This is a horrible company and it caused me more stress than enough when I was just getting on my feet. I had just moved out of my parents and a guy showed up at my door talking about how “good” this service was. I don’t remember ever giving my details or even saying yes to their services but somehow I was being charged for virgin media phone calls and UTV phone calls at the SAME TIME. I got a bill for each and the same calls with each provider. I was charged for their broadband which I never ever connected or used. I never even took the WIFI out of the box. The bill run into hundreds for things I cannot even account for and left me with a bad credit score…. How can two different company charge a person twice for the same calls???? If they went through UTV how was I charged for the same ones by Virgin media and if they went through Virgin Media how come I was charged by UTV too?

I was with UTV for years, since the dial-up days. I got a good deal in the beginning but the modem was rubbish, zyxel not wireless and worked on only one computer. I bought my own modem/router and moved to wireless broadband via the phoneline. I installed and configured this myself. The price rose over the years from around 40euro to a whopping 79euro. I can’t say the service was bad except for the odd time but I would say slow speeds were an issue. I saw package deals that were cheaper than what I was paying. When I rang them up to cancel the service they offered me a deal to keep me. 30euro pm. It was too little too late. After I had paid (what I thought was) my last bill, they sent me out another bill for calls made during the notice month which is ok but they included an advance service fee for the following month. They included a fee of 2.50 for the paper bill! I had given them a months notice and I had a new provider already installed. If I didn’t pay I would get a bad credit rating. I paid just to be rid of them. Never again.

THIS IS NOT A REVIEW. IT IS A REPLY TO THE REVIEWERS WHO ARE HAVING SPEED ISSUES.

There have been some recent capacity issues on the Eircom network that have been affecting download speeds.

This issue has now been resolved and service should be dramatically better.

If any UTV Connect customers have any further issues please contact our dedicated local support team on 1890 926 111.

The biggest mistake I ever made was moving over to UTV Broadband. The Sale guy was the biggest Liar. The connection speeds depend on the time of day, before 12pm it’s fast but after that until midnight don’t get your hopes up, restrictions apply between these times. The customer service is the worst i have ever come across. They say they will do this and that, but really they do nothing. My advice is to stay away from these guys. You will regret it otherwise.

I was a UTV customer for 4 years, and all was well until I moved to a new address in August. I called well in advance of the move and established the correct procedure for moving, which I followed to the letter.

First problem was the new line was not connected when promised. I called every other day (costing a fortune because i had to call from my mobile and was kept on hold for up to 30 minutes) and each time I got through to an “overflow call centre” and was promised a call back with information, which never came.

Eventually the line was activated, and so I called to ask about how long it would be before my broadband connection was working, and was told that my new line didn’t support broadband. This was odd, because I know the previous tenant at this address had broadband from Eircom. I asked them to look into it.

I eventually received a call back from UTV telling me that they definitely couldn’t provide broadband, so I’d be put on a voice-only package. I told them to cancel it and send me the final bill.

I called Eircom as soon as I got off the phone from UTV and am currently using their broadband service on the same line at the same address.

At the end of September, the new tenants at the old address called me to ask if I’d be so kind as to cancel the line there so that they could put it their name. UTV hadn’t cancelled the old line when I moved out! It took another month and several phone calls until they finally cancelled the line at the end of October. Ridiculous.

THEN I received my final bill… To the old address. The bill was higher than expected due to an extra two months line rental and call package at the old address, so I composed a 4 page letter of complaint which laid out all of my issues over the last few months and requested a revised total. I am yet to receive a response to that letter.

At the beginning of November, over €300 was taken from my account by direct debit. I am now waiting for a refund which I was promised when I called to complain. I’m not holding my breath.

Small claims court here I come!

I am in the same position. Salesman called at door. I told him I use 50-60 gbs a month. He told me unlimited usage for 37.99 a month. first bill 88 euro. My limit was 20gb. What use is that for me. UTV are a joke. Worst provider ever. Also promised 24mb/s sometimes getting 0.1 mb/s. Forget going online between 6pm and 9pm. Dial up is faster.

UTV Broadband is a joke. Guy knocked at door promised me 24mb/s uncongested PLUS calls for 37.50 euro a month. I got nothing near that. I am online after work around 18.30, The avg speed I was getting was 0.9 mb/s. I was getting them speeds 7 years ago. Their call center is a joke. 8 staff I was told. They always are experiencing high call volumes. The average time is 15 mins with me in getting through. They dont reply to emails. They never ring back as well. After 3 months I have moved to eircom.

The worst ISP ever. I switched from Eircom unfortunately and the problem began.
Service Desk is a joke. You wait 25 minutes to get someone who collect data and then advises that engineer will contact you soon. Of course it never happens… I called already several times. My speed is from 3MBs till 0,8MBs where it supposed to be 5Mbs

Two weeks ago they told me that they have a major issue and resolution will take one week !!!
It works only when everybody is at work (very morning till 1 or 2 PM)

As someone advised, if they knock to your door, shut down immediately.

Worst service and customer relations I have ever had to deal with. When that lady comes on every couple of seconds on hold to say sorry for the short delay don;t believe it. It will be a long and costly delay because they charge you for those calls too. In 4 months with them I never once had wireless broadband. Eventually their technicion told me there was nothing else he could do and basically what else did I want from him. I wasn;t supposed to be on direct debit but they kept charging it anyway. I cancelled the direct debit and started paying through the bank and now they are harassing me for payment they have already received. they ignore e-mails. Customer service is rubbish. If possible I would give them no stars whatsoever, they don’t deserve even 1. I’d have to say the person above that gave them full marks for everything obviosuly works or owns the company. If they call to your door my advise is shut it immediately. I left them after 4 months and after much arguing they said I wouldn;t have to pay a cancellation charge. Didn;t give them much choice as I cancelled the direct debit. I’d advise everyone else to do the same. Worst company I ever had to deal with

They should be shut down. I was on NGB 24 mbit UNLIMITED package. Got 12.2 Mbit which is fine. I was throttled at 6pm everyday because I downloaded 40gb monthly. They class this as heavy usage. Never upload anything, don’t use torrents etc and still throttled. Their IT guys basically said thats why. I was months trying to get them to fix it, no joy, got onto COMREG, and after 20 days they said because I was switching supplier they won’t respond to my complaint.

6 months later I AM STILL BEING CHARGED!!!! Thieves the lot of them!

Like most of the reviews above, I have been with UTV for about 7 years with no problems, getting 2-3 Mbps from my 3 Mbps package. i upgraded in May to 24 Mbps and the speed and service are now terrible. Last night i measured 0.2 Mbps and so i have told them to shove it and have signed with Vodafone. They don’t even reply to my emails any more and you caqn never get hold of them on the phone. They told me “people are abusing our bandwidth but we have installed new equpimenmt and by the end of August you will see a huge improvement”. Sorry, this is now September and I am still getting dial-up type speeds. Goodbye UV, you suck.

A bit like “BOGUS GALON” there I got blatantly lied to recently by a rep.
Drogheda area, was told that on the 24 Mbps service that I should expect to get around 16Mbps in my area. No. When I found the link on their site it says my line is capable of 5Mbps only.
The speed seems to be similar to Vodafones but first impression is very poor.
And, of course, submitting a query on the website has generated no response.

Not a good way to keep a customer.

Appaling service from a previously good company. I have been with UTV since they entered the market and have upgraded my package several times from a dial-up at the start to 8MB/20GB at the moment. In the past 8 months the speed has fallen through the floor. SInce April speeds at peak times i..e evenings is rarely about 1.5 and more usually approx 0.8MB. Almost unusable these days.

I’ve been told via email that the problem has been solved with a network upgrade but it clearly hasn;t. There is no change this side. I have completed all the troubleshooting steps but nothing has changed. It’s not an issue my side since I am hardwired to router and get 5MB off peak (i.e. at 10am in the morning)
10 mins ago (after 40mins on hold) a clearly frustrated customer service rep said “We’ve tried fixing it by upgrading the network and prioitising non torrent and non-gaming traffic but it hasn’t worked. So it’s likely some people will just have to put up with it”. My speeds are here

Cancellation email being prepared now. Letter to comreg also in preparation. Surely 5 months of 1MB download speed is a breach of 8MB contract? Thoughts anyone?

Well for starters UTV tech support has only 8 people. Admin have 3 people. Also in relation to slow speeds on NGB, thats an issue with eircom lines. Its 1:1 contention at the exchange beyound that the rest is standard traffic. That is out off UTV’s control as there is a contract between them and Eircom which they have to abide by. If they want to change it cost a hell off alot off cash.

Also everyone who yaps about slow speeds (1) either doesnt understand how those tests work (2) keeps using speedtedt.net (3) 90% off slow speed issues that UTV get are to with the physical setup off the router/modem connect to the main socket in the house. Also customers off UTV Internet are too lazy to even check things themselves which means high call volumes for issues which are stupid that can be solved by the customer. UTV like every other ISP do not support gaming or anything off the like. So latency is to do with ping rates which they cant change or control. So stop complaining about speeds.

Also yes their T&C’S changed last year and customers where informed months before hand and given the opportunity to contact them about it. The only thing that changed in it was the price off the phone package and setup fee. Nothing else was changed or added. This was all reviewed by off-com and com-reg.

The long wait times are due too short staff. So there is no point in yapping to admin or support as its stressful and a difficult job to do and not easy when someone is venting and shouting down the phone.

Hope that answers everyones questions.

I have been a customer of utv broadband for the last 10 months. when i first received the 8mb broadband all was well 2-3 months in there was a sharp decline in the service espically during peak hours, for instance this evening at 8pm my speed is 0.8mbps. Other times it is as low as 0.5mbps making watching any type media impossible. Reading through other comments this seems to be a common occurance from this ISP. When i bought the package i was sold 8mb next generation BB (10-1 contention AS IF) the speed has never gone above 6mbps and the only time i get these speeds are between 2am – 3pm during weekdays. I am moving house next week and i will not be taking the service with me, they now want to charge me for canceling the service early. At the start of november utv changed its T&C of its contracts which intitles any of its customers to withdraw from contract (within 1 month of the notice) and when i mentioned the phone call i placed in november canceling the contract they have no record of it, how convenient.

The broadband issue in ireland is cronic, eircom line rental is a joke. we pay 2-3 times as much as any other european countries for utter crap service. this rubish cant carry on! shame on you Irish ISP!!!

Have had UTV for something like three years now. Started on their 3MB package with phone, and was upgraded to 7MB for free soon after. We moved to a bigger apartment last year, just two doors over, and our speed increased to 8MB, though we are still paying only for the 7MB – we consistently get a maximum download speed of 843KB. Occasionally we forget to put money into the bank account in time to pay UTV, and they have always been an absolute pleasure to deal with – never getting impatient over delayed payments or anything like that.

The few times we have had to contact their technical support, they have always been courteous and helpful, and I’m a little shocked at the other reviews. Just to point out, Eircom owns the landlines and UTV can do nothing but complain to them if something goes wrong, so lay your troubles on Eircom’s shoulders, not UTV’s. For the time we have been with them, we have not had a single complaint. We are very grateful that we chose UTV.

I have been a customer for a year, the service they provided was fine, but for last 4-5 months my download speed shrinks down to 0.8mbps(thats 80kilobytes per second) for promised 8mbps(it was never 8, 6 was probably max i ever got) which is 10 times less. After calling to them and telling them about this problem i was told that it’s all fine on their side and it’s all problems on my side… No help recieved within a month and connection is as unstable as it was. Jumps from 6mpbs down to 0.8mbs. :( It is really slow and high latency. Really bad for games!

I have been a UTV customer for a few years now. Until the last few months their serivce was acceptable. I am on their Next Generation Broadband package.
When I signed up the sales person sold this to me a 1:1 convention ratio package. I have seen learn that it is not the case. I have bene told by their tech support agent that I am actually sharing a 60 Mb line with at least 12 other customers.
My download speeds vary from 6 mb to 0.5 mb depending on the time of day.
I have contact tech support serval times and the answer I get is “well ericoms line are terrible” .. “there is nothign we can do it up to eircom” .. or “send us a screenshot of you speed test results and we will send them to eircom”.
This would be ok if I was an Eircom customer but I am paying UTV.
As soon as my contact expires I am leaving them.

We have been with UTV for a couple of years now, and they are reasonably fast, reasonably reliable and reaonsably priced. However, our experienced has soured in 2012 due to the parlous state of their technical support. As of 1st of January our email addresses which we use a smtp accounts to for sending mail from business have been disabled. I reported this issue on 2nd Jan 2012 via their website, after 7 days and two follow up inquiries they reponded to say they had fixed the issue. We contacted them again to say the issue wasn’t resolved and after another lengthy delay they said the issue was fixed, it wasn’t. We contacted them again and still haven’t had a reply. We have been 18 days without access to our email accounts and everytime we attempt to call their support line, it either tells us that the line is unable to answer or we are in a queue for so long we give up.

I’ve been with UTV on their ‘Clicksilver Unlimited’ package for a number of years. Things were good initially (hence my staying with them for so long), Connection speed was nice and fast with little noticeable latency even during peak hours. BUT, this only seems to be the case if you subscribe to their ‘Unlimited’ option AND are a fairly light user (<20GB per month).. So paying a lot for little use.

However, after becoming a much heavier user (Averaging around 300GB per month) I've noticed a serious decline in the level of service I receive from them. To be fair, yes 300GB is a LOT of bandwidth, but my usage is carefully managed so as not to fall foul of the dreaded 'Fair Usage Police'. My uploads/downloads from my server are scheduled to run from midnight to midday, and I have capped the speed at 500KB/s, so this should be well within acceptable levels.

My typical Download speed gone from a sustained 5MB/s before, to 0.5MB/s on a good day. Only for a few hours each night does it open up fully to 5MB/s again. Also, my upload speed has remained at around 300KB/s throughout, which in my opinion hints towards UTV throttling my downstream connection. I'm fairly savvy with computer networking, so their suggestion that the problem lies on my side is insulting and absurd. I can throw large files around my 1GB LAN as fast as they can be written to disk. Support will generally try to pass the buck wherever they can, so expect either BT, your home network or both to be the focus of their 'troubleshooting' spiel.

More on Customer Service: I agree with others here who have stated you can wait 20 minutes to speak to somebody, which is why I generally email them instead. When a phone call is unavoidable, your experience will vary depending on who picks up the phone. It's a VERY refreshing change to get speaking to a local person, to understand and be understood without the language barrier getting in the way. Not meaning to appear racist or 'un-pc', but there is nothing more irritating after having spent 20 minutes on hold than having to deal with someone who's first language isn't English, or indeed even a local dialect. More so if you were already angry to begin with haha.

I can’t give them any stars, utv internet have yet to connect me after over a month of subscription, believe it or not. After my brother got internet in (he lives next door) I decided to apply for broadband, which was previously unavailable in our area. I initially subscribed online, but it was only after a number of calls that I was told I was officially connected to the broadband line on thursday. Strangely, I only got a confirmation email of this dated 9:20 am on the following monday, however, when I eventually got my router, but still no broadband. They sent out a BT engineer…. who did nothing, and said he couldn’t do anything for me. Utv tech staff, especially one young lady had the presence of mind to check the type of broadband my brother had, It turned out he was on the “fibre” network, and an engineer would have to come out once again to my home. I received a date and time of 23 september between 1pm and 6 pm. As I was working, I made arrangements for my brother to stay at home so he could provide access to my home. I provided Utv internet this information, as well as my brother’s number. Later, I got a prompt voicemail message from utv internet confirming this arrangement, my brother received a similar message. While at work, at 1pm I checked with utv internet, and the appointment with the engineer still stood for that day… No engineer came, no messages were left, on my phone or my brother’s. I got home after 6 and rang the tech support, it took 35 minutes, yes, 35 minutes, to get an answer, the person informed me the appointment had been changed to the 29th with no cause given.
I’M NOT HAPPY, AND ON MONDAY MORNING THE ADMIN/ COMPLAINTS DEPARTMENT OF UTV INTERNET WILL HEAR MY WRATH, i WANT ANSWERS, AND I WANT THEM NOW

Buyer Beware! I was with UTV Internet for the past number of years – right back to the pre-broadband days – and always found them to provide a very good and price-competitive service. However when it came to closing my account earlier this year (due to my moving to a new house with no phone line), they were very unhelpful and ripped me off. Thus in a couple of weeks they managed to ruin a good customer relationship that had existed for well over a decade – and I had regularly recommended them to my friends and colleagues. Consequently I would never go back to them.

With UTV my max upload speed was 38kbps so for work I needed to upgrade urgently. I called and was promised an upgrade €54.99 monthly for a 12 Mb upload 1024kb download and that it could be installed the following day. There were cheaper options but I needed it urgently so I went with UTV. The following day I called to confirm it would be up and running that day and was told that it would be the following month before it was in place. Obviously I cancelled the contract as I needed it urgently so was told that it could be fastracked and would be up in 2 days, no more than 5. Ten days have now passed, my upload speed is 29kbps and I am jeopardising my relationship with my employers. I have called UTV yet again today and have been hung up on. The internet sevice has never been fast and at time excruciatingly slow. When their prices dropped their customers are not informed. Overall I have found the experience to be awful and would warn anybody against signing up with them

We have been with UTV broadband for 5 months and can honestly say I have nothing good to say about them. I have been with Eircom and Perlico and have never had the same problems with either of these companies. Broadband speed has halved since signing up with them (that is if it’s even working at all) and when trying to contact customer support it takes about anything up to half an hour to speak to someone. Phoned today looking to cancel and was informed of the 30 day notice I need to give (no other company had this policy) and of the one-year line rental still owed to them. Did anyone else manage to get out of this? Why am I paying them line rental when they depend on Eircom for it? After reading other comments about the 30 day notice I wasn’t informed it had to be in writing so must get on to that straight away! Pity I never thought of reading up about them first, never would have signed up in the first place.

I’ve been with UTV for several years, first on 3Mb then 7.6Mb.

I consistantly connected at 7616kbps with an upstream speed of 658kbps. I recently asked to be put on their NGB (next generation broadband) service of “up to 8Mb” however, although they claim to have switched my line, my speed is now 5120kbps and cannot be increased according to them. They don’t even offer a 5Mb option but that’s all I have now and the line cannot be switched back as once NGB is enabled, the line is stuck in that mode forever.

My upstream speed is now a max of 384kbps which I find totally unacceptable. UTV now claim that my line was never capable of more than 5Mb and that’s all I’ve ever achieved AND Eircom have provided them with proof of this!!!

I have log files from my router proving I used to be connected at 7.6Mb but they refuse to accept them.

They’ve basically called me a liar…

I’m disgusted with them right now.

I switched over to UTV 7mb service with phone last month. Phone is ok but the broadband is terrible. Everytime I call utv they give me another reason why its rubbish all of which do not include them. The service keeps dropping and connection to pages is intermittent. They have refused to let me out of the contract but will let me out of broadband service for €60. No appoligies no help no hair or finger nails left!

Utv internet really really bad. Awful customer service, they don’t try and help when you have a problem, I have been trying to disconnect with them for a while now and they keep telling me different things. Now I am being told about a 30 day cancellation period as well as a £60.00 cancellation fee. I would strongly not recommend UTV internet.

I am surprised at so many negative comments – maybe UTV is worse in the North. Here in Dublin I have been very happy and been with UTV for a number of years. It still compares well with the rest pricewise and ok, they dont automatically reduce your monthly fee if new customer prices drop but they aren’t alone there.

Review by Joe, October 23, 2009

I just want to add that yes, you can notify them that they have lowered their prices and you, long time loyal customer are paying more. They will lower them then for you too, but you are then put on a new contract each time, with a new contract period all over again.

We were with UTV for several years too. Found out that their prices had gone down for new customers while their long time customers, like us, were paying more. Not the way to keep your customers loyal. AND BEWARE they also charge you a fee to cancel your service
AND had their telephone service for 4-5 years and just switched that too.
BEWARE they require cancellation 30 days IN WRITING.
Make sure you send it Reg Post too or they will claim they did not get it! Doesn’t matter if you switch to another provider who notifies them… they claim that doesn’t count as they didn’t get anything in writing from you. I am off to make my complaint to Com Reg.

I didn’t want to give UTV any stars, but when you leave the stars unmarked this site state that it was “Not Rated”.

I originally said
“I have to agree with

sydney, July 28, 2009
and Gary Shanks, August 20, 2009 .

UTV are so bad that it is beyond a joke. I varies between really bad and ****-POOR. Spending more of its time at the ****-POOR end of the scale.
I like A Thabeth comment a but two cans and wet string.”

Horribly service for a number of reasons like High ping, slow speed, no internet for days at a time, terrible cusomer service by saying that it was my fault i was getting high ping and there was nothing they could do. Guess what when i moved to sky i get a ping of around 20ms but with utv it would’nt be uncommon to get a ping of around 200-300ms to my local exchange

It’s decent usually, overall giving them a 3, as they have no out of hours support. If you lose your connection on Saturday evening, tough luck. You have no support till Monday Morning. In todays day and age this is ridiculous.

When you do get support it’s usually good, but again, as it’s only available Monday to Saturday, and no overnight cover.. well, their competitors beat them hands down on that.

I have the 3mb connection, Fixed IP and unlimited bandwidth, only paying €55 ish a month, so while not what you’d call cheap, it’s pretty comparable. I am considering moving to BT as they offer 7.6mb for a similar price, does have a cap, but I’d never reach the 30gb they’ve set as a home user.

Have been using UTV Broadband’s ClickSilver package for the last 5 years and have to say that it has been an excellent and reliable service until recent months when it has deteriorated slightly.

The deterioration are in the area of connection speed, and some nights it is impossible to connect to from 11pm till 6am. This is throughly disappointing and no explanation is forthcoming as to why this occurs.

COST SAVING TIP: Keep your eye on price drops on your package, as UTV do not automatically apply these. I was paying 30 Euro per month when the actual package was for sale at 16 Euro a month. When I called their Customer Service they were great, and the guy put me onto the next 16 Euro per month rate. Just keep aware of the rates.

UTV are truely rubbish.

I have better connections with two cans and a wet piece of string.

The UTV Broadband connection also varies with the weather. When it rains the connection becomes slower and slower. Yes it nearly always rains in Northern Ireland.

The UTV connection I use is a work.
My home ISP is BeThere.
BeThere provide four times the speed downstream and over twice the speed upstream.

My work and home are about the same distance from the exchange.

Had UTV call package for over 12 months.
Fantastic Service. My phone calls are no more than 40 euro per month and thats including line rental!

Broadband was just switched on im my local area, west of Ireland and I contacted UTV to sign me up.
Went on the 7mps package.

I was signed up within 3 days, and I am now online!!!!!

Speeds averaging at 3.6mps.

Delighted with them and their service.

No issues, except once they never billed me for 3 months! But then sent in a letter and took all the charges on the 4th month.

If you make a lot of telephone calls to the UK and Ireland, UTV ar ethe only choice for you.

I was on their 2Mbps package from 2005 to early 2008 and, bar a few sporadic outages, things were fine. In early 2008 eircom did their line upgrades so 2Mbps became 3Mbps. Around that time things started going downhill. Regular sporadic DSL disconnects/reconnects and effective outages. Tried several different modem/routers and checked all internal wiring and filters but it was obviously a like problem. UTV could not pinpoint the problem. eircom said the line was OK. In late 2008 UTV told me that I could get 4Mbps on their “up to 7.6Mbps” package so I thought – “why not” since it was only marginally more expensive and I thought that it might improve reliability. UTV charged me from November for this but never actually enabled it! They eventually did switch me to 4Mbps in mid December but that was even worse. My like stats were c. 50dB attenuation, as low as 6dB SNR margin and the line length is c. 5kM. Based on these stats it seems to me that I should never have been sold 3Mbps never mind “up to 7.6Mbps” in the first place. UTV keep blaming eircom but my contract is with UTV so it’s THEIR problem and responsibility to sort out. They are still messing around with it but still no joy. They just switched me down to 2Mbps and low interleaving to see if that helped but all it meant was that I had NO broadband service for the whole weekend. If I had any realistic option I would switch but cable is not available and I can’t install a roof antenna where I live. I am really cheesed off with UTV at this stage. :-(

I was a customer for three years with UTV. I found the service pretty good but wished to upgrade to a faster line. I was using their premium clicksilver plus service for which I was paying €39.99 a month for a 3meg line.
When I went to cancel the service I was told that I would have to return the modem and pay a cancellation fee of €23.99. I was told that I would also have to pay for an additional 30 days notice regardless of how long it took to do the switch.
This despite the fact that when I signed up, I paid for the modem, there was no cancellation fee after 12 months and the switch took about 5 days.

I then found out that the price of clicksilver plus had come down to €23.99 ten months previous but I was still paying €39.99! The new rate is apparently only available to new customers.

I contacted their complaints department and have heard nothing back so I would just say, let the buyer beware!
