Absolute garbage.

I just moved to Dublin and due to some miscommunication I was told that the existing connection owned by the previous tenants was sky’s, so I called sky and asked them to reactivate the existing connection under my name and they accepted it.

It wasn’t long until they informed me that they needed to “update” the installation and for that, we would need to schedule a visit from an engineer and the closest available date was within 2 weeks, I bore with that but that was clearly not what I wanted as I just wanted to reactivate the existing installation.

During those 2 weeks I found that the connection from the previous tenants was not sky, the whole thing about “reactivating” my line was a lie and they were making a new installation.

Past those two weeks the engineer arrived, performed the installation and left me with a modem, he didn’t test the connection before leaving, instead, he said “it will not work straight away, the smiley face should go white in two days”.

Two days passed and I called them again (in the 3rd day), the support told me that the deadline for my line’s activation was at midnight of that day, which was another lie since that was the 3rd day, not second. At the same time, they sent another engineer to check my connections.

He arrived in the same day but by the end of his visit, he said there was no problem with the installation and that I had to call sky.

I called sky and they asked me to check if the landline had a signal, the problem is I don’t have a landline and then the guy asked me to knock on my neighbors and borrow one for the test and I said “look, I’m not responsible for line diagnosis, I’m not doing your work for you, please send someone with the equipment to do this for me because I don’t have the necessary equipment”.

He stated that he could not send anyone until he knew if the line had a signal or not, to which I replied “if you have no means of solving this issue by yourself then I want to cancel this broadband”, he said he would transfer me to the responsible sector, but there was a 15 min waiting line, I decided to do it later.

I’m still calling them every now and then but the waiting line seems to be always there, and is always longer than 15 min.

I tried to reach their online chat support for a better way to cancel the line but they just say they can’t do anything but give me the phone support number, and push me to close the chat.

TL. DR: This is an unethical and incompetent company, and I wouldn’t do business with them again for any other product.

Me and my family got sky broadband 3 years ago, it was working fine for a month but since then, it kept on cutting off, I kept on reseting the hub (the little black button at the back of the hub) it never works, so I rang them up, they ask me to change the channel, which I did, then i did a speed test with the new channel and I was getting so bad speeds, I rang them up again, they asked me to do the same thing and still the same, so I just wiped my laptop clean, thinking it’s my laptop but it wasn’t (waste of time doing that to my laptop) Then i did a factory settings on my phone, thinking it was my phone, still the same (again, waste of time) I rang them up again but this time I got my dad to talk to them, then they asked my dad to do the same thing as they were asking me, (I say I knew more stuff then they ever did) this is going on since 3 years now and still having problems with it.
It is making me extremely angry and I am so sick of ringing them.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that, when we looked into sky broadband, it said, unlimited downloads with 25mbs but that’s not true at all,
I just did a speed test and on my laptop it’s giving me 10 ms of ping, 4.15mbs download speed and 0.17 upload speed and on my phone, it gave me 9 ms ping, 3.10 download speed and 0.15 upload speed (I have a Xperia z5 phone)
So it’s higher then many times over the past 3 years.

I would not recommend sky broadband to anyone,
Sky TV, yes but not their broadband, it is a nightmare.

We phoned up Sky on July 30th to switch from Vodafone, who had terrible support and slow speeds. We were given a switch-over date of August 12th but we were switched over on August 1st, the same day the Sky Hub turned up.

Before I hooked up the Hub to our line, I tested the Vodafone modem first for speeds. 5.27Mb down and 0.33Mb down. Then I plugged in and set up the Sky Hub. 7.85Mb down and 0.61Mb up. The funny thing is, Vodafone told us that 5Mb and 0.3Mb was the max our line could hold.

It slows down to 2Mb down and 0.1Mb up sometimes, but that’s only for 1-2 minutes. Can’t fault anything there.

We’ve been with Sky for a month now and we are not thinking of switching back. We now have our TV, phone and broadband with Sky so that it would be simpler to manage the bills.

The only con is that our bill went up to €125 from €62.50. We phoned Sky, told them and they explained that it was for 2 months. They gave us a €20 credit and so we only have to pay €105 for this bill. Good customer service too.

I ordered Sky 2 years ago on April 13th. Sky Fibre wasn’t available in Ireland at the time, so we had to go with their DSL package. Worst thing I ever did.

I was promised speeds of up to 24mbps. It never went past 2mbps.

The download speed was always at 1-1.4 and the upload speed was at a horrendous 0.4-0.6mbps. I sat though that nightmare for a year, until Sky Fibre rolled out. I got it, and everything was great for the first week. I had a constant download speed of 90mbps and an upload speed of 25mbps, and it only went downhill from there.

At the second week, my internet speeds decreased drastically. My new download speed was 50mbps and my new upload speed was 10mbps. I thought it was them just tampering with our line, so I shrugged it off

By the third week, my “Sky Fibre” was basically a modern dial-up. My download speed now were 2-4mbps and my upload speed was now 0.6mbps.

The customer service was nice, but they were /super/ unhelpful. Their advice to fix this? Restart the modem. When I did restart the hub, it took about an hour to reach usable speeds. Not enjoyable speeds, usable speeds. I couldn’t take it anymore, so I payed the early leaving fee and went to Eircom. Trust me, they’re 1,000% better than Sky

Even though Sky has the best TV around, try avoid its broadband and get UPC or Eircom instead.

I left eircom for sky in the hope that i would have more stable speeds at night but this never happened they lowered the speed of my line to 2mb/s, and i never go above 1.2mb/s its shocking really, they blamed it on my neighbors and that we are on a shared line…..BUT my neighbors moved out 2 weeks ago and if anything the service has gotten worse, i can barely watch a youtube video in 360p during the day and forget about watching anything at night, I phoned up eircom yesterday and i am switching back to them.
I rated the customer service 4 stars because anytime i rang they were always helpful and very nice to deal with. but on twitter there tech team is appalling any time you have any problems they give you the same sh*t about trying these troubleshooting tips when they never work.
All and all id say they were a worse experience then Vodafone when i had them years ago

One week with Sky Broadband and what a disappointment. They advertise “we will not slow down your connection”, are such false advertising and lies. Between 6-7pm to 12-1am forget about any online streaming like YouTube or online gaming. Even regular web pages take forever to load. Ping 600-900ms, Down speed mostly below 1Mbps. Customer service unavailable over phone (apparently due to some sort of upgrade). Whole family can’t use the Internet in evening, when it is needed most. Son can’t play online and daughter can’t use it for her needs. Really unhappy with them and their service. Will be cancelling my Direct Debit after this weekend.

Been with sky broadband for about 3 months now and have not encountered any problems. Nice fast speed (6mb) which is reliable and unlimited usage for 40 euro. Big step up from from my old three mobile broadband. Very happy at the moment with this service.
