Q Sat

Q Sat launched in the middle of last year and the response has been overwhelming. Our broadband is provided through a satellite service using a totally new type of technology. I don’t want to get too technical here but the service comes from a KA band satellite called Hylas 1 that is unique to Q Sat and only available through ourselves. It is the first of this type of broadband satellite to be launched in Europe. No other supplier of satellite broadband in Ireland has access to this advanced satellite. We like to describe it as being the difference between FM and Medium Wave!”

We’re another Avanti customer dumped on Q-sat, same story as most others, went from a shared system with a third of 100gb limit, costing £18 a month, to a 10gb monthly limit for £36 with no warning, except for them switching off our service when we supposedly exceeded our limit, despite not being home for most of the month. Our contract with Avanti did not mention download limits, but only download speeds, which had two speeds, glacial or stopped!
We live in a very remote area with no mobile service, no terrestrial TV, so we have no choice, very tempted to tell them to stick it where the sun don’t shine, but what can we do? We are forced to do stuff online, especially with government agencies so we can’t live with it and can’t live without it?!
Q- sat tried to argue that our contract had always had a 10gb limit, but they provided us with a monthly breakdown for the whole of 2013 showing an average usage of between 40 and 100gb between 3 houses.
One other point, can an Irish company charge VAT and does it go to the UK government? if it was a US or French company they couldn’t charge VAT!

Unless or less, I have now been put on a business package, originally I was told that i would be guaranteed 15Mb download speed during working hours, then I was told they can only give ‘up to’ 10Mb, I have never got 10Mb. After 6pm and weekends they lower the speed so that I cannot even use Youtube or download a podcast? the staff do not know what their system is capable of and I have been given different information every time I speak to someone.

Do not sign up for this unless you are desperate, as I am.

was with this crowd for a month and cancelled my direct debit, they made all sorts of threats but they can blow me, they are the most amateur shower of wan-ers I ever came across, I am back with Vodafone now and great service and when I want to speak to customer service I get a professional who knows what they are talking about not some tit who will make halfed arsed excuses and then cut you off. keep clear.

I had no broadband for three months with Vodafone ! Does what its says on the tin, no good for online gaming.

Not sure about the other reviews but I found the staff great to deal with. I would recommend if you live in poorly serviced area for broadband.

Can any government dept. or regulatory board do anything with these ‘cowboys”. Subsidized by Irish taxpayer these “amateurs” take advantage of a very
a very compliant Irish customer whose pleas to have matters improved go unheeded. This crowd is for the “birds”. Not much television advertising for QSat
for quit a while. I wonder why ! Paying €35 euros a month for 0.20 to 0.08 and asking for a 3 year contract for this takes some *****.!

I was transferred across from Avanti (who were poor). I cannot believe how poor and expensive the service is. I pay for a 6meg download speed and get something like 3 on a good day and 0.5meg most of the time.

I’m off to join Tooway. Surely they cannot be any worse!!

We Avanti customers were dumped on QSat. What takes the biscuit for me is that I have been transferred with my £36 a month Avanti package which represents a service lower than QSat’s minimum offering at price very close to their maximum service level. The onus is on me to switch package to a better service in order to be able to pay less (if you read that and it doesn’t make sense, well it doesn’t make sense). That’s all well and good but I’m currently away from home. When I was last there I tried to make the switch but they took too long to contact me and now I’m not there to give them the information they say they need. So I’m stuck paying a fortune for nothing.
AND, as others have mentioned, this rolling bandwidth usage thing is total rubbish. What that effectively meant is that when we were at home, having not used broadband for a considerable time, we could not even use the full 6GB allowance we pay for monthly. Yes £36 a month for 6GB – sounds great doesn’t it?
We’ll be cancelling pretty sharpish.

I hate it! :(

Terrible.

Worst. ISP. Ever!

If I could go with anyone else I would, I would never ever ever ever ever ever recommend this service to anyone.
I thought avanti was bad enough, but these guys take the biscuit. They dont even want us as customers tbh, but Avanti sold us on.

Never mind – Sky Tv are aiming for 100% uk broadband coverage by 2014, either by satellite or other means and you can bet your bottom dollar it will be faster, cheaper and way better.

I have been with QSat for just 2 months, and its almost broken me – They implement a progressive and gradual throttling (which is against my original T&C’s) and prevented us from using the internet for the whole week of christmas, when we still had 2 gig of our allowance to spare.

HOW DARE THEY!

I cant put down my true feelings about this, as I’m pretty sure swear words are banned.

I couldn’t get line of site for OnWave due to trees but QSat are in a different location in the sky so I went with them. It’s satellite broadband so I wasn’t expecting miracles, I use it for email, facebook, web browsing and downloading (legal) music. The latency is around 600-700ms which means its no use for real time gaming. I don’t surf heavily and so don’t get anywhere near their limits. I’m satisfied with it and would recommend for people like myself in remote areas.

I agree with Bluebell. The installation service is totally unprofessional. The help desk are a joke – they will tell you anything and you will never get to speak to the same person twice. When I complained, the woman was rude, talked over me, practically shouted at me. Now I’m trying to get my money back and I am having no sucess at all with that. Don’t believe the hype. The service is poor and very expensive

Not a bad crowd. The installer arrived in an organised van and gave me notice in the morning of when he would be arriving. He walked me through the install for about 5-10 mins and got cracking then. Now the dish is not small it’s nearly a meter. But it’s at the back of my house. Also it says on the site that the ‘average install time’ is 2 hours. it will take longer i assure you that. But anyway im getting good enough speed but i can’t use it for gaming unfortunately. Other than that it’s grand.

Since signing up with Q Sat last Sept. for 4 MB I have never received more than 1.2 and then only once in a “blue moon”. My download speeds are usually between 0.2 and 0.8. Have protested and complained and last Dec. had a visit from their engineer. He could not improve things after an hours visit.
Still complaining to them and intend to stop my Direct Debit next month. You sign up for THREE years with this outfit so it should be fun. How they expect customers to pay 40 euros for 0.2 and then try to justify it by saying I had used all my “allowance”is beyond comprehension.. I live in Ovens, Co.Cork
just 8 miles from Cork City. Welcome to the third world!

Qsat i had these bunch of unprofessionals in my house and i got rid of it, their person who i can not name rang me on 3 different time was rude and when i tryed to ask her questions she just talked over me. i signed up last aug and didnt get the service until januray this year, had it for a month before service broke down, called customer care and got told their tech support was not working at the weekend, called back on the monday got told it could take a week to get someone out. i was totally suck out in achill island without any broadband what so ever and these cowboys care not at all, so i spoke with a person who was with them and said he had the same problems, so i told them to come and take it out and that i would not pay for a service that takes a long time to get fixed and the speed was bad as well. i am still waiting on them to returm my money that they took from my credit card so i think its time to go to the small claims court. i see these crowd no longer advertise on tv either i wonder why.
