Its a pity u cant leave less than 1 star….absolutely shocking. Never in my life have I dealt with a company as bad. Rude rude rude. I went to their office in Drinagh to collect my router and I was embarrassed for them at the state of the place. Consistently bad service. I go whole weekends with no broadband, leave them voicemails (as they dont bother workin sat/sun) and they dont even have the courtesy to call back. Its an absolute embarassment. They should just close the doors. As I didnt have internet the weekend just gone, I ended up talkin to “engineers” Jessica and Colm who were friendly but pretty useless…..then i got a call from the almighty Gareth! The owner….I asked am i going to have to top up my o2 dongle again this weekend and he replies….”what do u want me say to that like”…i have it recorded if anyone would luike to hear….they are pathetic…avoid at all costs

no stars for service and value was with them for 4 years..Eventually left thank god when I left them they arrived without warning no one was home so they just let themselves around the back took our new providers and their own dish and left a note telling us they wanted their powerpack back or they would DD €180 from our account when I explained the laws on trepassing to them they arrived a week later with our dish no apologies though were told s*** happens thankful our new providers were very understanding and arrived the next morning after the dish was taken and provided a new dish and reconfigured their settings at no extra charge , why we stayed so long I don’t know service was slow and normally stopped over the weekend and then have to wait until monday to ring and normally told someone would ring back they rarely did and would have to ring again again to get problem solved would recommend people to stay away as they only want your money. also rang us and told us not to download films

I was with skytel for 3 years. I am using Voip as my telephone and I had problems with the quality of line in that time.. Since they “upgraded” the system I couldn’t use my telephone at all. The up- and download speed kept moving up and down and the jitter and pings were terrible. I complained about it three times and in the end was told hey couldn’t do anything about it. I changed to cansore Broadband and I can’t believe I stayed so long with skytel. Before you go with skytel or stay with them check out other companies.
My internet is way faster now with cansore and my voip is just working wonderfully. I can use my phone again. Never with skytel!!!! Be warned.

I have been with them for about 6 months under the Rocket/racket broadband alias….
When I get a ping its ok to be fair, but unfortunately getting a ping is the problem. Apparantly they are located in an area of Wexford known as “destination host unreachable” I can see the transmitter from my window so its not to far away.
I tried to speak with the lovely girl on the phone to resolve my connectivity issues. I might point out I am a 15 yrs experienced network professional myself having worked mainly in the city of London for major financial market data companies. The young lady was very rude and then slammed the phone down on me when I tried to tell her that the main issue was no signal light on the receiver, and really need an engineer on sight to check it out. She said they dont just send an engineer out when you have problems, the call got heated and she slammed the phone down on me. I called back later and asked to speak with her manager. I was told that he was not available and that she was the only person in the office. I said I wished only to speak with her manager as she had been rude and previously slammed the phone down on me, she then replied “it wasnt her it must have been the other girl [name removed*] hard to believe as she had just told me she was the only one in the office. I requested a manager call back and I am still waiting connectivity still in yoyo status and looking for another ISP.
Carnsore Broadband look favourable you might want to look there before you even consider using this bunch of cowboys. I am nothing to do with iether company….
I had to click one star as there are no icons with dog poo on….

I’ve more history with Skytel than can fit in this comment box, much of it recounted by others on this site. However, I’m still with them because last year, for me, their service became faster and more reliable than I’d ever seen before. Could be something to do with a Coca-Cola comms contract. God forbid they loose it.

I have an alternative (3 Ireland, rural broadband), it can’t match Skytel’s speeds or latency at my location yet. Our local exchange is DSL enabled, but Eircom has no plans to upgrade what is effectively a ‘party-line’ from the exchange to my location. I had an Eircom engineer around and he was shooting the breeze with me on how he might be able to do the upgrade. So I said, no point if you can’t match or better what I’m getting. Ran a SpeedTest for him there & then, averaging 6MB. He just shook his head – not a chance he said.

I couldn’t be arsed giving Skytel a rating – just too difficult. All I can say is keep the current service running – it works for me at the moment.

I have had the misfortune of been with skytel wexford for 3 years in that time i have never had what i have been paying for. They are not worth the hassle of joining up. There should be a regulator to stop the con artists like skytel wexford operating. Now my package is offering 17mb down 1.5 up and my speed test just came up as just under 3MB down and .33MB up. Changing provider this week yippee. Oh and there customer service is appalling.

Appalling service. Have had no telephone now for 3 day’s will move from them asap, avoid at all costs, loged fault and then told it wasn’t loged but I was talking to the same person who logged it in the first place. Hate being taken for a fool.

Review by Rod harris, December 16, 2011

I am an expert in networking and Esp in wireless connectivity I work all over the world in this field. I told Skytel of a problem a relative was having and told them exactly how to resolve it. They didn’t seem to take it seriously at all and this problem got worse and cost my relative a lot of time, trouble, and nearly a lot of money. Eventually they cancelled with Skytel and went back to Eircom. really not impressed.

NO STARS from me – crap, so crap its unbelievable.

Missold me a package as I wanted it for gaming, them when XBox live wouldn’t work, they said the SKYTEL SERVICE DOES NOT SUPPORT GAMING!!!!!

Do not waste your time and money with these scam artists! I was with skytel for about 2 years until I couldn’t take it anymore and changed to a different local provider (Carnsore Broadband). With skytel I was paying €55 a month for 6mb. Sorry, I should say *UP TO* 6mb! With the new provider I’m paying about half the money for more than twice the speed. If skytel don’t keep up they will surely be out of business in no time.

It’s a disgrace that they get away with offering speeds *up to* 6mb, for example, and only delivering half that speed 90% of the time.
They say they have no download limit but if you download more than about 50gb they cut your speed down to below 2mb for the rest of the month. Tools.

For a long time skytel were the only option for people in rural wexford but with the competition out there today, such as Carnsore Broadband etc, it’s ridiculous that they still operate this way.

Review by Kelvin Norseman, August 15, 2011

Shite service.
I pay for 3 mb. I get .5 mb.
Sometimes it’s off for hours.
It’s my problem, according to them.
In the absence of an alternative I’m screwed.
But come the day, I will leave them. They after all told me to “take it or leave it”.

They are a load of ******* shite.
By the way, they seem to have an way to detect torrenting, if you try it they shut you off. Now someone should tell them that not all torrented files are illegal. Not only is their service shite but they are trying to be your Nanny.

A real disappointment.

Celebration time! I am finally shut of Skytel after three years. Crap from beginning to end. Their final piece of customer “service” was to bill me for three months when the service wasn’t working at all, and put me through the hassle of having to complain to ComReg before they were forced to relent. I’m back on Digiweb satellite, which I should never have left. Never again! (Well, certainly never again with Skytel). AWFUL!

I too have had problems with Skytel, Their office is a joke- if you had ever stepped into it- bomb! It shows what kind of an outfit it really is. [Name Deleted]* never returns my calls and tries to fob me off -don’t think she knows what she is talking about to be honest! The service itself wasn’t too bad in fairness but they need to look at their customer service! there was one helpful girl in there (don’t know what she is called) The boss can never be found however. In this day and age they need to focus on their customers which is not happening, still waiting on an answer from them as to why I can’t get voip service! think I will be waiting

I’ve posted here before, still no good reviews I see.

The only good reviews here smell suspiciously of Skytel employees.
3 people gave it good reviews out of 18.
Jesus, 2 of those “good” reviews were from the same person.
(Good job trying to increase the average rating, you sneaky *******).

Skytel wexford. Been with them since july 2010, not to bad in fairness. I pay for a 4mb connection. I always have between 3.20 and 3.60 mbps on speedtest.net. Its fairly reliable apart from setting up a router with their static ip. They’re not too bad since its the only available solution in my area. Overall 3/5

Review by peter, December 13, 2010

Have been with Skytel for 2.5 years. Very bad problems literally from day one — refused to pay initially but was told to take it or leave it. They have upped their speeds twice since I joined up. First time I only noticed their new ads when I checked their web page while looking for support and asked why I wasn’t on new speed. Just coincidentally they were just “in the process” of updating existing customers. This time round I haven’t bothered to ask for the new speed just to see what happens. Answer: nothing, months after new speeds advertised. In fairness, their reliability has improved since first half of 2010. Before that it was constant lost packets, long and frequent outages, horrible performance, and horrible support (they do TRY to help, but fail). Now it is much more consistent, with less frequent slowdowns. However, jitter as measured by pingtest.net is still crap, so totally unusable for VoIP. (Amazingly, they offer a phone package — don’t know how that’s supposed to work). Have limited choice so I am stuck with them, but can’t live without also having Vodafone 3G as a backup (see my review of them too). Vodafone performance has improved considerably, to the extent that I will probably downgrade the Skytel package and use them as the backup. Summary: it works (some/most of the time), but don’t expect to do anything too bleeding edge.

Got to agree with many others. Been stuck with this crap service for a few years now, as choice is so limited in this area. But last few days was final straw. The usual as other people have said, whenever you phone up and have no connection for days or a really bad connection, you get told it all looks fine at their end. Been told many times and have gone into their office and stood watching the so called ping reports on Jessica’s monitor back to my home PC, with the ping timeouts flying up the screen and [name removed]* trying to say this is the first time she seen it of course after been monitoring these for days, and just when I happened to be in there of course.

Not to mention they never seem to ever answer an email.

I’m switching to Digiweb!!

“Skytel Review by Martin Crosbie” -Yeah, no, they don’t return your emails.
It took them over a month to figure out what was wrong with my connection (random drops, no conection for 30 minutes at a time).
And everytime I called they said the usual “everything looks fine on our end” (problem was on their end and it took them that long to realise it) The only nice one there is that girl called [Name removed]* that answers calls.

The worst I have ever seen, should not be in business. As for the boss, he needs a lesson in customer service (keeps telling me to go somewhere else if I am not happy)
Is there not a regulator for these Mickey mouse outfits.” -I completely agree with you.
whoever answers emails at sales@skytel.ie is a complete tool, and rude as hell too.

And don’t even get me started on the prices!
Subscription
€44.95
Connection €49
Download 3.5Mbps
Upload 1.5Mbps
Contention 18:1 -WTF, you don’t even get those speeds, I usually get half that, even late at night/early in the morning when there’s less people sharing the connection in my area.

Their top of the range “business broadband” package just amazes me:
Enterprise
Subscription
€175
Connection Free
Download 7Mbps
Upload 4Mbps
Contention 8:1 -€175 a month for 7mb broadband? Sweet Jesus…

I would never ever recommend Skytel to anyone, but since Wexford seems to be stuck in the middle ages in terms of broadband, I guess I’m stuck for the time being…

I’m glad to see there’s other ****** off customers voicing their opinions.

Review by Jack, June 11, 2010

Not going to even rate Skytel. I hope they go bust they deserve to. This don’t know how to treat their customers with respect etc. Pay to join and hey your on your own with no service. The should be a department or a consumers report on all these so called server providers in Ireland to have to set standards etc. None of all these so calledd hidden charge when people sign up. They have been ripping Irish consumers for to long.

I hope Primetime would do a programe on this and have a jounalist ring up and see what deals they get etc and then show then up with hidden charges etc and bad service they offering the Irish consumers for too long

Having had problems with constant signal drops, i contacted skytel by e-mail regarding these problems. I was originally using the rj45 connection on the computer and not the wireless router, constant problems!!! Since my correspondence with Skytel i have started using their wireless router, problems of signal drops are gone!!! I would recommend anyone that has a problem like this should firstly contact skytel by email(they have a lot of customers so dont expect call backs all the time) they WILL DEFINITELY return your email! Also a small point, some of the ratings below have complained that the staff of skytel are rude, this is definitely not true in my experience, plus the speed of their connections i find to be very good. The only problem i had with theirservice was the signal drops which now seem to be gone. The best advice i have for people needing to contact customer service is to e-mail, and if you are having problems with signal drops and AREN’T using a wireless router, try one! Its cured my problem. ps [name removed]* is the person to deal with in their office. Cheers! pps. my star rating above is after 3 days.. fingers crossed..

Appalling service from them. Everything said below is true. 24-hour service – doesn’t exist. If your service goes on friday evening, they don’t have anyone ‘until monday’ to fix it. Slow speeds that are well below ISDN (the pre-runner to Broadband). Their office NEVER returns calls. You get ‘ I’m looking at your connection now and there’s no problem’ only to be told a few minutes later that ‘yes there’s a problem in your area – don’t know when it’ll be fixed, but will call you back’ (Never calls back). Now they’re trying to sell ‘Rocket Broadband’ at ‘up to’ 10MB download. Joke of the year. Avoid Avoid Avoid like the plague.
