There should be a NO stars rating for this crowd, the fastest speed i’ve ever got is 4mbps, which would be understandable if I lived on a mountain in Alaska, I happen to live in Dublin about 4 mile from the city centre! when i rang the technical team, after about an hour of moving the box around the house i was told 4meg was all my line was capable of! I cancelled my contract and thought that the problems with this useless shower were nearing an end but how wrong I was!!! I’ve received another invoice even though i’ve paid up until the end of my contract. In short DO NOT GET MAGNET BROADBAND!! even if they can offer you fast broadband if there is a problem with it that requires an engineer to fix i.e a problem with the outside line running to your house, they accept no responsibility for it and suggest you hire an electrician to fix it!! madness.

Review by Annonymous, April 2, 2012

Woohooo I’ve just cancelled my contract with Magnet and I cant even begin to describe how good it feels.
Every dealing I have ever had with Magnet (including the recent cancellation) has been nothing short of painful, stressfull & a complete waste of my time. So from today – no more rude customer service reps, no more lack of accountability, no more waiting on promised call backs that NEVER come. Magnet – you have pushed another customer too far, you dont deserve a customer base. So long and may our paths never cross again!!

Review by Anonymous, March 29, 2012

In my own personal experience there was never too many problems with Magnet’s broadband service (24mb) – so it sounds like a good start right? But I had a package that included broadband, tv and telephone. Magnet Entertainment customer service is terrible and the problems I encountered were mainly with the TV/telephone end of things. Unfortunately for me Magnet hid behind the good broadband and I never recieved any real customer service. The broadban in general did not really let me down, but that does not excuse the treatment I got from Magnet and their staff. Truly terrible. They need to take a look at themselves……….it’s borderline criminal. Never calling back. Issuing bills, not resolving issues……the list goes on. One thing they are good at is invoicing and rudeness! In the end, I cancelled Magnet service altogether and I am now being pursued by a debt collector even before any “final bills” have been issued. So, the debt collector is contacting me and more bills keep arriving?? Makes sense right? I even had a bill issued to me in what seems to be an error but this has thankfully been removed from my account outstanding. I intend to fight this of course but dealing with Magnet is painful. Now I also owe them for return of equipoment. Do yourself a favour, avoid Magnet if you can it may start off well but it will surely decend into farce! And tell your family and friends too….AVOID

I wish I saw this page before….

I’ve signed up for Magnet 24Mb Simply Broadband on the 2nd of February. Since then it’s nothing but false promisses and shifting responsibility to Eircom.

Aparently any techinical issues have to be solved by Eircom, (which, frankly, I don’t care about, I have a contract with Magnet, not Eircom). They have a service turnaround time of one week, so if one thing is resolved, but the issue is still existing, it can take another week before the look into this again.

Right now, I am going to consult legal help to get money back for the costs that I made because of not having internet at home and to cancel the contract. They haven’t delivered anything (apart from the modem, that arrived within a few days) so far.

Again, the issue aparently lies within their contract with Eircom, but that is their problem, which they try to make mine. Which isn’t going to work for me.

First off I’m a business customer in Cork. I switched from the big “E” to Magnet 4 or 5 years ago as the service from the big “E” kept dropping sync about 4 or 5 times a day and was utterly useless.
Initially the service from Magnet was excellent, I was actually getting my 10Mb/768Kb speed with no drop-out at all, however since the end of November 2011 the service has dropped off completely.
Now my speed barely reaches 4Mb/256Kb on a good day and I have no end slow loading or of “site not found” time-outs, even though my router is syncing the DSL.

Now anyone with half a brain cell would say that there’s definitely an issue in the area, especially as I am not alone and a number of other businesses in the area are also having the same issues, even though they are not Magnet customers, but all I get from Magnet support staff is that the line is syncing and is up and running so there can’t be an issue.

I have never written such a poor review of any company but here it is, my first. Stay away from the DSL service and beware of false advertising. The Simply Broadband that is advertised on their site is not €40as stated, they wanted to charge me €50. I should have known at that point not to go for the service but I went ahead and ordered it anyway. However, after three weeks of waiting, I decided to cancel and find something else. What a nightmare! The customer service rep was rude and argumentative and after I asked to speak to a manager and someone finally called me backed, he argued with me and insisted that my service was working, which it wasn’t. It took at least ten minutes to get him to say that he would cancel the service. But the next day I got texts and emails telling me that my service was active. I think they are trying to get money from me for nothing. I still don’t have service. Another note, what is the €50 activation fee? If it works properly, it is just a matter of plugging in the wires. Stay away, it’s not worth the hassle.

Slow. Drops connections. Packet loss. Terrible customer service.
Their only saving grace is their tech support, although I have never had to use them for more than simple matters.

I have been trying to get Magnet installed since November. I have made 5 phone calls to try and get an enigineer to no avail, and depsite promising internet connections of 24MB my internet connection last Sunday was 0.097 MB. I have never managed to get it over 1MB. I am now on the 6th phone call.!!! Rating from 1 to 10 is at 1.

Magnet Broadband: just stay away. I have requested the service over TWO months ago. I had to accept a verbal agreement but never received any written contract despite several requests, nor confirmation of whether the contract is active or not and if active since when (as i obviously would like to cancel and switch to a different provider). Needless to say, I am still waiting for the service to be delivered. They rely on Eircom for the phone line activation…I have been contacted by Eircom TWICE, by two different technicians who asked me to leave work and go home for the activation, on the very same day. No notice, so I couldn’t leave. I emailed Magnet to let them know afterwards that for almost two consecutive weeks someone would be at home, and to please reschedule the appointment for the activation. Nothing happened. I sent Magnet about ten emails asking for clarifications (not to mention the several calls)/written documents, they wouldn’t even call me back and if they did they wouldn’t provide me with a deadline, or send me the contract terms (I do not want to pay a 50 euros cancellation fee since me canceling would be due to their inability to provide the service), or confirmation that the contract has been revoked as per my request. Some random, pretentious ***** calls me every now and then to reassure me that someone is “having a look into it”, but that’s pretty much it.
Don’t get near them. Unprofessional, incompetent and rude.

Been a customer on their LLU 24Mbs for over a year. Service itself never went down once. Had a bit of an off start but quickly resolved. Sales support is ok, but their customer service / tech support is absolutely rubbish. No such thing as technical support, everything is escalated to “2nd Level” who you can’t contact vi phone.
Other than very poor phone support, the actual product is grand, perfect! very stable connection.
I would recommend this service for liability and fast DSL service. Don’t expect great phone support though.

If you can’t get UPC, Magnet LLU is an excellent choice, if you can avail of their 24Mb service it is excellent. But your max speed will depend on your distance from the exchange. We get 13Mb all the time, it’s 1:1 ratio so no line share, we actually get 1.4MB download speeds all day long. They also have no download cap, so it’s all you can eat broadband with no limits.

We have been a customer for over two years now and had zero down time, zero. We also have a phone but have never used it, as all we need is broadband. It is expensive when compared to UPC, but if UPC isn’t in your area you don’t have much choice.

I would recommend Magnet, just when you call double check that Magnet actually have equipment in your local phone exchange, so you can avail of their high speeds via local look unbundling.

I can finally game online again without having the slowest connection ever, whats more i can even game while my laptop and desktop are both on and actively using the internet, phone line is absolutely fine in comparrison to ****** wimax’s which sounded like the other person on the line was constantly in a wind tunnel, i can use torrent sites again and get ridiculous speeds of 900kbps, would recommend this service to everyone!!!

Tried to get Magnet set up for the last 2 months. When I initially ordered they told me it would take 2-3 days to set up. They have charged me a higher amount than they should for these 2 months, even tho I still don’t have the service. Every time I call, I am promised a callback, but so far after about 40 phone calls, no one has ever called back.
When I asked to talk to a manager, because i wanted to make a complaint I was simply told to change to another provider if i was not happy with the service (non existing so far).

Worse customer support I have ever experienced. They don’t even log evry call I make into their systems.

I would never recommend anyone to go with Magnet.

PS. This is the only provider except for Eircom I can get, and I am still waiting…

Have been with Magnet for a year now and had 2 seperate technical issues that caused me a lot of grief. I can forgive an occasional technical issue provided they get me back up and running quickly however this is where Magnet failed me BOTH TIMES. The main issue is that they have a Customer Care line rather than Tech Support line, so you get through to non techncial staff who log the complaint and promise a callback from “Level 2″. Sadly the call back doesnt come until you persistantly call and complain and threaten to move to another provider. Then when a “Level 2″ does eventually call you back and ask you to complete some troubleshooting steps, you then have to call back to customer care with the results and go through the same nighmare again because the non-technical staff are unable to make a decision based on your results. So an issue that should be resolved in 24 hrs can go on for weeks. Also on my last call to Magnet Customer Care I spoke to a completely disinterested staff member who after listening to me rant, repeated my complaint back to me in the following words”customer very unhappy at lack of callbacks, Blah, Blah, Blah, Blah”. If I had someone working for me who addressed a customers comlaint with the words Blah Blah blah, I would sack him on the spot! Magnet, sort it out!! Look after your customers!

All I can say is avoid this company. Faulty line and no Broadband services for over a week. Up to 3 phone calls to their customer service line a day with several promises of a call back from their engineer to no avail. Worst still I am planning to switch to another provider so i rang in to request mu AUN number. No one in the customer service team seems to know where to find it. They promised to call me back. It is 48 hours on and still waiting.

I am so done with them!

Please Avoid!

I have been with Magnet since 2004. I think I am one of the first set of customers to join the company. I’ve had very little to complain about albeit, not the fastest speed in the world but reliable all the same. Until around last Christmas (2009) that is. Ever since the service has been quite erratic. Sometimes my phone lines would be unreachable only to come back again at later time. Both phone lines and internet have been down for about a week now and many phone calls and numerous promises of calls back after, no end in sight. Now ****** off and looking to change

Persistent connection issues are one thing. But a complete unwillingness to address problems time and time again by the single worst customer support team I have ever had the misfortune of dealing with is quite another. After being promised callbacks over the same issue for about two months, not to mention a dozen unanswered emails, I politely asked to speak to a manager, I was promptly hung up on by a a chap called Kevin. Thanks Kevin, you made my decision to change ISP a whole lot easier.

An absolutely useless company. Avoid.

Spent 80 euro for phone calls to tech support and all they say is we will ring you back we cant do anything! And they wont ring you back. It took them week and a half to put call to eircom to fix my phone line. After that only two days eiroc guys comes 30 minutes and internet working away! WEEK AND A HALF THE DID NOTHING TO FIX ISSUE. HAD TO SHOUT ON THEM AND SAY THAT I’LL CHANGE ISP IF THEY WONT FIX IT B4 THEY DID IT.
Service itself not reliable at all- router frizzes far too often.
Stay away from them!

No complaints about Magnet whatsoever. Were on Digiweb previously, connection so bad rarely got over 2mbps down and 700kb up. With Magnet 10mb package consistently get 8-10 down, lightening fast connection. Use Blueface VoIP over Magnet and the call quality is perfect – with Digiweb couldn’t even make a phone call the quality was so poor. Customer service has been good when needed, which has been very rarely! Also great value as Digiweb were nearing E40 for their ‘service’ another E10 is more than worth it to upgrade to Magnet.

I’ve been with Magnet for several months now, on their 10mbps LLU ADSL product, and have had a great experience so far!

The sales guy was extremely helpful and well-informed, the equipment arrived on time, with useful, well-written documentation, and once I installed it, it worked straight away. Since then, bandwidth has been high, and the speed of the connection is always nippy regardless of the time of day. I haven’t noticed any downtime whatsoever.

I’ve previously been with Eircom, who were maddeningly slow at times. By the end of my 2 years with Eircom on the 3mbps product, I would measure my link and get figures of 600kbps! atrocious, and definitely not worth what I was paying. It’s worth noting that I was on an Eircom local/long-distance/DSL bundle — but my combined phone/internet bill is now cheaper with Magnet.

I now happily recommend Magnet to anyone who asks….

Note: I am on 8MB synchronous Fibre to the Home (FTTH).

After having had disastrous dealings with Eircom & NTL in the past, it was a pleasure to sign up with Magnet. I work from home minimum one day a week, plus most evenings, so I need a fast, stable connection.

We recently moved into a new development, one of our reasons for selecting this was the promised FTTH connection. Our 8MB synchronous connection really does provide 8MB (sometimes more) both up and down and makes surfing the net a real pleasure.

One slight issue is that a few sites are inaccessible via Magnet’s network, amazon.co.uk being the most important to me. Luckily, I can turn on my work VPN and bypass this issue. It has been reported to Magnet, but has not yet been resolved.

We have a SHDSL and an ADSL line with Magnet in work. The Zylex routers they supply are extremely flakey, their customer service is absolutely useless (no taking ownership of a problem, no returning phone calls and never any follow-up). It took 3 months after switching to Magnet for everything to work as desired. Many deadlines were missed for getting things, very much a case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand was doing.
