Have well and truly gone out of contract with Nova. There is now another wireless broadband operator in my area, but I have no intention whatsoever of changing. The service from Nova is excellent. Price is reasonable and the staff are just a pleasure to deal with. Keep up the good work . Dave, Norma, Jessica and all who work at Nova you do a superb job!!!.

Living in a rural area my options for a ISP are limited. So I heard about Nova and said why not give them a go. And I must say its been a complete nightmare. I have constant disconnects and have speeds dropping down to the 1 Mb range during the day, The only time I can get a reliable connection is in the dead of night. Despite paying €47 a month for speeds up to 10 Mb download I rarely see such speeds during the day. I’ve contacted customer care and they’ve said its on my end,Could be the router could be the computer, Could be interference etc etc. I’ve tried everything and I’ve come to the conclusion its just a awful service and I’ll be looking for a new provider as soon as possible.

I’ve had the 20MB package for a week now and it’s a huge upgrade from my old 3MB Eir DSL line. Latency is halved (37ms->18ms), and I’m getting a steady connection of between 14->18Mbps, which isn’t bad given I’m 18km from the mast.
Jim the installer was easy to deal with and left no mess (though no drilling was required) and was happy to answer any questions I had about the technology. I had one issue with the firmware on the device being out of date and having a known and exploited vulnerability, and I contacted support. Before I knew it there was a mail from Nova apologising about the firmware being out of date , and letting me know they’d already remotely updated it. On the security front they’ve changed:
1. The default IP address (specified on the device docs)
2. The default port
3. The default user name and password
, so it’s good to see a company taking security seriously particularly given more recent issues with Eir’s DSL modem vulnerability.

Re. the ratings, I docked one star for reliability as the speed does occasionally drop to 4MB, but that’s quite rare, and the vast majority of the time it’s within 70-90% of advertised speeds. Given that I’m paying the same I was paying for 3MB with Eir, it’s great value for money.
Overall very happy so far

I’ve had Nova for 3 years now with decent service. It loses connection about once per month on average for half a day or so. There is very few people to talk to at the company if there is an issue so they call you back for billing or technical issues, this usually takes about one day. They just recently told me that i owed €341.00 from 6 months of billing between February and August that they forgot to bill me on. Since i no longer have access to the account that payed the bills i was unable to determine whether it had been payed or not but i am sure i would have noticed an extra €341.00 in my tight budget. There was no resolve given, just a €20 discount and i was forced to pay just before Christmas leaving my child without presents this year. I’ve never dealt with a company that charges people for their own mistake if there even was one. Very unhappy.

Wouldn’t recommend it if you want to watch videos in high definition or play games without lag. There is better options and this is not a broad band anyone should stick to.

For many years I have been totally, absolutely, and completely frustrated with all my broadband suppliers. I live in rural Tipperary and the maximum speed which I could ever get was (on a really good day) 1.7 mb.
Then one night coming home I noticed a billboard for Nova Broadband. Yes my area was within the covered area. There has to be some snag, I thought. In any case, I contacted the office, and spoke to a very efficient, friendly and courteous lady named Jessica. She arranged an installation date for me. On Thursday last I moved my phone and broadband to Nova. I had 1.7, and by the time the Nova installer (Declan, neat tidy, very efficient) had left I had 20 mbs. Happy days Nova. Absolutely delighted to have found a company that will deal with me honestly, fairly and provide the level of service which they promise.
Go raibh mile mile maith agaibh.

Hi guys,
I just want to thank you for the great service we are experiencing since we joined your network, it has been above and beyond what we imagined.
Because we live in a rural community we’ve had a few companies offer a slow broadband connection in the past with speed been slowed down when you reach a certain amount of data usage, this is especiall annoying trying to run a business from home. Thankfully your different packages allows us to choose what quantity of data we want at a price that is not more than we were paying in the past.
We need to upload and download very large files and hence this has helped us greatly.
You will never realise the benefit your company means to our business, after nine years looking and searching we have found the one that I will no doubt work for us into the future.
I have and would highly rate your company to anyone looking for broadband.
Also the girls in customer support are very knowledgable and have always been so mannerly and kind on the phone.
Five stars all round.
Tom from Tipperary.

Just like to say that As a subscriber to nova broadband for approximately 26 months now we have never been happier , the area we live in ( upper Glanmire) proved difficult for other broadband providers and it was ultimately Nova Broadband who prevailed in keeping us connected to the outside world with consistency , so for this “Give Credit whom credit is due” , thanks guys

I came across the Nova broadband company at the Mallow homes and garden show last year. This company’s stand was the find of the show last year. I met some lovely helpful people who checked all my details on their coverage maps and were pretty sure they could solve my problem and deliver me reliable broadband. Within a week I had an engineer at my house ( Declan was his name if i remember correctly) the installation was very fast and professional and within an hour I was connected and have never looked back. there have been some minor issues but the customer service is fantastic helpful and honest they tell you what the issue is and how they are dealing with it. There is also good communication about planned maintenance and down time. I have no hesitation in recommending Nova Broadband as a first choice for rural broadband instead of the last resort. The current government and rural affairs department need to look at this company and get them rolling out good quality rural broadband with good speeds, fair limits, reliable service, great customer care, and reasonable pricing.

Consistent speeds, no drop off, no interruptions in the past five months of having the service and I couldn’t be happier if you poured carlsberg into a ronseal tin.

Living in rural Tipp broadband through phone line is not an option. I had been using a mobile B.B. provider for a number of years with mixed success.
Then I got Nova and have not regretted a second.
Great and consistent ping times, consistent transfer speeds and extremely reliable service.
Customer care is great whether I use email, facebook or phone as means of contact.
I cannot speak highly enough about Nova Broadband!!

I have been a customer of Nova for over 2 years and would have no hesitation recommending their product. Replaced a fixed line product and have never looked back.
Signed up for the 10mb package, and it works very well for me. I work from home quite a bit, and the speed is consistent, and the connection is very reliable.
On the two occasions in 2 years that I recall the connection dropping, customer support were prompt, professional and a pleasure to deal with.

I dont understand how nova broadband has such good reviews like there are on the website.
My experience with nova : i ordered my broadband, on the website the instalation time was one to two weeks. I payed the instalation fees of 99 euro and recieved an email from nova broadband that i will be waiting two to three weeks for instalation. After three weeks i have still not been contacted, i rang the customer care and i was told i have to wait few more days. After the few days i had to contact them again and was informed that the installer would contact me within an hour. Two days later i had still not recieved a call. Four weeks and i still dont have internet. I cancelled my order and asked for an refund of the instalation fees.
VERY DISAPPOINTED.

I’m delighted with Nova broadband, we used a number of services before finding out about Nova, but all were too slow and had intermitting service with bad weather. Nova gives the speed it says and never goes down. There support is good, with very friendly staff.

Just got Nova.Initially I thought it would fail the survey as I’m a bit out of Cork city (North of Tower Village along the old Kerry Road). The Installer (Dave) managed to acquire a direct line of sight mast south of my house, literally ‘beaming’ what I signed up for (10Megs).The technology DOES require direct line of sight view of the mast. But like me,if you think you’re too remote, check Nova’s coverage map & if your area is within that area, give them a try.I rented a house once that had UPC 25Megs & I thought that that was astonishing speed – instantaneous streaming etc but I now have similar adequate speed.I would though advise Nova to put a a logo on their dish for obvious reasons (advertising).Early days but genuine local company – can’t fault them.

We just got Nova installed at the beginning of this week and it is far far better than what we had before!

For the first couple of days the service kept dropping on us but it turned out to be a faulty router (can’t be helped). Nova were very helpful when we called them and provided us with a new router right away. I was passing Little Island so I popped in and picked it up the same day. It has worked fine since then.

We are paying for the 10mb service and when we have done speed checks it is normally over 9mb (lowest was just under 7mb, jumped back to over 9mb a couple of minutes later).

I know it’s only a week, but so far so good! :)

Very unhappy with Nova. With them now a few months and I have to say that compaired to the last ISP that I was with for over 10 years Nova couldn’t hold a candle close to them! When Nova works properly it’s not too bad. Speeds are pretty fast I must say and the customer service is very good. They are a nice bunch of people to talk with, very obliging and professional. The only reason that I decided to change to Nova is because they offer unlimited wireless packages and are the only ISP that I am aware of that offer this service. I’m fed up of everytime I look at my iPhone it tells me that I’m not connected and I’m on 4G and my wife’s iPhone is the same…keeps dropping out of connection. In conclusion if my last ISP had done unlimited wireless packages, I wouldn’t have gone near Nova.

As a rural customer in East Cork I have limited broadband options available however when I discovered Nova in early 2015 I thought my prayers were answered. Unfortunately within a short period of time the service began to deteriorate, first the speed was an issue which was eventually resolved and then it was intermittent connection which was as equally frustrating. Customer service have tried to butter me up by suggesting improvements are forthcoming, time to switch!

Installation took about 10 days from ordering. Dish was positioned on the chimney with the wiring hidden nicely. The rest of the installation was also done very efficiently with plenty of friendly additional advice/information given by the engineer. System was up and running very quickly and immediately noticed a quick service. After a few days of using the service the reliability and consistency of speed appears to be good.

I got the 5mb line and connected my smart tv to the router using an ethernet cable and there is no lag whatsoever. Wi-Fi over the router can occasionally be a bit sketchy but that’s rare enough, overall I’m delighted with the service and its far better than any other internet provider in this area.

They put it in the perfect place and the router was put in a perfect spot also. We opted for the 10MB package and we were told that it was up to 10Mb, but every speedtest we have done, we have been hitting just on the 10Mb. I would highly recommend Nova Broadband to anyone who can’t get good internet in their area!

The ISP does what it said it would do and my speeds are exactly what was predicted at any time day or night. I took the 5 Mps package and that is exactly what I get. The installer did a good job with no fuss.
The only negative comment I have is that the price is a little on the high side but compared to my previous cheaper option the service is way ahead.

I’ve been with Nova for well over a month now and so far it’s been great. And very likely to continue, having looked at other Nova reviews on this site. The installation was bang on schedule and the technician was very diligent. I’m on ‘My Wave 5M’ and the speed is consistently hitting well over 4 mbps up to the 5, enough for music downloads, streaming video etc. (not so good with HD video but Nova do advise ‘My Wave 10M’ for this, so no complaints here).

I would recommend Nova to anyone looking for reliable broadband.

Nova, May be slightly dearer than phone line options but as we live 5 miles from the exchange the comparable price was 1/10 of the speed over wire. Just changed over from eircom wired to Wireless Nova and have entered the age of modern tech.
Havn’t had any issues yet so no real test of customer service can say for installation, Installer turned up when said they would and did a very good job. Have recommended to two neighbours.

I have been a customer of Nova networks since November 2005. Started with a 1 meg service. At the time Nova networks were the cats pyjamas. I meg tended to mean darn close to 1 meg. They gave exceptional service and were willing to work to get it right. It was a small company then.
I now pay for a ten meg service. What that really means is download speed will not exceed 10 meg. A lot of the time speedtest.net will report close to six meg. Frequently it means 2 or 3 meg. I have of course tried their support line. The response has varied from having a look at it which results in it improving for a while, to well that’s the best we can do. Comment like “there must be a tree in the way”, one that is there one week and gone the next. I can get ten meg or two meg across 5 minutes. It does not matter if it is stormy or calm, raining or dry.
The upshot is that when it works Nova is very good. If you don’t have access to a good quality copper wire connection and you need to be wireless and Nova works, they are very competitive. When it doesn’t work, tough, if it’s not an easy fix they can now afford to do without any bothersome customers.
Don’t waste money on their expensive phone package. For VOIP get something like a Siemens Gigaset IP phone on Amazon and set up an account with one of the Betamax companies. Local calls are free or very cheap. Calls to mobiles as little as 0.6c a minute. US mobiles or landlines €0.004/ minute. Try Goldfish for incoming calls. I am starting to sound like an advert, but VOIP can be so cheap and works well if you have a decent broadband.

I’ve had the 20Mb business package from Nova for a few months now and so far the speed of the line and the quality of the service has been fantastic.

I had a small issue at the start with a faulty router, but once that was sorted I’ve had consistently fast broadband. I live in a rural area and was pleasantly surprised that I was able to get such speeds given that Eircom couldn’t even offer me a 3 Mb line. Even during very high winds and heavy rain recently I didn’t notice any decease in speed or quality.

I would highly recommend Nova.

Unfortunately recent events have tainted my view of this company and the broadband service they provide.

In particular, our previously reliable 5Mbs connection has been plain awful for the past month, and the company are powerless to do anything about it. The connection drops upwards of 20 times a day, very frequently in the peak evening hours, often (several times a week) leaving us with no connectivity what-so-ever for an hour or two, several evenings a week.

Repeated calls, emails and tickets to the Nova technical support team have yielded no improvements to the situation. Indeed, the support staff readily acknowledge there is a problem and also acknowledge that they have no idea if, or when, it might be fixed.

For anyone reading this, I live in the Ladysbridge area of east Cork. I’ve been with Nova since late 2008, but am now looking at alternatives.

I’m with Nova since December, living in Carrignavar/Glenville are. They set up my connection within a few days of calling. It works perfectly very fast connection, multiple devises work perfectly from it along with Netflix. The customer service team are brilliant to deal with compared to other suppliers. I would highly recommend this service.

We are a small business based in North Cork. Eircom couldn’t provide high speed internet, we moved to a Satellite based system which was attenuated and which often gave problems, in particular there was significant lag on the phone line.
We switched to Nova Broadband about 4 months ago and are absolutely thrilled with the service. We have had consistently good speeds and the reliability has been 100%. Skype, dropbox, everything works brilliantly.
I am free from line rental and consider Nova to be excellent value for money. We are recommending Nova to all of our neighbours.

Hi, I live in Ballyhooly and decided to get wireless broadband so as to be independent from all the line rental companies. Having seen the ad for Nova on a roadside poster I gave them a call and am delighted that I did. I am now completely free from my phone line and my internet speed is just as good. It took 2 weeks for the installation to take place but was well worth the wait. Highly recommended.

Worst isp ever, had imagine 4g before, it wasnt great but way better than this bucket of amateurs.First thing-it took more than 2 weeks to have installed, and same day problems started-unstable connection speed varies from 0.01mb to 5mb within one minute, couldnt use skype even,to send mail took ages, rather would use pigeon to make it faster. So call it state of the art technical support was notified about issues, but all they could advise is to switch off and on yolk nailed on the chimney, it helped for a while but not for long.State of the art customer service was contacted 8days ago, with promises to send engineer to sort the things, nobody turned yet…shame

It can handle multiple users without any issue .. Customer service are also really helpful and know what they’re talking about which is always a plus.. Only went down for a day , because of the storms meanwhile our eircom line was out for about a week.
Thanks Nova!!

I have been a customer with Nova for near on two years. The broadband was really good, and I wrote a review on here previously to highlight what was an excellent service. Lately however, as more people have moved into the apartment building where I live, the internet has become very congested. I have contacted Nova to try and get this resolved, however I feel as though I have been given the run around. All I was told was that my modem was now out of guarantee and it was suggested that I buy a new modem, even though I know that the modem itself is perfectly fine.

It seems that there is a lot of channel interference in the building which is causing my wifi to crash constantly. My wifi is unusable after 5pm, meaning I have to run a cable directly to my laptop. This is not practical as I have a one year old infant who likes to pull at everything.

The only help I received was advice on how to use their self help page on the Nova website. The help advised me how to try different channel settings on my modem. Unfortunately none of these have worked. I am now in the process of searching for a new internet provider as I feel I am paying €37 for a crap service that does not fulfill m needs. I am currently paying for 10mb broadband, however I am lucky to get 1mb when it does actually work.

I am no longer able to send printing jobs to my printer as I have no confidence that the job will send over the wifi. I have wasted numerous ink cartridges and countless reams of paper as a result of printing jobs failing. I am totally frustrated and I hope that this type of review will spur Nova into lifting their game into providing a service that actually works.

We are living in the Mallow/ Doneraile area. We had been having trouble with our broadband since we moved to the area. The internet speed meant using the internet was extremely slow especially in the evenings when most needed. Working from home was very slow and downloading anything from sites like RTE player or netflix virtually impossible. Since joining nova broadband our internet speed is a dream no matter what time of the day it is used. We found the customer support excellent and once we made the call we had our internet installed within a few days. The option of getting a package to include a land line was very attractive especially given there is no rental fee with this. We would recommend nova broadband if living North Cork especially given the inferiority of the other options available.

I used eircom/vodafone/sky. In short it is an eircom line. I live in killavullen area. Eircom told me they have no intention to upgrade the line. Most recently with sky things got worse and worse. From 5.30-11pm relatively no broadband. I called nova after seeing a sign up in Bridgetown area. Anne Marie talked me through the contract. I chose 10mb package and got set up very quickly by John, really fast and tidy worker. I was amazed to see 9.82mbps. Now for the first time in ages everything works. Netflix, Apple TV, the lot.

So far Nova is great and even when it was out during the storms, they updated Facebook with regular updates.
I strongly suggest that if you have internet problems and you are able to get nova, stop wasting time and getting frustrated and get it in.
Only downside is that phone calls may be expensive for overseas.

Have Nova Networks for the past month. It is fantastic. For less money than Eircom 3mb I am actually getting 10mb!! Highly recommended!

Living in the Killavullen area where I had been an Eircom broad band customer for around 7 years. I paid roughly the same as I do now with Nova (still too much, I think broadband is overly expensive in Ireland) but in the last 2 years or so my broadband had started to drop on a daily basis. Eircom support was ok but I was told they could see no technical issues. Anyway Nova is faster and if there is a problem (very rarely) it is usually fixed relatively quickly. I would ask for more updates on the facebook page when/if there is a problem. That way I don’t have to call you !! Overall I’m delighted I moved – I would recommend Nova.

I was paying €22 a month for 10GB, i may as well have been flushing it down the toilet, the speed was so bad i couldnt down load anything.. had to try and limit the devices to 1 instead of the 5 they advise… back to Nova. I am paying €47 a month and its the only bill i have no problem paying :-) the speed is so quick, i have signed up for sky on demand and netflix, i can watch anything i have down loaded with in minutes if not seconds. In the house i have an Ipad, Iphone, Android tablet & phone, 2 sky boxes, netflix box and sometimes a laptop and i havent noticed any drop in speed, thanks you so much Nova. I’ve reviewed Nova before, shortly after connecting for the first time.
I’ve been a satisfied Nova customer for a few years now.

I recently moved house and having checked that Nova was available at the new address we booked in the date to have the antenna installed. The cost for the move is €75 – which is very reasonable considering the installer comes, erects a new antenna and runs the cable to your desired location in your house.

Like clockwork, we’re up and running at the new address. Compared to other ISP’s this was a very swift and painless process.

Connection Quality
I’ve got the 20Mb package. Netflix streams perfectly at 1080 Super HD (Nova is peered with Netflix Open Connect Content Delivery Network) so the picture looks crystal clear on our TV in the living room. Our children also use the connection simultaneously for online gaming and streaming without any issues.

Gaming
Low latency connection = lag free gaming :)

Reliability
There has been very few occasions with downtime (~2 times in the last 12 months for me) – but the Nova twitter feed and facebook page is updated promptly with status updates so you don’t need to spend time second guessing your own setup. Scheduled maintenance occurs during off peak times and is advertised well in advance.

I recommend Nova to anyone who is in an area and can avail of their service. A great ISP and we’re lucky to have them in Cork.

I left a review back on Aug 25 2011 which offers far more detail of my experience with Nova for those interested, but I wanted to just provide an update to mark the end of my two and a half years of exemplary service. I’m moving house next month and regretfully Nova doesn’t cover the new location so I’ll be looking for a new ISP there. Since my last review, my experience with Nova has been even better. All the positives I mentioned continued, but the initial hiccups never returned. The couple of small issues I did have were dealt with promptly and sometimes even ‘after hours’. Again I couldn’t recommend Nova Broadband highly enough, and I wish them every success as a company as they deserve it.

Living in Kilworth, there are not many options for broadband access if you want reliable service. The Eircom product, sold en-masse to Vodafone, Magnet, etc; is pretty much the only choice for higher speeds. By higher speeds I mean, “potential” 7mb!

I started looking in earnest for a better service in July, and having no other options, reached out to Nova early in August to ask if they had any thoughts of heading towards Kilworth. Naturally I expected to draw a blank, but it helps to try. Thank goodness I did! Not only did I get a very prompt reply from Ann-Marie (who seems to share similar feats of prompt response in other reviews); I also had an installer onsite in two weeks assessing my location. The installer was very upfront, I was about 20km at least away from the closest beacon. However, Nova was coming to the area so worst case, wait a bit; best case they might be able to deliver lower service.

Well, here’s the facts:
Two weeks ago, the installer arrived and installed the wireless antennae (it took longer as he couldn’t put it on the chimney due to the wood core). He proceeded to test the connection and said I should be able to get 10-15mb, but I would only be charged on the stable speed. Oh no I didn’t… amazingly, I got a full 19.8mb, and almost a full 1mb upload (literally particles lower than the best option).

I spent some time assessing my magnet speed the week before and the results are staggering. Note that the same devices on my end were used: a Linksys E2000 wireless router downstairs and WAP4400 access point upstairs, the only difference is DSL vs direct ethernet.

Magnet average speed: 3.5mb down (best with no other devices attached), 256kb up, +200ms latency average spiking up to 1600ms at times; charge per month: €40.66 PLUS I needed a phone line.
Nova average speed: 19.5mb (lowest 16mb when pushing downloads on other devices), 950kb up, 13-20ms latency, worst recorded 22ms at stress levels. Charge per month: around €56. No phone line needed. Note: you can get a phone for a few euro a month, total cost for package with phone still much cheaper than the closest Vodafone equivalent.

I have the following devices attached most the time:
Wii U
Sky
2 tablets
3 laptops (occasionally 4)
4 smartphones
A few other knicknacks from time to time.

If you are in Kilworth, and want good broadband provision with high speed access, this is the provider to go to. Leave the rest behind.

OK, I admit it. I dropped Nova some years ago for poor service. I’ve tried everything else to no avail so in desperation I tried again. I was promised good speed but then then all the providers say that. Once installed, it’s a different story. WOW. 20ms latency up to 20 meg speed. I opted for only 5 meg but when installed- bang speedtest.net 5.96. I’m happy out. So far, it couldn’t be better. this is true even during high traffic periods like weekend nights.
Five stars!

I’ve been with Nova Networks for several month now.

1. Installation
Engineer was brilliant – had met him before when he worked at a different company but he’d not lost his professionalism or personality. Took time to talk to me and explain what was going on with the installation. He even told me that he’d left some ‘extra’ cable just in case they had to come back if the trees got in the way during the summer growth. Took him just about an hour to complete.
2. Speed
As requested, I did a speedtest.net and had 11.65Mb down and 1Mb up speeds (not gonna complain about the .34Mb). Even at peak times I’m still getting ~12Mb/1Mb.
3. Bandwidth
Okay, yes the 6GB cap each day is a little frustrating particularly since some games (WoW/D3/SC2 to name a few I play) come in at triple that amount meaning you have to download the game (or update) over several days. It’s a restriction but to be fair I can deal with it if it means my overall speed during times when I’m within 6GB isn’t compromised.
4. Customer Support
I reported a problem with timeouts and lag in the first couple of weeks and when I contacted CS I was quickly advised that there was a problem with load on their local tower (or something similar) that was due to be upgraded in the next few weeks. That was months ago and since then I’ve not had any problems with their services.
5. Value for Money
This is a little on the expensive side for me as it’s approximately €10 more expensive than the average broadband but again I’m willing to pay that in order to avoid having to deal with Eircom and their up to 7Mb/24Mb (read ~1Mb)
6. Conclusion
I’d recommend them to all of my friend and family. They thoroughly deserve their high ratings. Kudos to Nova Networks – keep up the great service.

Christian’s previous post prompted me to leave my own review. I’m on the 8M package and my daily limit is 4GB. I have never ever gone over it. How someone can use 8GB in just 33 mins is beyond me. My business iPhone has a 2 GB data allowance-PER MONTH!!! 8GB is a huge amount of data. OK, I don’t watch Netflix or download movies, but, I do have 2 kids both with iPads, Xbox live, 2 x iPhones and my own PC. Often all appliances are in use together.
This is the main reason why I switched to Nova having tried it at a friend’s house on numerous occasions. I’m glad I switched and not only now do I have proper broadband, I have 2 satisfied kids and no more moaning. That’s worth the tenner a month alone!!!lol

With the 30Mbit/s package, a download cap applies after 8GB of traffic, which means that after 33 minutes they throttle the line speed down to dial up speed. They call that “Quality of Service”… even on the day after it is not sure whether the line would be reverted to full speed as their routers often fail to work as expected. They used to be just fine, but now they suck badly.

I signed up with Nova, and they initially said it would take 2 weeks before someone would come, but then turned around and a serviceman there in two days. The serviceman came only five minutes late for the service, which to me is not an issue at all, and then quietly did the servicing with politeness and cleanliness, and even replaced furniture back which he needed to get up high. Really courtious and pleasant. Now, he accidently left a cord unplugged back in, so that when I went to watch cable television that night, I had no cable. I texted to him at night to know what happened, and he called me back straightaway to sort it out (and fix it he did). Mistakes happen, but how they fix them is what distinguishes a company – these guys are great. Very happy with the service.

yes nova are good but just as AG posted below there caps are pretty poor, i pay €36.99 per month for a 4mb connection, for this price they give you 60GB per month data which isnt to bad but as soon as you hit the 2GB daily rate they will cut your speed down to a crawling pace until midnight, a bit of a joke really because some days you will use more data than others,

well this day and age it isnt hard to use up 2GB of data per day and if you do with nova your speeds will drop back to a dial up speed till midnight

i hope they can sort this out in the future if not maybe will have to look at sky broadband as they give out unlimited usage and not this fair usage crap.

We’ve been using Nova at home for over a year and I am only cancelling as we are moving abroad.
I work in I.T. and I have dealt with many of the other service providers over the years, both at home and for business and I would rate Nova as probably the best ISP I have used for 4 main reasons:
1. Value for money
2. They deliver the speed you are paying for
3. Reliability
4. You are dealing with people, not a call centre. (only ever called twice, once to setup the service and the second time to cancel it)
5. Technical alerts – excellent use of social media to alert to any outages and estimated repair times. (We were only affected by one outage in over 12 months and that was only for a few hours – can’t fault this as I previously had constant connectivity issues with one of the main service providers).

Originally we signed up for a 2Mb connection and thought we would need to upgrade it after a few months but never did, as the speed was consistent and covered what we needed (browsing, email, skype, you tube etc).

Highly recommended !

I joined Nova networks in Nov 2011 so I have had a good stretch, I had one issue and that was resolved quite quickly, you can guarantee you won’t get the usual “ah shure its a virus” spiel with these guys. I was hesitant to switch to wireless technology after seeing and hearing of horrible pings and dropped packets on a competitors setups. Nova’s setup doesn’t suffer from this at all, pings are fantastic matching and sometimes beating friends on dsl, its a dream for gaming. Likewise download speeds are pretty much as advertised, having an actual 8meg line is fantastic !

My only real caveat is with the download cap, which to be fair is quite decent across the month (120gb for 8meg line). With the advent of netflix and other catchup services its very easy to eat through this, about 2 hours of full hd could do it. I also use steam quite a lot, and many games are 8-20gb in size to download, I might only average a game a month, but it leads to a somewhat annoying situation where you have to spread the download over a few days.

Overall though, I’m delighted with Nova, and I have recommended them to a few friends already

We are an e-commerce company selling window blinds Nationwide from our Cork based factory in Togher, so our broadband speeds needed to be excellent and consistent. We also needed the security of excellent after-sales service. Our previous internet service provider simply could not improve on our (slow) speeds, so following a great deal of research, we went to Nova Networks. Following answers to our many questions and concerns, Nova came and installed. We are now consistently getting the download and upload speeds that we’re paying for, at a very reasonable price. No more freezing or delays, just quick broadband. Simple!

Just moved to them about a month ago from a provider who are near the bottom of this list. Very happy with the service. I had never every got anything even near the advertised speed with my old provider. With Nova, I am getting it almost all the time. The one issue I did have with speed, was resolved quickly with an immediate response from the staff. Can’t go wrong here!

Started an online training course at home this week. On Monday, I started to get intermittent disconnections from the live training feed. It got worse on tuesday and by the afternoon was very difficult to maintain the connection.
Phone up NovaNetworks and opened a support ticket. By the end of the day, i was told it would require a callout from an engineer and would 7:30am in the morning suit…

At 7:30am, sure enough I got a call from the engineer that he was outside. After about 40 minutes, he had resolved the issue and my connection is reliable again just in time for my training course. It was a matter of re-adjusting the antenna to another location within line of sight. I also got the option to upgrade the speed from 8MB to 12MB in that adjustment.

Back on the training all day without any further issues.
Many thanks to the two Daves that dealt with the issue this morning. That was greatly appreciated.
Couldn’t fault that level of support…A1

Like my neighbours I was getting my “Broadband” from the the state provider and like my neighbours I was getting .88 of my up to 8Mbps NGB… That’s not good value. The people who I was in contact with were helpful but I was too far from an exchange and on a poor line-they could do nothing further to help. I set about on a quest to get real Broadband. My search led me to a local company, Nova Networks. I read the reviews of their service….and thought how could a company be so good? I can tell you that from my experience they are that good & deserve those glowing reviews. Always helpful, professional & responsive. They have delivered a service – form first contact, to install and follow up service, that I am delighted recommend highly. An advertised 8Mb download and 1Mb upload delivers those figures regularly and dependably. Staff (Ann-Marie, Dave & Dave-to mention just a few) can justifiably be proud of their company. All my neighbours would readily join their service but because of line of sight issues, sadly they may not have that option. Nova Networks deliver a service that’s as competitively priced as any local supplier & they deliver. Highly recommended.

Signed up with Nova Networks in July and the service has been exceptional i must say. The service provider i had before was very slow- terrible coverage, and the customer support was appalling. Nova Networks is the exact opposite. From the moment it was installed I haven’t had to touch it and the fact that i don’t ever have to worry about my internet speaks volumes. Its always there- always working perfectly.
I run a business online and to be safe in the knowledge that it wont be affected by my broadband is very reassuring.
The customer support is top class and you always feel like they will deliver on what they promise.
Hassle free and top quality broadband.
Local company to boot.

Signed up to basic 27.99 package about 6 months ago and it suits my needs perfectly – I was paying 56.00 per month for the same service with another supplier previously and it was not as fast. Speed has never dropped, always constant. Well done Nova, a Cork business showing others how it should be done. Install perfect and also got referred to a company that does the Soarview/UK freeview setup!

Being Dutch, I’m used to a slightly better internet infrastructure than available in Ireland. My mom has a 50 Mbits connection and thats just the basic pack she had with her digital TV. However, I choose to live here, so cant complain. Since living in Jacob’s Island, I was forced to use Eircom or Vodaphone. Never tried Vodaphone, but had Eircom hooked up in the apartment. I had the 8 Mbit package, but the connections weren’t even up to 4( 2.6 at best). Apparently its got something to do with the wiring in the building, but built in 2006 or something..come on! So just knuckled under, and accepted the fact that my internet would never be as I would like it. Lately with Eircom i had massive outages, and my speeds dropped to 0.36 Mbit and 0.02 upload….

Then my friend told me of Nova. Decided to give them a buzz and see whats possible. My apartment was already set up for it, so it was just a matter of plugging in the router, Ann-Marie said! Wow… It cant be that easy?
It actually is. I decided to sign up and got to pick up my router the same day! Had some trouble finding the connection (silly me, not faulting Nova for that, i just looked for the wrong thing) but Ann-Marie had an engineer look at it the next day when i called them. Now I’m home, and there we are; 20mbit+ ! finally i got a decent connection! Nova network is about the best thing since sliced bread!

I gave them a 4 star for Value for money, but take that with a grain of salt. I’m used to 150Mbit for about 55 euro’s but thats in another country, so cant really fault Nova for that!

All in all, a perfect provider! everyone should sign up with them!

We were with Vodafone and had ongoing problems over years, particularly with speed and reliability. It became an impediment to doing business. In addition we had to go to the ombudsman to seek money back for providing services that we had not requested.

We switched to Nova Networks four months ago and have not had to think about it since, and are finally back to doing business unimpeded. The man who did the installation was very tolerant of our requests to make the installation tidy and as we wanted it.

cant get 20mb in Carrigaline very very expensive €76.99 cant under stand why ? installation is €99 i would not mind that so guys you need to get faster broadband cheaper if you are going to take on Eircom & Vodafone.

Note from ratemyisp owner – John, you can can’t leave a valid review and rating of an ISP that you admit you’re not a customer of. It messes with the ratings, and isn’t valid. And as you didn’t enter an email address I couldn’t let you know. I have removed the ratings from this comment, ( and had to temporarily removed the setting that makes it mandatory to leave a rating with a review.) I will have to delete this review again. A forum is on the way for such discussions that don’t quite qualify as valid customer reviews.

Not sure how long I’ve been with Nova but it’s probably a year or two. So far I am very happy with the quality of service and feel I’m getting value for money. I have very light broadband requirements but even so I have found network congestion to be annoying when I was with other broadband suppliers. With Nova Networks the service seems to be reliable and consistent.
Other pros I have found for using Nova Networks:
1. No land line required.
2. Invoice comes by email – I dislike traditional paper invoices just because these days there is no need.
3. I can pay by paypal – being able to pay electronically without having to use direct debit is a nice option.

Cons (I really struggled to come up with any)
1. When I went to pay the first bill there was a small added charge for using paypal. I wasn’t sure what it was at first so I rang Anne Marie. Paypal charge them for the service so this cost is passed onto the customer. I think it’s fair enough because their rates are very competitve and you don’t have to use Paypal if you don’t want to. It could have saved a phone call though if it said that somewhere on the invoice.
2. I think I had to restart the router once.

Excellent service, I just connected a month ago. After getting frustrated with the “usual” suppliers I went surfing the web, found Rate my ISP and saw the review here for Novanetworks. I emailed Novanetworks, Anne-Marie contacted me the next day and we arranged the 8MB package including phone, with free calls, for €50 a month. Later that week the engineer Ian came installed the components and I was online with an actual bandwidth that matched what was advertised! We use our Phone, IPad and laptop off the wireless and there is no drop in performance even when using streaming videos such as, YouTube. I can’t recommend these guys enough; professional, excellent and tidy installation, rapid response to any queries and straightforward billing which is easy to access on line.
In conclusion, a great service and for once you get what you pay for!

To all possible future Nova Network broadband customers.
Last month I ordered Nova Networks 8MB broadband service. I had it delivered within a week.
The installers phoned ahead, arrived on time with a clean organised van. ( always a good sign). The installers were very professional and willing to help configure the wi-fi switch too. Nothing was a problem to these guys.

Afterwards i ran the speed test a few times and we were getting faster upload speeds than advertised.
Over the years i have had various ISP’s deliver services mostly full of drama even before the first bill but finally it looks like the Nova boys are the ISP for us. I cant rate them highly enough and calling their support or accounts seems effort less.

I soon upgraded to 8mg broadband speed. Ann-Marie and Dave and another woman whose name slips me have been extremely helpful and sincere in helping me over the phone.
I am thinking about getting the phone package also for €45 standalone payment and €3 a month extra for 500 minutes. I am going to stay with nova networks and I have no hesitation in referring nova networks to my family and friends.

I’ve been with Nova for just under a month now, and they are miles ahead in terms of service and dependability than the last shower I was with (naming no names but they’re in 3rd last place for a reason). Very clear site and nice friendly sales staff meant that I was able to make a decision to move very quickly and was up and running within about 3 weeks. The connection has been top notch since then without any of the mysterious disconnects or throttles I used to suffer. I can once again depend on my broadband connection which is very important to me as I work from home a lot.

As for value for money, A-1. I need a 6th star. I’m paying a little more, but getting 3 times the reported speed I was getting on my old provider, which never even came close – Nova are giving me what I’m paying for.

Installation:
Fast, Tidy, Friendly. John Carroll carried out our installation and he was excellent to deal with. I had a minor issue following the installation and John who was working on another installation in East Cork at the time was back to us within 30 minutes to resolve it. Top Class.

Connection:
I subscribed to the 20Mbps / 1Mbps and I’m getting 19.7Mbps / 0.97Mbps – Nova Networks is the only ISP I’ve ever used where I’m getting what I’m paying for. Ping times (google.com) are very fast @ 14 to 24ms. The quality of the connection far exceeds that offered any of my previous providers which include DSL, Cable and 3G services.

Support:
Ann-Marie and Dave were available to answer any queries I had – and promptly.

I couldn’t rate these guys highly enough and it’s great to be able to support a local service. I would definitely recommend to a friend.

Also, I have not suffered any random disconnects which means I can play online games without worrying when my game might drop from the network. I live in the Glanmire area and this is really the only option when it comes to proper broadband speeds, as currently the max speed available through the Eircom network is only 5.5mb.

I live in Cobh in Co. Cork and working in the IT industry and with a keen personal interest in various Internet Media which regularly involves large sized downloads, my broadband connection has become an essential part of my everyday life. In recent years I’ve seen my 8Mb Vodafone connection drop from somewhat acceptable speeds of around 6Mb down to 1.5Mb during evenings and weekends, which is terrible quality of service for the money I was paying. I was waiting in vain for Next Gen broadband to arrive in the hope that lack of contention would at last see me getting close to the bandwidth I was paying for. However after experiencing my mother’s new 8Mb Next Gen Eircom broadband connection settle in at 4.5Mb in Bishopstown, my dreams were shattered. Sure, the bandwidth stays consistent, but she is paying for 8Mb and getting just over 50%. This whole ‘up to’ argument, really frustrates me. If I sold someone a bottle of water, and told him it had up to 500ml of water in it, and he purchased it and found it to have just over 250ml of water in it, do you think he’d be happy? Of course not, and I’d be out of business as quick as you like for being an complete con man and charlatan.

Anyway, I digress. I became driven to explore all ISP options available to me in Cobh and find one that would provide me with the bandwidth I paid for. I didn’t know whether that would be 2Mb, or 20Mb, whether it would be 20 euro a month or 100, but I had enough of being taken for a fool by my ISP. After an internet search, which I believe passed through this very website, I became aware of Nova Networks, based in Little Island and with coverage in Cobh offering ‘up to’ 7Mb to my residence. I contacted them with a flood of distinct queries, and Ann Marie responded quickly and as helpfully as she could to each one. She even answered the direct query of ‘How much of the ‘up to’ 7Mb am I realistically going to get?’ without giving the usual sales person non commital answer. Instead she informed that while she can never be certain, most customers get close to the full bandwidth, which in my case led me to believe I’d get over 6Mb. I was a little sceptical but decided it was worth the risk and had to be better than the 1.5Mb I was getting from Vodafone. It was the best decision I could have made. Once I was set up, I regularly speedtested as high as 6.7Mb! I didn’t believe a broadband product could deliver as close to the advertised bandwidth as that. I can no longer fathom how the major ISPs can get away with charging people for a bandwidth that the user isn’t getting anywhere near.
As a fantastic subtext to my story, weeks after I installed, Nova upgraded their network and my own product was upgraded from 7Mb to 8Mb at no extra cost, and a range of new higher bandwidth products, up to 20Mb are now available in many areas including my area of Cobh, at really fantastic value. In fact I chose to switch to a 12Mb line, and I’ve literally just been upgraded last night and while I can’t say with certainty what speed I’m getting yet, I’ve seen over 11Mb a few times so I’m optimistic Nova will continue to provide me with the bandwidth I’m paying for.

As nobody believes a completely gushing review these days, I feel it’s only fair to highlight the issues I have had since I switched. Immediately after install, my wifi connection was quite flaky. Sometimes it would be fine and sometimes it would drop and fail to even be visible. Sometimes a router restart would help, other times it would not. This continued for the first few days until Dave suggested I try switch the wifi channel on the router. I hadn’t realised it had been set to channel 1 which I wouldn’t have expected as a default setting, and changing to one of the mid range channels seemed to make a huge difference and for the next couple of weeks I didn’t notice any issue. However in the last week or so, my connection to the wifi has been strong but connection to the Internet has dropped affecting all devices on the network. This usually either sorts itself after a few mins or I can help speed the process up by restarting the router. In my experience, router restarts shouldn’t be required any more than twice a year, so twice a week isn’t ideal. That said, I’ve not given Nova a chance to help me resolve this issue at this time, as I don’t believe I’ve enough information yet to report the problem in detail, so this may yet be something that can be identified and fixed, but I felt it better to be honest with my experience thus far as that’s what this site is about. I’m not here to suck up to Nova Networks, but instead hope that I can help someone the way that this site helped me, and all I can say in that respect is I’m absolutely delighted with the product I’ve been sold, the customer service (and I’ve been quite particular in many of my queries and requests), and value for the money I’m paying. If you are in an area covered by Nova Networks and are considering a switch from your ISP, I couldn’t recommend them any more highly to you at this time.

… cue speed drops to 1Mb and unanswered support emails at the weekend! ;)

Have been with Nova now for almost 4 years I think. They are a fantastic company. they still have the feel of a small local company who are very focused on providing the best service they can give. Living in a rural location they are the only show in town for me having used 1 other company and 3g , both very poor experiences. the other company from a communication and Reliability point of view and 3g speeds were just insufficient to be usable. The main strength nova have are not only the fact you get the advertised speeds but ist the service and response to issues/queries. dave and Anne Marie deal with all queries and issues promptly and efficiently. I have recommended NOVA to many friends and would never hesitate to recommed them to anyone.

I have used Nova for nearly two years and in that time have had only one short outage (Nova warned me in advance!)
The installation engineer spent nearly two hours getting a signal and running a cable through a conduit from the outer wall to the house ( under a farmyard) and was patient throughout.
The direct debit notification arrives by email two weeks ahead of the payment date as a reminder.
Nova have been great people to deal with and I have recommended them to two neighbours who appear to be satisfied.
As far as I know they are the only provider in the Ballycotton area to provide such good service–long may they reign!!!!

We’ve been with Nova for a few years now – definitely over 3, possibly around the 4. Really impressed by their quality of service – we both have the option to work from home and we’re avid online gamers, so having a steady reliable service is paramount to us. Nova’s provided consistently good latency, and great uptime over the years – so, so, so much better than our experiences with Chorus or BT!

We’d had a bit of a hiccup with service few months back caused by the storms over winter – we were just unlucky and the equipment casing got damaged by high winds and then water got in. :( Once we’d reported it, Dave was quick to get everything sorted out for us. Service has been solid as a rock since then again.

I’ve had 10MB broadband from Nova Networks in Jacobs Island, Mahon since November. We originally had mobile broadband which was a disaster. Since getting it from Nova Networks, everything has been excellent. Service has been impeccable. There has been one outage, I contacted Dave McDonald he told me exactly what was the issue and that it would be resolved quickly. He was true to his word. The quality of the broadband matches their service. It has low ping times, 0% packet loss and its always around the top speed. I for one would recommend Nova Networks.

Dave here from Nova.

Just writing to thank everyone for their kind words. We work very hard to give a better service than the others and it’s nice to know that people appreciate it. There are a lot of shady operators out there, so my advice to people is to shop around and do your homework. As regards Liam’s comment about weather, we install our service with a “link margin” which means weather doesn’t affect it, unless there is something wrong. If it affects yours, Liam, please contact us as we may need to do a service call.

So thanks again, everyone!

Been with them a long time now – customer service is first rate, in the unlikely event of a problem you may even get the managing director coming out to check things out, as was my experience. Responses to emails etc. are generally at most 3-4 hours if emailed at a reasonable time, and the speed you are paying for is as advertised. They are certainly more expensive than Eircom and UPC in terms of a direct comparison, but I suppose its a case of you get what you pay for – they have the lowest contention ratio of the bunch as far as I know, you do not need a phone line so no line rental (they now actually provide phone service too which I barely use but then again it only costs me what I use), it will only go down once in a blue moon, and great customer service. Big thumbs up overall.

I then switched to Vodafone DSL as it was cheaper, what a disaster, it is the same copper wire but definately not the same service, there was dreadful packet loss. As part of my work involves monitoring a network I need a connection with 0% packet loss as I use a VPN. Dave from Nova assured me he could give me a connection with low ping times and 0% packet loss so I switched back to Nova. Boy was he right the service is spot on, quick and very low latency. I now use internet quite a lot for phone calls and recently got Apple TV, all run very well with the Nova conenction and when I need to I can work from home with a reliable connection.
