is a godsend! I don’t have many options here but I’d highly recommend them at least for the Swift package! I’ve seen a lot (A LOT) of complaints towards Magnet but so far I haven’t had one! Maybe I’m lucky but in the next few years when I’m in an area with fibre or at least good cable broadband I’ll be searching out Magnet again!

I have Fiber to Home from Magnet. It’s fast and the price is reasonable – that’s not something I can complain on. At the beginning I was even very happy because they plugged me in remotely an hour after the call. But their Customer Service… It’s not even about the mistakes they make, but about how they deal with them.

It took them 2 days to move the service from one address to another (they did everything remotely).
When they started to charge me 0.01 Euro more than they should have I had to request for a manager because their only answer was “it’s our system’s fault, not ours”.
They charged me twice for the same period as they open a new account for me when I changed the address and they forgot to close the previous one.
When they open a new account for me (I didn’t want this), they didn’t move all my settings and they sent me a paper bill and charged about it claiming that “it’s their procedure”, even though I did not request a change of the bill type I receive.

They’re simply impudent enough to tell you, that it’s fine they charge you more when it’s “their system” or “their procedure” – even when it has no legal basis.

There should be a NO stars rating for this crowd, the fastest speed i’ve ever got is 4mbps, which would be understandable if I lived on a mountain in Alaska, I happen to live in Dublin about 4 mile from the city centre! when i rang the technical team, after about an hour of moving the box around the house i was told 4meg was all my line was capable of! I cancelled my contract and thought that the problems with this useless shower were nearing an end but how wrong I was!!! I’ve received another invoice even though i’ve paid up until the end of my contract. In short DO NOT GET MAGNET BROADBAND!! even if they can offer you fast broadband if there is a problem with it that requires an engineer to fix i.e a problem with the outside line running to your house, they accept no responsibility for it and suggest you hire an electrician to fix it!! madness.

Review by Annonymous, April 2, 2012

Woohooo I’ve just cancelled my contract with Magnet and I cant even begin to describe how good it feels.
Every dealing I have ever had with Magnet (including the recent cancellation) has been nothing short of painful, stressfull & a complete waste of my time. So from today – no more rude customer service reps, no more lack of accountability, no more waiting on promised call backs that NEVER come. Magnet – you have pushed another customer too far, you dont deserve a customer base. So long and may our paths never cross again!!

Review by Anonymous, March 29, 2012

In my own personal experience there was never too many problems with Magnet’s broadband service (24mb) – so it sounds like a good start right? But I had a package that included broadband, tv and telephone. Magnet Entertainment customer service is terrible and the problems I encountered were mainly with the TV/telephone end of things. Unfortunately for me Magnet hid behind the good broadband and I never recieved any real customer service. The broadban in general did not really let me down, but that does not excuse the treatment I got from Magnet and their staff. Truly terrible. They need to take a look at themselves……….it’s borderline criminal. Never calling back. Issuing bills, not resolving issues……the list goes on. One thing they are good at is invoicing and rudeness! In the end, I cancelled Magnet service altogether and I am now being pursued by a debt collector even before any “final bills” have been issued. So, the debt collector is contacting me and more bills keep arriving?? Makes sense right? I even had a bill issued to me in what seems to be an error but this has thankfully been removed from my account outstanding. I intend to fight this of course but dealing with Magnet is painful. Now I also owe them for return of equipoment. Do yourself a favour, avoid Magnet if you can it may start off well but it will surely decend into farce! And tell your family and friends too….AVOID

I wish I saw this page before….

I’ve signed up for Magnet 24Mb Simply Broadband on the 2nd of February. Since then it’s nothing but false promisses and shifting responsibility to Eircom.

Aparently any techinical issues have to be solved by Eircom, (which, frankly, I don’t care about, I have a contract with Magnet, not Eircom). They have a service turnaround time of one week, so if one thing is resolved, but the issue is still existing, it can take another week before the look into this again.

Right now, I am going to consult legal help to get money back for the costs that I made because of not having internet at home and to cancel the contract. They haven’t delivered anything (apart from the modem, that arrived within a few days) so far.

Again, the issue aparently lies within their contract with Eircom, but that is their problem, which they try to make mine. Which isn’t going to work for me.

First off I’m a business customer in Cork. I switched from the big “E” to Magnet 4 or 5 years ago as the service from the big “E” kept dropping sync about 4 or 5 times a day and was utterly useless.
Initially the service from Magnet was excellent, I was actually getting my 10Mb/768Kb speed with no drop-out at all, however since the end of November 2011 the service has dropped off completely.
Now my speed barely reaches 4Mb/256Kb on a good day and I have no end slow loading or of “site not found” time-outs, even though my router is syncing the DSL.

Now anyone with half a brain cell would say that there’s definitely an issue in the area, especially as I am not alone and a number of other businesses in the area are also having the same issues, even though they are not Magnet customers, but all I get from Magnet support staff is that the line is syncing and is up and running so there can’t be an issue.

I have never written such a poor review of any company but here it is, my first. Stay away from the DSL service and beware of false advertising. The Simply Broadband that is advertised on their site is not €40as stated, they wanted to charge me €50. I should have known at that point not to go for the service but I went ahead and ordered it anyway. However, after three weeks of waiting, I decided to cancel and find something else. What a nightmare! The customer service rep was rude and argumentative and after I asked to speak to a manager and someone finally called me backed, he argued with me and insisted that my service was working, which it wasn’t. It took at least ten minutes to get him to say that he would cancel the service. But the next day I got texts and emails telling me that my service was active. I think they are trying to get money from me for nothing. I still don’t have service. Another note, what is the €50 activation fee? If it works properly, it is just a matter of plugging in the wires. Stay away, it’s not worth the hassle.

I had to accept a verbal agreement but never received any written contract despite several requests, nor confirmation of whether the contract is active or not and if active since when (as i obviously would like to cancel and switch to a different provider). Needless to say, I am still waiting for the service to be delivered. They rely on Eircom for the phone line activation…I have been contacted by Eircom TWICE, by two different technicians who asked me to leave work and go home for the activation, on the very same day. No notice, so I couldn’t leave. I emailed Magnet to let them know afterwards that for almost two consecutive weeks someone would be at home, and to please reschedule the appointment for the activation. Nothing happened. I sent Magnet about ten emails asking for clarifications (not to mention the several calls)/written documents, they wouldn’t even call me back and if they did they wouldn’t provide me with a deadline, or send me the contract terms (I do not want to pay a 50 euros cancellation fee since me canceling would be due to their inability to provide the service), or confirmation that the contract has been revoked as per my request. Some random, pretentious ***** calls me every now and then to reassure me that someone is “having a look into it”, but that’s pretty much it.
Don’t get near them. Unprofessional, incompetent and rude.

Been a customer on their LLU 24Mbs for over a year. Service itself never went down once. Had a bit of an off start but quickly resolved. Sales support is ok, but their customer service / tech support is absolutely rubbish. No such thing as technical support, everything is escalated to “2nd Level” who you can’t contact vi phone.
Other than very poor phone support, the actual product is grand, perfect! very stable connection.
I would recommend this service for liability and fast DSL service. Don’t expect great phone support though.

If you can’t get UPC, Magnet LLU is an excellent choice, if you can avail of their 24Mb service it is excellent. But your max speed will depend on your distance from the exchange. We get 13Mb all the time, it’s 1:1 ratio so no line share, we actually get 1.4MB download speeds all day long. They also have no download cap, so it’s all you can eat broadband with no limits.

We have been a customer for over two years now and had zero down time, zero. We also have a phone but have never used it, as all we need is broadband. It is expensive when compared to UPC, but if UPC isn’t in your area you don’t have much choice.

I would recommend Magnet, just when you call double check that Magnet actually have equipment in your local phone exchange, so you can avail of their high speeds via local look unbundling.

Connection fails several times a day and takes a few minutes to come back… No need to say this is annoying and it makes it im[possible to do anything that requires a steady internet connection. I’ll switch as soon as my contract expires.

Having switched from wimax to magnet i have been using magnet for 3 months now and it is AMAZING!! I can finally game online again without having the slowest connection ever, whats more i can even game while my laptop and desktop are both on and actively using the internet, phone line is absolutely fine in comparrison to ****** wimax’s which sounded like the other person on the line was constantly in a wind tunnel, i can use torrent sites again and get ridiculous speeds of 900kbps, would recommend this service to everyone!!!

Tried to get Magnet set up for the last 2 months. When I initially ordered they told me it would take 2-3 days to set up. They have charged me a higher amount than they should for these 2 months, even tho I still don’t have the service. Every time I call, I am promised a callback, but so far after about 40 phone calls, no one has ever called back.
When I asked to talk to a manager, because i wanted to make a complaint I was simply told to change to another provider if i was not happy with the service (non existing so far).

Worse customer support I have ever experienced. They don’t even log evry call I make into their systems.

I would never recommend anyone to go with Magnet.

PS. This is the only provider except for Eircom I can get, and I am still waiting…

Have been with Magnet for a year now and had 2 seperate technical issues that caused me a lot of grief. I can forgive an occasional technical issue provided they get me back up and running quickly however this is where Magnet failed me BOTH TIMES. The main issue is that they have a Customer Care line rather than Tech Support line, so you get through to non techncial staff who log the complaint and promise a callback from “Level 2″. Sadly the call back doesnt come until you persistantly call and complain and threaten to move to another provider. Then when a “Level 2″ does eventually call you back and ask you to complete some troubleshooting steps, you then have to call back to customer care with the results and go through the same nighmare again because the non-technical staff are unable to make a decision based on your results. So an issue that should be resolved in 24 hrs can go on for weeks. Also on my last call to Magnet Customer Care I spoke to a completely disinterested staff member who after listening to me rant, repeated my complaint back to me in the following words”customer very unhappy at lack of callbacks, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah”. If I had someone working for me who addressed a customers comlaint with the words Blah Blah blah, I would sack him on the spot! Magnet, sort it out!! Look after your customers!

All I can say is avoid this company. Faulty line and no Broadband services for over a week. Up to 3 phone calls to their customer service line a day with several promises of a call back from their engineer to no avail. Worst still I am planning to switch to another provider so i rang in to request mu AUN number. No one in the customer service team seems to know where to find it. They promised to call me back. It is 48 hours on and still waiting.

I am so done with them!

Please Avoid!

I have been with Magnet since 2004. I think I am one of the first set of customers to join the company. I’ve had very little to complain about albeit, not the fastest speed in the world but reliable all the same. Until around last Christmas (2009) that is. Ever since the service has been quite erratic. Sometimes my phone lines would be unreachable only to come back again at later time. Both phone lines and internet have been down for about a week now and many phone calls and numerous promises of calls back after, no end in sight. Now ****** off and looking to change

Connection always going up and down. Lousy download times. Completely unreliable. Just as well that I have UPC as a backup. Am ditching them. Buyer Beware! Their claims on broadband speed are pure fantasy.

Persistent connection issues are one thing. But a complete unwillingness to address problems time and time again by the single worst customer support team I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with is quite another. After being promised callbacks over the same issue for about two months, not to mention a dozen unanswered emails, I politely asked to speak to a manager, I was promptly hung up on by a a chap called Kevin. Thanks Kevin, you made my decision to change ISP a whole lot easier.

An absolutely useless company. Avoid.

I’m with them since 2006. Going to switch to Smart Telecom. Tech Support ABSOLUTELY USELESS!!! Internet down for nearly 2 weeks. Spent 80 euro for phone calls to tech support and all they say is we will ring you back we cant do anything! And they wont ring you back. It took them week and a half to put call to eircom to fix my phone line. After that only two days eiroc guys comes 30 minutes and internet working away! WEEK AND A HALF THE DID NOTHING TO FIX ISSUE. HAD TO SHOUT ON THEM AND SAY THAT I’LL CHANGE ISP IF THEY WONT FIX IT B4 THEY DID IT.
Service itself not reliable at all- router frizzes far too often.
Stay away from them!

No complaints about Magnet whatsoever. Were on Digiweb previously, connection so bad rarely got over 2mbps down and 700kb up. With Magnet 10mb package consistently get 8-10 down, lightening fast connection. Use Blueface VoIP over Magnet and the call quality is perfect – with Digiweb couldn’t even make a phone call the quality was so poor. Customer service has been good when needed, which has been very rarely! Also great value as Digiweb were nearing E40 for their ‘service’ another E10 is more than worth it to upgrade to Magnet.

I’ve been with Magnet for several months now, on their 10mbps LLU ADSL product, and have had a great experience so far!

The sales guy was extremely helpful and well-informed, the equipment arrived on time, with useful, well-written documentation, and once I installed it, it worked straight away. Since then, bandwidth has been high, and the speed of the connection is always nippy regardless of the time of day. I haven’t noticed any downtime whatsoever.

I’ve previously been with Eircom, who were maddeningly slow at times. By the end of my 2 years with Eircom on the 3mbps product, I would measure my link and get figures of 600kbps! atrocious, and definitely not worth what I was paying. It’s worth noting that I was on an Eircom local/long-distance/DSL bundle — but my combined phone/internet bill is now cheaper with Magnet.

I now happily recommend Magnet to anyone who asks….

Can’t get their Fibre service but have their Magnet Force 10 product is still good. Install was pretty straight forward and the speed is great – youtube at 7:00 pm on my last provider was a lesson in patience :-)

I only rang customer care once about the wifi and got an intelligent response within 60 seconds! – it turned out I was the dummy!

Can’t complain and before Magnet I seened to always have a reason to complain

Note: I am on 8MB synchronous Fibre to the Home (FTTH).

After having had disastrous dealings with Eircom & NTL in the past, it was a pleasure to sign up with Magnet. I work from home minimum one day a week, plus most evenings, so I need a fast, stable connection.

We recently moved into a new development, one of our reasons for selecting this was the promised FTTH connection. Our 8MB synchronous connection really does provide 8MB (sometimes more) both up and down and makes surfing the net a real pleasure.

One slight issue is that a few sites are inaccessible via Magnet’s network, amazon.co.uk being the most important to me. Luckily, I can turn on my work VPN and bypass this issue. It has been reported to Magnet, but has not yet been resolved.

We have a SHDSL and an ADSL line with Magnet in work. The Zylex routers they supply are extremely flakey, their customer service is absolutely useless (no taking ownership of a problem, no returning phone calls and never any follow-up). It took 3 months after switching to Magnet for everything to work as desired. Many deadlines were missed for getting things, very much a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing.
